Chapter 163: Your Deeds Has Found You Out - Part 1

Ch. 163 / 193 Mar 05, 2025

"It appears Bryce has taken down the Davis family. Now if there was any hope that the once powerful family would rise again, that hope just died," Devon said.

"Wait, that was Bryce's doing?" Susan asked sounding surprised.

"Yes," Devon said. "That means we need to lay low for a while. We should leave the country. I am sure he is coming after you," he said.

"Okay," Susan said.

"Come over, let's leave as soon as possible," Devon said and ended the call after Susan had acknowledged.

After ending the call, Susan went online to read the news on Matilda Davis and George's arrest.

The arrest of Matilda Davis and George proves that all that glitter is not gold. The once-powerful family that ruled some years back has just been brought down to nothing because of their criminal activities. The Davis family had links with all the criminal organizations known as the mafias. They appeared to be operating legit business not knowing all the criminal activities going on within the country were from them. Their recent activities that led to their arrest were the kidnapping of Angela Anderson. Due to the quick intervention of a taxi driver who preferred to remain hidden from the public, Angela Anderson and another lady by the name of Zora were rescued from these criminals. What we are not too sure of is whether Angela was the brain behind this or she was a victim.

Susan read and smiled.

"Everything is still working in our favour," she said and felt there was no need for them to go into hiding. It was already late, so she went to bed.

The next day, early hours of the morning, Susan grabbed her car keys with a broad smile plastered on her face as she walked towards the door.

"Take care of the house, I will be back," Susan said to her new servant.

Since Devon acknowledged her as his daughter, he had provided her with some servants and guards. Even though Susan was not used to such a life, she did enjoy the service of the servants in the house.

Outside, she tossed the car keys to her driver and walked towards the car parked under a shed, swaying her lips from side to side.

Once she was in the back seat and the driver was behind the wheel, Susan said, "We are going to the Moore family house."

"Yes ma'am," the driver replied and put the car into motion.

They soon hit the main road and were on their way to their destination.

Same time, at the hospital, Bryce was sitting on the bed with a bandage around his leg that was injured. Lucky him, the bullet went through. Angela sat on the chair with her head resting on Bryce's lap.

"I am glad this is over," Angela whispered but loud enough for Bryce to hear her. "I was so scared. I thought this was going to be the end of us," she expressed. "Thank you for saving us all," she said.

"You mean a lot to me and I would never let anything bad happen to you," Bryce said gently running his fingers through her hair.

"Well, everything is alright. You are free to go home. I would advise not to put pressure on your foot while it heals. So you might want to use this to aid you to walk," the doctor said as soon as he entered the ward.

A nurse walked in holding a pair of crutches. She offered it to Bryce who was still sitting on the bed with his legs on the floor but the bandage foot suspended a little from the ground. Angela was sitting up on the chair with her hand resting on Bryce's lap as she stared at the crutches the nurse was holding out to Bryce.

"How long do I have to use this?" Bryce asked shifting his gaze from the nurse to the doctor.

"Until your foot heals," the doctor replied.

"How long would that take?" Bryce asked knowing he still had a lot to do.

Susan and Devon are still walking free. He has also not found Mrs Anderson yet. He could not have himself restricted by this walking aid. He also needed to get himself a new job. The money in his account would not sustain them for long.

"That depends on you. Healing time differs from person to person. Your immune system plays a role in the healing time," the doctor said. "In your case, this is a minor gunshot wound. No damages were done. So we are looking at a couple of weeks to tops a month," he said.

"I would use that for a month?" Bryce questioned narrowing his eyes and Angela lowered her head with pursed lips.

"Unfortunately, yes Mr Moore, but you are free to go home. You just need to pass by for regular check-ups," the doctor said.

"My love, you would be fine," Angela added her voice seeing Bryce was not happy about using the crutches.

There was a knock and Martin walked in.

"Sir," Martin said and Bryce knew Martin had a piece of information for him.

"Let's go home first," Bryce said. "How is Zora?" he asked.

"She is fine," Martin replied. "She has been discharged too and I have taken care of all the paperwork," he reported.

"Great, let's go home. There is still a lot to be done this week," Bryce said and the nurse helped him with the crutches.

Angela stood up and followed Bryce out of the ward, with the doctor, nurse and Martin exiting the ward later.

Angela, Bryce and Martin headed for the exit. They met Zora in the patient waiting area and she joined them. They all went out of the hospital and soon found themselves inside the car. Angela and Bryce sat in the back seat and Zora sat by Martin at the front. Bryce's crutches were placed in the boot of the car.

The car was soon in motion driving out of the hospital compound. Martin hit the main road and was now smoothly driving towards home.

Back at the hospital entrance, where Martin had driven the Range Rover out of the hospital compound, a man stood there wearing a long black jacket over black trousers. He had on a cowboy's hat. He pulled a phone out of his pocket and headed in the opposite direction after Martin had joined the main road from the hospital compound. He had a cigarette in his mouth. He dialled a number on his phone and brought the phone to his ears.

"Yes, boss. They all just left the hospital. I placed the tracker under the car. We would soon know where they live," he said and took another drag of smoke waiting to hear the boss's reply.

"Yes, boss. I am returning to the base," he said, ended the call and shoved the phone back into his pocket as he walked away.
