Louisa's POV
Lucian brought almost everything with a price tag in that contour shop on that day.
"This is too much... I can't possibly wear so many clothes..." I said to him as he asked the soldiers to take the shopping bags out.
"You don't have to wear them at the same time. That's my fashion advice for you, Miss Louisa," Lucian lowered his head and winked at me. "My job is to spend money and make you happy. So here I am, spending Lucas' money and trying to make you feel happy. Do you feel better now?"
"Not really," I whispered.
My mate is going to get married to a redhead girl who hates bugs. I don't think buying two hundred-something clothes is going to cheer me up. I thought to myself.
"Where's Lady Akela?" I looked around and asked.
"She's been taken good care of," Lucian said.
"Are you going to hurt her?" I frowned.
"You don't have to worry about her, Miss Louisa," he replied.
It seemed that he didn't want to go into any details about this topic anymore.
"Do you feel hungry? You haven't eaten anything this morning and now it's almost lunchtime," Lucian said.
I did feel a bit hungry. So I nodded.
"Great. I know a place where we can have some decent food. Do you like crayfish?" he asked.
"You mean those small lobsters found in the lake?" I asked. "Back in our tribe, the cook used to ask me to smash them to feed chickens. He's from the south, so you know, he doesn't trust anything with shells can be edible."
"Do you want to have a food adventure?" Lucian asked.
"I would love to," I said in a quiet voice. "I can eat basically everything."
Once, I was too hungry, so I had to steal some slop from the crib.
I had never told anyone about it, though.
As Lucian took me into a restaurant at the corner of the street, I noticed some odd thing.
There weren't any birds in the sky.
All the birds were gone, which means one thing...
Vampires?
I looked up and saw a small bat gliding across the sky above my head.
It was rare to see a bat in broad daylight, so I immediately knew it was Will.
Lucian looked up and spotted him as well.
"It seems that your little friend doesn't want to leave you alone. Why don't you ask him to come down and join us before he gets burnt? It's cloudy now. But the Sun is coming out soon," Lucian said.
I waved at the bat and said, "Will, come down here!"
The bat swirled a few rounds above me and landed on the ground in front of me.
I ran towards him and picked him up. He looked a bit panicked and covered his head with his wings.
"What happened to you, Will?" I asked and gently patted his head.
There was no response from him.
I guessed he must still be angry at me.
I had no other way, so I had to put him in the pocket in front of my chest.
He looked quite content staying there, popping up his small rat-like head from the edge of my pocket and looking around.
"Have you guys got into an argument or something?" Lucian asked.
I lowered my head to look at Will.
"I said very mean things to him, so he left me. I shouldn't have said things like that. I owe him an apology," I said.
"Will's a very smart kid. I don't think he would take your angry words seriously. That's why he's back. He wants to look after you," Lucian looked at Will and said.
Will hid his head in my pocket.
Lucian smiled.
"I like him better when he's in the form of a little bat. Do you want to ask him if he wants to have anything to eat?" he asked.
"Will, are you hungry? Can I find you something to eat?" I asked.
"I don't mind taking a bite of Lucian. He looks delicious." Will smacked his mouth and said.
"What did he say?" Lucian asked me as we walked into the restaurant.
To him, Will's speech was just some noisy screech and hiss.
"He wants to have three pints of warm goat blood if that's possible," I answered.
Lucian took a glance at a waiter standing in front of us, who immediately said, "Three pints of warm goat blood. Yes, Sir. Right away."
I frowned and asked, "Where are they going to find three pints of goat blood? This is a crayfish restaurant."
"Well, let's give them some space to be creative. Anyway, this isn't the first time they bring wild things to accommodate customers' needs," Lucian said. "Luke once asked them to bring him a camel. And they brought it to him within 30 minutes."
"But... Why?" I frowned. "I mean... what did he need a camel for?"
"Well, he was drinking, so it's hard to tell what's exactly on his mind. But he had never seen a camel before. So I guess he wanted to see it," Lucian said.
Will sneaked out of my pocket and crawled all the way up to Lucian like he was a tree trunk.
Then, he sat on his shoulder and looked at me from the gap of his champagne colored hair. I knew he wanted to play hide and seek with me.
"Where's Will? I can't find him," I pretended to look down and asked with surprise.
Will gloated.
"I need to find him because if people find a bat in a crayfish restaurant, they might put it down straight away or put it into a marmalade jar." I looked around and said.
Lucian looked at me with admiration.
"Will, where are you? Are you under the chair? Are you behind the vase? Are you hanging upside down somewhere on the roof?"
Will hissed with excitement on Lucian's shoulder.
"Oh, there you go, little mouse. Come here before I put you on a spinner wheel." I stretched out my arms at him.
Will jumped up on my palm, stretched out his wings, and embraced my arm.
I melted immediately and held him closer to me. His furry little head stroked against my chest.
I tapped his piggy-like snout and said, "I'm sorry, Will. Please don't go away from me again."
"You know I will never leave you, Louisa," Will said. "I might pretend to go away, but I'll always come back to you."
