129: The Judges Verdict

Ch. 129 / 193 Mar 05, 2025

"I have heard from both sides, and this is my verdict," the judge said.

"With all the evidence presented and witness interviewed. I hereby find Angela Anderson guilty of the charges levelled against her. For taking the life of two people, I hereby sentenced Angela Anderson to life in prison with no possible parole," the judge said and slammed his hammer on the table.

"No!" Zora and Mrs Anderson screamed.

Angela lowered her head as tears streamed down her face.

"Your honour, she is pregnant," Angela's lawyer raised.

"That is no excuse. Once the child is born, the family of Angela Anderson can have the baby," the judge said.

"Mrs Anderson, calm down. We have 8 months to do something about this," James assured.

"What are you going to do? You presented all the evidence and they still sentenced her. What else are you going to do that you have not done already?" Mrs Anderson cried.

Zora stood there watching Angela being taken away. Tears flowed down her face as she kept her gaze fixated on Angela. She pulled out her phone and dialled Bryce's number.

"Hello," came Bryce's voice.

"Angela is going through this all because of you. She is pregnant with your child and she is going to jail for a crime she didn't commit. I hope you are happy with yourself. I had always thought you were a good man but you are as evil as your father," Zora said angrily amidst her tears.

"Who is this?" Bryce questioned.

"Is that what matters to you now?" Zora questioned. " You are heartless. I just told you, your wife is going to jail for a crime she didn't commit. She is carrying your child and you couldn't care less. You are concerned about who I am?" Zora asked and ended the call very angry.

"Mummy let's go home. I believe in a God of justice. Angela would not die. A miracle would happen," Zora tried to console Mrs Anderson.

"So we are supposed to go sit down and wait for a miracle?" Mrs Anderson said as they exited the courtroom.

James went back to the lawyer who had defended Angela.

"Is there anything we can do? That girl is innocent," James asked.

"I know," the lawyer said picking up his things. "The only way we can get her out is to find undeniable evidence that shows that the chief is behind the crime," he said.

"Wait, the chief killed the two Moore members?" James asked, his voice very low, almost a whisper.

"Why else would he be covering things up?" the lawyer said and James gave his statement a thought.

"I had my suspicion on Bryce's new girlfriend," James said.

"Bryce has a new girlfriend?" The lawyer asked and James nodded. "Why didn't you say something?" he asked as they walked out of the courtroom.

"I thought what we have could defend Angela," James replied.

"Come with me to my office. Let's discuss this further. I promised Mr Anderson I would do everything within my power to free Angela. That is what I will do," the lawyer said and left with James.

Back at Bryce's home, his car had just driven into the compound when Zora's call came through. After Zora hung up on him, he remembered today was Angela's trial at court's day. His mind recalled Zora's statement. Angela has been sentenced to prison. Thinking about it, his heart began to race against his chest.

"Why do I feel this way?" Bryce thought. "If the court found her guilty, it only means she is guilty. So why do I feel this way," he thought.

"Sir, what time do you want us to head for the Davis family home?" one of the guards from the Davis family asked.

"In an hour, Fred," Bryce replied and started walking towards the main door.

"Welcome, sir," Josephine greeted as soon as Bryce walked in.

"Hmm," Bryce replied and was heading towards the staircase.

Josephine smiled when Bryce didn't come home with Susan but she wanted to be sure the marriage between Bryce and Susan never happened.

"Sir, shall I prepare a room for Ms Susan, your wife?" Josephine asked.

"Get this clear, Josephine. Susan is not my wife," Bryce replied. "Guards, take note, Ms Susan is not allowed in this compound. Communicate that to everyone. Devon Moore included," he added and continued climbing the staircase.

"Wait!" Josephine thought. "What did he do? Did he tell Bryce the truth?" she thought and her eyes widened.

Josephine left and went to her room. She quickly picked up her phone and dialled a number. She brought the phone to her ears waiting for it to connect.

"What did you tell him?" Josephine asked.

"I told you my work is not for free," the man replied.

"But I offered you myself. Why did you take him?" Josephine questioned.

"I didn't take him. I simply gave him what belonged to him," the man replied not at all bothered by Josephine's concern.

"He is my only son. I can't have him join your dangerous group," Josephine said.

"You weren't bothered when your husband was a part of us," the man said.

"I wasn't until I saw the dangers involved. He hid his identity very well but look what happened to him in the end," Josephine complained.

"His death was not ordinary and with your son, taking his position after his father, as our new Don, we will unearth the truth behind your husband's death. Ain't you tired of being a servant in your son's home?" the man questioned.

"He is my son and I love him. I don't mind," Josephine said. "Please, he is all I have. Don't let him join your group," she begged. "I will do anything you want. Just leave my son alone," Josephine pleaded.

"It doesn't work that way, Ms Josephine," the man said and ended the call.

"Oh no," Josephine cried.

Meanwhile, Angela was in a car heading for Bedford Hills Correctional Facility where she will serve her sentence. Her hands were in a handcuff. Other sentenced females sat in the car with her. Once they arrived, Angela was made to change her clothes into a prison uniform.

"This looks better on you than what you had on," the prisoner guard said and Angela remained silent.

The prison guard's phone rang and she answered.

"Yes," the prison guard said as she handed Angela her other things. "Yeah," she said. "okay," she added and put the phone back in her pocket. "Hmmm, who did you offend? They want you to hang to dry and I am going to make sure of that," whispered her last sentence to Angela while leaning towards her. "Now move," she yelled moving back to serve the other prisoners.

While Angela was walking towards the inner gate, all she had on her mind was Mr and Mrs Anderson. She wished she had not agreed to the nonsense marriage with Bryce. She touched her belly and tears streamed down her face as she slowly walked deeper into the space where she would spend the rest of her life.
