Silas’s P.O.V
I found myself standing at a crossroad, unsure of which path to take — Anika had offered me her support and her pack to fight against my brother, the one who had forced me to leave my own pack, but at a cost.
She promised me a chance to reclaim my position as Alpha. But the catch was that she was to become my Luna.
I wasn't quite sure about that.
My thoughts immediately went to Zoya. How would she feel, I wondered, if she heard the offer that Anika had made?
Would she be angry? Sad? Both? Or would she keep her feelings to herself again and stay quiet so that others wouldn’t be bothered?
The thought brought a sharp ache in my chest. Zoya’s habit of bottling everything up and keeping to herself was going to cost her a lot someday and I worried about her…
The irony wasn’t lost on me. Me worrying about my mate when I was the cause of her worries in the first place. If only I had never met her in that cabin in the first place, then I wouldn’t be feeling so guilty right now.
After I requested some more time to think, I was led to a guest room. It was on a remote area of the pack house, far from the hustle and bustle of the main hallways. Solitude enveloped me where I sat on the bed, sighing as I looked around the room.
Soft hues of blue adorned the walls, casting a tranquil ambiance over the space. Moonlight filtered through the sheer curtains, painting delicate patterns on the wooden floor. The scent of fresh pine mingled with the subtle floral notes, creating a soothing atmosphere.
The room itself was spacious, furnished with a comfortable bed adorned with a plush duvet and a myriad of pillows. A small desk sat against the wall, adorned with a pen and notepad, inviting creativity and reflection. A cozy armchair nestled in one corner, accompanied by a side table where a few books lay in waiting.
The moonlight spilled through the glass, casting an ethereal glow over the room. The sight was mesmerizing, offering a sense of peace and a connection to the world outside. I couldn’t help but be drawn towards the moon, hoping to find some form of solace in the presence of the goddess who was always looking down at her creation.
As I stood up and walked towards the window, my footsteps muted by the plush carpet, I noticed that the window not only had a breathtaking view of the moon, but that it also overlooked the lush landscape of the Sapphire Mountains.
A sigh escaped my lips as I took in the tranquil ambiance, the room wrapping around me like a comforting embrace. It provided a much-needed respite from the turmoil that had plagued me in recent days.
I knew that, for the time being, this room would serve as my sanctuary, a place where I could gather my thoughts and contemplate the choices that lay before me.
I gazed out of the window, the moon casting its ethereal glow upon the landscape, mirroring the uncertainty that clouded my thoughts.
There seemed to be no escape from the consequences of my actions. I chose to come here. I chose to take up Anika on her offer. And now, it settled upon me like a heavy realization that there was no way out of this situation.
I couldn't return to my pack, and hiding away in Zoya's cabin was no longer an option. I had no place to go. No allies that I knew would be willing to take me in. Gustav and Camilla lived in the heart of the pack territory…so if I chose to go back to seek help from them, seeing as they were the only ones who still believed in me…I have no way to return.
I hadn't been an Alpha for long after my parents died, but in that short moment, I had noticed that there weren’t a long of people that I could count on. Not a lot of other packs extended their hand in friendship, but all they were doing was trying to get an opportunity to find my pack’s weakness and strike when I wasn’t looking. So I had distanced myself and my pack from the rest of the world. And we were self sufficient enough that we didn’t need all that much help from other packs.
And now that Ezra was the new Alpha, I couldn’t help but think that he would have the good sense of knowing that our neighbouring packs were after our territory and if he made the mistake of trusting them, he’d jeopardize pack security big time.
The image of Zoya haunted my mind, her growing closeness to Ezra serving as a painful reminder of the divide between us. It seemed that I had lost her trust, and the thought left a bitter taste in my mouth.
The silence of the room amplified the turmoil within me. I grappled with the weight of responsibility, contemplating the fate of my pack, my own future, and the potential alliance with Anika.
Memories of that fateful day when Lily was found lifeless flooded my mind, and I couldn't escape the suffocating grip of guilt that clung to my conscience.
A heavy weight settled on my shoulders as I pondered the series of misfortunes that unfolded since Lily became Ezra's mate.
Doubt gnawed at my core, and I couldn't help but question if some curse had befallen me, casting a shadow over everything I held dear.
Fear took hold of my thoughts, gripping my heart with icy tendrils. I couldn't bear the thought of history repeating itself, of losing another loved one to the darkness that seemed to follow in my wake.
If this wasn’t a curse then what was? How could I be surrounded by so much grief and misfortune without the influence of external forced playing their hand?
And maybe…just maybe…it was Ezra who was responsible for my cursed fate. Because the second he had walked back into the pack…it had been the beginning of my downfall.
