"My goodness! The queen is going to kill me if she finds out that I gave you a soap you were allergic to," Evelyn cried as she bent towards me to help me clean up the mess I had just made on the floor.
"Why did you choose peppermint out of all the scents?" Miriam scolded Evelyn.
"She had said that I could choose any scent," Evelyn replied, as they both kept on arguing between themselves about why they had used the scent.
"Enough, the both of you." I groaned in frustration as I held my stomach while wincing in pain. It has been so long since I vomited that I was quick to forget how unpleasant the feeling was.
"Please don't tell the queen, we're so sorry." Miriam pleaded, and I was close to snapping at them and forcing them to shut up, as their noise was just making it worse for me. I was finally relieved of the nausea feeling, but I didn't think the soap was the cause of my vomiting. Could it be morning sickness? My first morning sickness?
The thought of it made me happy to the point where I couldn't stop the smile from forming on my lips. It might come off as weird that I was happy about something most female wolves hated, but anything that had to do with my child was able to bring a smile to my face.
I suddenly came back to my senses as I saw both Miriam and Evelyn staring at me in an awkward manner as their brows furrowed in confusion.
"I'll take care of myself," I said to the two girls after clearing my throat as I waved for them to leave the room. Once the door shut behind them, I drained the bath with a smile on my face and made myself a new one with an unscented soap from the shelf. I was glad that it didn't trigger my morning sickness. I might have been happy to feel it, but that doesn't mean that I always want to have morning sickness.
Shortly after, I was done with the bath and left the bathroom for the room. Luckily, Miriam and Evelyn weren't in the room, but they had left a dress on the bed for me.
I strolled towards the dress, and a sneer appeared on my face at the design. Why don't they have normal dresses, pants, and tops in this place? I had no choice but to wear the cream-colored modern ball gown that was laced with gold around its waist. Surprisingly, the dress was my perfect size as it hung perfectly on my every curve.
"Why do they have a perfect-sized cloth for me in the castle without having my measurements?" I thought to myself but was quick to dismiss the thought. Right now, all I needed was to meet with the queen, and once I see her, she'll have no choice but to let the future Lycan queen go to her palace.
I turned to look into the huge mirror that was hung on the side of the wall as I admired the details of the dress. It was not so bad after all. My hair was really messy, but I had no time to style it, so I just combed my hands through it and left it.
After I was done examining myself and the dress, which was actually nice on me, I strolled towards the huge door and gave it another shot as I dragged it open and it immediately opened.
"Hi!" Miriam exclaimed immediately I opened the door, as I almost had a heart attack. I wasn't expecting them to be waiting at the door for me.
"You look amazing in that dress," they both said in unison, with a broad smile on their faces, and to be honest, I was already freaking out at their actions.
"Where’s the queen?" I asked as they both took my arm in theirs with a smile and led me down a corridor.
We finally arrived at a courtroom with three thrones right in front of us, but only one throne was occupied, as the largest and smallest thrones were empty.
"What took you girls so long to bring our guest to me?" The queen scolded both Miriam and Evelyn as they immediately apologised to the queen, but I was quick to notice that the queen was an old woman with a fragile voice.
"Forgive us, my queen," they said again before the queen stretched forth her hands to dismiss the girls, but her face was still hidden in the shadows.
"I'm grateful for the hospitality but I need to go back to my husband" I told her with a straight and confident voice, but I left out the part about my husband being the Lycan prince because Alaric had a lot of enemies who might also want me dead.
"It's an honour to have you in our kingdom, my dear," she said as she stood up from the throne and walked closer to me. I was finally able to see her face, but she didn't look like she was a bad person or was going to hurt me, and a broad smile was laced on her round face.
Her eyes were blue and her hair was blonde, just like Evelyn and Miriam, but she didn't look like them. They only had similar features, which made me wonder if all the ladies in the castle had blonde hair and blue eyes, as I had spotted some maids and nobles on the way to the courtroom, and they all had blonde hair and blue eyes, but their men had brunette hair and brown eyes.
The only female with brown hair and brown eyes that I have seen in the castle was the portrait of the girl in my room who had a tiara on her head.
"Thank you, your highness, but I am afraid I must leave now," I said with a bow as a hint of sadness appeared on her face.
"Of course, but could you please stay a little longer because my kingdom desperately needs your assistance?" My mouth dropped open in a scoff as she spoke.
"How in hell could I possibly help your kingdom after waking up from a coma?" I need to leave to meet my husband" I said, with the tone in my voice high, but the moment I saw her flinching at my words, I regretted raising my voice at her, but how the fucking hell is she ruling a kingdom if she's just going to flinch at every word I say.
"Look, I'm sorry, but there's literally no way I can help your kingdom." I sighed while pinching the bridge of my nose.
"There's a way," she instantly replied.
"You don't get it; I need to be with my husband and I need to leave now. If you're not going to help me, then I'll leave myself, "I said, already tired of the drama with her as I turned my back to leave and find my way out of the castle.
"Lenora!" She called my name, making me freeze on the spot.
I slowly turned to look at her, and she had a grin on her face.
"Yes, I know who you are and I know who your husband is." She said, but her voice didn't sound the same anymore. It didn't sound like a frail old woman, but rather with boldness. She was definitely up to something bad.
"Then why aren't you letting me go?" I asked as a laugh left her lips.
"Oh darling, I can't let you go. Your husband killed my husband and daughter for a reason unknown. They took away the only hope our kingdom had of surviving, and you want me to let you go? " She chuckled as I sighed in frustration, almost breaking down. Why must I always get into trouble because of Alaric? Why must it always be him? Ever since the kidnap, I haven't been fighting my battles but his. Why does his life have to influence me in a bad way?
"What do you want from me?" I asked as she heaved out a deep breath.
"Look honey, you're now Addison, my daughter, and you'll be wedded to the price of our neighbouring kingdom, Kingdom Latvera. You'll serve as an alliance between both kingdoms so as for them not to destroy our kingdom Edessa." She casually said, as if she was tasking me to make her a cup of coffee.
"And what if I declined?" I asked.
"Then all I have to do is announce to everyone here that you, the wife of the devil's son, are in my palace and, oh, you don't want to know how many people would kill for your head on their plate." She threatened as I felt every muscle in me tensing. I was restraining myself from hitting her hard on the face, but the grin on her face was making it harder for me.
I stood still and frozen for some time as I contemplated on what I would do to get out of this situation, but my chances of surviving were thin as I didn't even know my way out of this place and I don't think I'm good enough to dodge everyone that wants to kill me. But then, if I agree to her terms and go to Latvera, I'm in another strange place with no information about how brutal they could be.
"Please let me go, I'm begging," I pleaded as I fell to her knees, pleading for her mercy, as that was my only chance of survival.
"Don't be pathetic, get up," she said, but with the tone of her voice, her mind was already made up.
"You know the feeling of losing a child, please don't make me go through that," I pleaded as her eyes narrowed at me in realisation.
"I've lost every inch of feeling in me since your husband took away my only happiness." She spoke softly, but I could hear the pain in her voice.
"You should be thankful you have brown hair and brown eyes; that's the only reason you are alive. If otherwise, you and your child would drown and be eaten by sharks, "she added before walking back to her throne.
"You're leaving tomorrow. Mike! " She called for someone while I remained on the floor thinking of how my life had become. There was no way that she was going to change her mind.
"Send words to the kingdom of Latvera that the princess will arrive tomorrow," she announced as the guard bowed before walking out. I was done for.
