147: Letter From Mother - Part 2

Ch. 147 / 193 Mar 05, 2025

"That girl is plotting with Devon to find a way to get Bryce to sign off his inheritance from his father to Devon. Devon was supposed to take care of Bryce and transfer the inheritance to him once he is of age but Devon has failed to do that. Twice, the property has eluded him. He murdered Matthew for the inheritance but Matthew made it difficult for him to get it and now his plan to get Bryce to transfer the inheritance to him has failed. He using marriage now but that is also not working for him," Matilda explained.

"So why don't he just kill Bryce and the property would be his? I know that is what I would do. After all, it's still a family inheritance," George pointed out.

"No, it's not that simple," Matilda said. "If Bryce dies, all the inheritance would go to the orphanage. That is how Matthew has made it knowing his younger brother Devon is a cunning one," she said.

"Oh, that is why he is keeping Bryce alive?" George said.

"Yes," Matilda replied and the guard opened the door for them. "Bryce is the only one who can transfer the inheritance to Devon," she added.

"But Bryce is not aware of the inheritance?" George asked.

"What inheritance?" Bryce asked entering the hallway from the other side.

"Your inheritance in the Davis family," Matilda said quickly. "George tells me, you are ready to take up your position in the Davis family. It only means we need to make you aware of the extent of your inheritance," she added and George calmed himself, glad Matilda intervened.

"Hmmm," Bryce said.

"I am going back to my room to rest. I will find time so we talk. Now is not a good time," Matilda said and started walking away.

"It's sad to lose a daughter after doing everything to protect her," George said. "Your mother has been put to rest. It's time to find those criminals and it's also time for you to take your place," he said to Bryce before walking away leaving Bryce standing in his spot.

Bryce used the alternative entrance which connects directly to the floor leading to his room. Right in the hallway, he found Martin sitting on the seat waiting for him. Martin stood up upon seeing Bryce.

"Good afternoon, sir," Martin greeted and Bryce responded with a hmm.""I found this in one of the rooms. It's addressed to you," Martin said and pulled a white letter envelope from his jacket pocket and handed it to Bryce.

Bryce accepted the envelope which had his name and address boldly written on the back. He dismissed Martin and walked towards his room.

Inside his room which was a mini apartment with a living room, dining area, a study and a kitchen, he entered the bedroom, which had a bathroom and an inbuilt walk-in closet. He pulled the brown envelope from his jacket pocket and dropped it on the bedside table. He stared at the white envelope in his hand and tore it open. He sat on the bed, pulled the letter out of the envelope and dropped the envelope on the bedside table.

My Dearest Child,By the time you read this, I may be either kidnapped or probably dead. I am your biological mother. I had thought my child died at the hospital. I was also in a coma for a while. My mother Matilda Davis, changed my face with surgery after informing me that someone tried to kill me. I returned to the Moore family and took care of you as a nanny and left when your father Matthew died. She sent me back to be employed as your head of servants so I would find out who murdered your father. To date, I have found nothing. My mother Matilda Davis would come for you. Do not trust her. I am not sure but the Davis family is not what it appears to be. There is a conspiracy, I don't know who is involved. Be careful my son. Don't trust anyone. SignedJosephine Davis.Bryce read the letter and frowned. He picked up the brown envelope from Susan and opened it. He went through the content. He saw printout confirmations of payments made by Eva to some people. There were also pictures of Patricia and Elena taken on different days indicating that these two were being watched. She realized Eva was working with someone. There was a number, that Eva appeared to be communicating with and sharing details of her dealings with her.

"Okay, so this confirms that Eva was truly not working alone. If I can confirm that this number Eva was communicating with constantly is either Susan or Devon, I can have those two arrested," Bryce said and picked up his phone.

"Martin, come over to my room," Bryce said and ended the call.

"I need you to check whose number this is?" Bryce asked as soon as Martin entered and Martin frowned.

"Sir," Martin said staring at Bryce like he was crazy.

"I don't want to be the one to call," Bryce said and Martin relaxed his face.

Martin pulled a phone out of his pocket and opened a software. He put the number into the software and initiated the call from the app. He put the phone on speaker.

"Hello, who is this?" came a familiar voice and both Martin and Bryce exchanged glances shocked.
