Claudius' perspective
Cielo was pacing back and forth anxiously in the living room of the pack house. When she saw me walking in, her eyes flew behind me, looking for the pack's Luna.
“Clau, you're finally back! Why isn't Eero with you?”
“She'll be right in.” I said coldly.
Cielo sighed out of relief. She looked at my hand and noticed the blood stains.
“You killed that old woman? In front of Eero?” Obviously, Cielo was shocked too.
“Are you going to defend that old woman too?”
Cielo shook her head.
“No. I didn't mean to defend her. It's just, with Luna's condition…" She suddenly went silent.
“Luna's condition? What do you mean by that? What's going on with Eero?” I stepped towards her, because she just piqued my full interest.
“She didn't tell you?” She asked back when my patience snapped.
“Do you think I would ask you about it if I knew?! Now tell me, Cielo! What is going on with Eero?”
Yet she just bowed her head to me.
“I'm not in the place to tell you about that, Alpha. Just wait for the Luna. I'm sure she will tell you about it. Now I'm going to bring shaved ice and bourbon to your office.” Cielo dismissed the conversation.
She was a mother to me, and she was also one of the few people that I would never dare to hurt. Occasionally, she used that knowledge to her advantage, like what she was doing now.
I was about to head towards my office when I found a crochet fabric on the sofa. It had Eero's scent, which drew me towards it.
“A baby blanket, hmm?” I mumbled to myself before dropping it back on the sofa.
“So Eero is pregnant?” I glanced at the door waiting for her to show up.
“I hope she'll tell me the news soon. God knows how little patience I have,” I whispered to myself.
While I was cleaning the blood off my hand, I got a flashback of how scared Eero looked when I slashed the woman's neck.
I turned off the faucet and rested my hands against the white sink.
“Should I just tell her that I already knew about her pregnancy?” I nodded my head, ready to do that, but then my mind changed.
“Would that take away her excitement of telling me that she is now bearing my heir?” I looked up at the high ceiling of the comfort room and groaned in annoyance, stomping on the black marble floor.
Then there came a knock on the door. I felt excited, thinking it must be Eero.
“Luna Eero is now up in her room. She told me all the details of what you did on the outskirts. I think she deserves a little break after all that.” Cielo poured the bourbon into my crystal glass.
“Was I being overreacting? Should I have just let that one slide?” I asked Cielo in annoyance.
Cielo put her hands behind her back as she stood straight behind me, ready to hear me pouring it all out.
“I mean not only did that woman tell me that I was born with no right over Regulus, she said that I'll be the Alpha Queen's enemy.” I chuckled bitterly and sipped on my liquor. “Being the Alpha's enemy means that I'm a traitor to the realm too… and really? A female Alpha?”
“Does that sounds so impossible, Clau?” Cielo asked.
“I've never seen a female Alpha. Yes, there are female heirs, but the ruling ultimately goes to their husband after they get married.” I looked at her in the eyes and nodded my head. “So, yes. It's quite impossible, in my opinion. The realm will never be ready for a female Alpha.”
“How about your Luna, Alpha? Have you spent a second in your life looking at her… thinking that she'd make a great Alpha?”
A smirked washed over my face at Cielo's silly question. “Eero didn't even ask me to give back her pack to her. I don't think she is interested in ruling a pack.”
“Are you telling me that in your eyes though, you've learned to become affectionate towards her? Or you still see her as a breeder? A baby machine to give you heirs?”
“That didn't come out of my lips! Stop putting words in my mouth, Cielo. Enough of this conversation and female Alpha, it's never going to happen!” I was outraged.
Cielo nodded and then she excused herself. But before she finally got out of the office, I finally spoke.
“I grew up with you telling me that Regulus is mine to claim. I build my life around that one goal, and if I can't have the throne...”
Cielo slowly turned to face me again.
“I would rather set the throne and the realm on fire than serve another Alpha! A female one on top of that!”
Hearing my words, Cielo put on a look that was not easy for me to decipher.
“I hope that the old woman's prophecy is wrong then, Clau. I hope you sit in the throne and rule the realm. The world is never going to be ready for a vicious beast that you will turn into once you can't have this thing that you're dying to have.”
With that, she left.
