I have been lying awake in Blake’s bed for the last half hour. I didn’t want to move because I was comfortable and warm; plus, he had his arms wrapped around me. I felt strange snuggled up with him like this, but it was nice, also. I won’t lie; a part of me wants to remove myself from his hold and run, but I won’t. Here I am, safe. Max can’t get to me. If I went home, I don’t want to imagine what would happen, considering I did a vanishing act last night without a word.
I turn my attention to Blake. He is out for the count, snoring. I find myself admiring him. He is so handsome, and I don’t believe I have met a man as beautiful as him, inside and out. I quickly pull away, not wanting to risk him sensing me staring at him.
I carefully remove his arms from around me and climb out of bed. I tiptoed to the bathroom. I manage to make it without awakening him. I did what I needed and headed back down, but he hadn’t shifted at all. I stand awkwardly in his living room area, wondering what to do. A part of me wanted to climb back in next to him, but I decided not to.
Instead, I decided to make breakfast. It is the least I can do after everything he has done for me. Though, it depends on what he is in his fridge because I don’t have any cash to buy anything. I saunter to the kitchen and towards the fridge. I open it, seeing it is full of food. Hmm, I can make a cheese omelette with a side of bacon. I take what I need out, placing it on the counter. Now, to find where he keeps his cooking supplies.
I make sure not to be too noisy as I go through his drawers and cupboards and eventually find what I need to make a start on breakfast. I know how to cook because I used to do all the cooking when I was a kid and also for Max.
I start prepping; not like it will take long to make. As I am in the middle of mixing everything together, I hear movement in the apartment.
“Chloe?” Blake calls out.
I am sure he probably thinks I am away since I wasn’t next to him and disappeared yesterday morning.
“Kitchen,” I call back.
He soon appears with a bright smile on his lips, “You are still here!” he seems surprised.
“Yes, still here and making breakfast,” I reply, grinning.
“You don’t have to do that, angel. I can make us breakfast.”
Every time he calls me angel, it makes my heart flutter and causes butterflies in my stomach because I am not used to being called such sweet names.
“I got it. My way of saying thank you.” I smile.
“Okay. Thank you. Do you want some coffee?”
I nod, and he goes to make our coffee, and I get back to making breakfast for us. I put the bacon in the grill and poured the omelette mixture into the pan.
“Coffee is served. Come and sit with me.” Blake suggests.
I head over to the counter, hopping up on one of the stools next to him, taking a sip of my coffee.
“How did you sleep? And have you taken your medication?” he asks softly, taking a sip from his mug.
“I slept the best I have done in a while. No, not yet, but I will after breakfast.” I prefer to have something in my stomach because if I don’t, they make me feel sick.
“Good, glad you slept well. Okay, and after breakfast, you can tell me what you need. Maybe write me a list, along with your house key, and I can pick your things up.”
“I will, but as long as you promise me you won’t go alone?” I sigh.
Max can be dangerous, even alone. He carries a knife with him, and I honestly don’t think he would hesitate to use it.
“I promise. I will ask a couple of my friends to come with me.” I knew by only looking at him he was telling me the truth.
“Then I will write you a list, but please be careful. He might not be home, but if he is, watch your backs.” The concern in my voice is evident.
I will be a mess from when he leaves until he returns because I will be worried something has happened to him.
“We will. You stop stressing over it; everything will be fine.” He says softly, reaching over and resting his hand over mine, squeezing it.
I nod, managing a small smile. I excuse myself to check on breakfast.
“Maybe I should come with you,” I blurt out.
“No way in hell I am letting that happen, Chloe. I don’t want him anywhere near you. Me and my friends can handle it. You can stay here, relax and stay safe.” He replies firmly.
I sigh, running my fingers through my hair, “Fine.” I groan.
He chuckles, and I hear him stand. His footsteps get closer to me, and I feel his presence behind me.
“Don’t get huffy, angel. I am only looking out for you.” He says softly, resting his hand on the small of my back for a moment and then appearing by my side.
“I know. I understand and appreciate it, but I don’t want you getting into any trouble because of me, Blake.” I protest.
Blake rests his hand on my hip, turning me to face him. He reaches up, stroking the hair away from my eyes, “I will be okay, I swear. We will get in, gather what you need and leave. Max tries to start, and he will get punched in the face and be warned to back off.”
I could continue to try to argue with him on it, but I don’t think it will help. He isn’t going to let me go with them, no matter what I say, and it is probably for the best, anyway.
“There is no way of me changing your mind, uh?” I whisper.
“Nope! I told you I would keep you safe, Chloe and I meant it.” he pulls me to his chest and hugs me.
I was a little taken aback at first because I wasn’t expecting it. It only took a second for me to relax and hug him back. I like when he hugs me.
“Breakfast, we should check on it,” I whisper, but I don’t want to pull away.
“It is fine. It will be another few minutes,” Blake says. He must have checked it by glancing over my shoulder.
I find myself hugging him tighter, but he doesn’t seem to mind. He strokes the small of my back and plants a kiss on the top of my head. Neither of us spoke as we stood there, hugging until we had to pull apart.
“Sorry,” I blush.
“For what?” he asks, with a confused look.
“Not letting go,” I stammer out.
Blake smiles at me, “You have nothing to be sorry about.”
He kisses my forehead this time before disappearing to get plates and cutlery for us. He is such a sweetheart. I am waiting for all that to change and for him to turn into an asshole because that is what usually happens; well, in my experience, but I really hope he proves me wrong.
