Louisa's POV
"You've been very quiet all the way back, Miss Louisa," Lucian asked me while helping me to get off the carriage.
"It's nothing. I guess I just get a bit sentimental when I see some old friends." I whispered.
"Soldiers will escort you to the Luna Tent," Lucian said.
"I want to go check out Darren first," I said.
"He's already been transferred to the Luna Tent," Lucian said.
"OK..." Just as I was about to walk away, I turned back, looked at Lucian, and said, "Thank you very much for everything, Lucian."
"It's been a pleasure, Miss Louisa," Lucian bowed slightly and walked off.
The Luna Tent was just adjacent to Lucas' tent. As soon as I stepped into it, I smelt a strong scent of lavender and thyme. Everything in the Luna Tent was organized and posh. I had dreamt that one day I would live in such a beautiful tent.
Darren was lying on a camp bed set up next to the window.
Jafar, Alpha Zackery's physician, was sitting next to his bed.
"Louisa, you're back. Great. It's just in time. I was about to help him change some bandages," Jafar said.
I walked towards them and held Darren's hand.
He looked much better than this morning.
"Louisa..." Darren whispered, trying to sit up.
"Please remain still, Darren. Do you want something to drink?" I asked.
Darren shook his head slightly and said, "I can't stay in here, Louisa."
"Why not? You're my personal guard now. So you stay wherever I stay," I said, washing my hands and helping Jafar to take out some clean bandages from a plate.
"Personal guard?" Darren looked confused.
"Yes, Lucas reassigned you to me. So you work for me now. You stay here with me in this tent. That's the order." I winked at him and said.
Darren looked a bit relieved.
Jafar removed his clothes and said, "I want you to hold him like this, and I'll remove the old bandages. Can you do that?"
I nodded and held Darren's shoulders.
"Zowie guacamole! That's a nasty, nasty wound! I think I'm going to pass out!" Colt covered his forehead and exclaimed.
"Colt, we're busy and you're not helping," I looked at him and said.
"What have they done to my Darren? My sweet, sweet warlock brother!" Colt threw himself on the floor next to the bed, holding Darren's hand.
"Doctor, do you have something to sedate him? You know, the thing they give to horses before castrating them, maybe?" Darren asked in a quiet voice.
Jafar looked amused and quickly applied some new bandages on Darren's wound.
"Very funny, Darren," Jafar said. "A sense of humor is a good sign of recovering."
I noticed there were some scratching marks on Jafar's arms, so I asked, "What happened to your arms, Jafar?"
Jafar immediately used his sleeves to cover his arms and said, "Oh, these! I really don't know. Sometimes I bump into things or scratch myself accidentally while I'm working and I have absolutely no memory of what has happened."
I was confused. He didn't come across as being a clumsy guy.
Just when I was about to keep asking him, a plump figure showed up at the entrance of the tent.
"Can someone explain to me why this servant girl is in Luna Tent?!" Josephine raised her voice and asked. "And why is she surrounded by so many men?!"
All her guards and maids were silent, standing behind her with lowered heads.
I stared at her and said, "We're helping our friend to change bandages. Please get out of the tent."
"Are you asking me to leave?! How dare you?! Do you know who I am?" Josephine said with raised eyebrows and crossed arms.
"I don't care who you are," I said. "And I don't want to start a fight. You're interrupting our medical procedure. It's our friend that we're working on. So please go away right now."
"I am Lady Josephine Finch, the daughter of Alpha Basil from Goldpaw Canines and Princess Tala Finch! My cousin is His Majesty the King! Who the hell are you?!"
"My name is none of your business. Walk off and get a life, Josephine. This isn't the place for you to throw a tantrum." I said.
"Are you telling me what to do?! How dare to talk back at me like that?" Josephine's face distorted. Vicious rage covered every inch of her like a web of sweat.
"Guards! Take this shameless filthy little whore out of the tent and throw her so-called male whore friend out! Bring me a leash and whip! I'm going to lash her for being rude to me!" Josephine shouted at the top of her lungs.
Just when those soldiers were about to jump at me, Will ran into the tent, with Snow on his shoulder.
He was playing outside with Snow just now and he must have heard the noise.
"Nobody touches Louisa!" Will's eyes turned red when he stood between me and the soldiers.
Snow snarled at them as well.
Those soldiers didn't take a small kid seriously, so they tried to push him away.
Will opened his mouth, exposed his long sharp fangs, and took a bite of a soldier's arm.
The soldier screamed and tried to pull his arm back, but Will wouldn't let go of it. So, his arm was slashed open. And there was blood everywhere.
Will licked the blood on the corner of his mouth.
"Who else wants to try?" He glared at the soldiers and asked.
All the soldiers were intimidated.
"He's a vampire!"
"I thought vampires died out!"
"Apparently they're still alive!"
"What's this vampire doing here and why is he protecting that girl?"
They discussed in a low voice, but I could hear them very clearly.
"What are you waiting for? Go ahead and catch that girl!" Josephine howled at her guards.
Nobody dared to step forward.
Josephine slapped them and said, "A bunch of useless cowards! Go get her for me!"
The guards still refused to move.
I couldn't watch it anymore, so I stepped forward and said, "Enough! Josephine! Stop beating those poor soldiers! They're someone's husbands and sons! They work for you, but it doesn't mean that you can bully them like this! Do you want to take this outside? Let's take it outside! Colt, come here and hold Darren for the doctor. Will, stay out of this. Do not hurt anyone anymore."
"But Louisa..." Will looked at me indignantly.
"No means no!" I raised my voice and walked out of the tent.
