Louisa's POV
"You seem to be preoccupied with some troubles rather than pain." Zackery looked down at me and said.
His flawless face looked amazing in the silver moonlight.
"You seem to enjoy carrying me around in your arms," I said. "I'm not a doll or a pet."
"You want me to put you down now?" he asked. "I would be more than happy to take a walk with you under this beautiful moonlight."
I shook my head. I knew the moment he put me down, I would feel the excruciating pain caused by Lucas.
He smiled with great satisfaction.
He always looked so powerful, modest, and confident with his sparkling smile and dazzling charm.
"How does it feel to be a Lycan?" I asked.
"I don't know. I was born this way. I have never experienced any other kind of life. All I can say is that life is good."
"Zabel played a trick with me today," I said. "He called it 'the Secret Passage'. Wherever we went, the door opened by itself."
"Yeah, he does that when he wants to please girls. I told him it was a lame trick, but he didn't buy it. He can be really stubborn sometimes," Zackery shrugged and said.
"You two seem to be very close," I said.
"Yeah, he's my elder brother and we've grown up together. He's my best friend in the world." Zackery looked very happy when he talked about Zabel.
"I wish I could have a sibling like that," I said.
Zackery looked at me. For a brief moment, he didn't say anything. It seemed that he had been lost in his thoughts.
"I'm sorry. Did I say something wrong?" I asked.
"No. Of course not." Zackery stroked my hair behind my ear and said. "I'm just feeling a bit emotional. Everyone else wishes to have my status or wealth, but you just wish to have a brother like mine."
His stare was burning hot, so I had to lower my head to chill out for a bit.
He used his long and slender fingers to lift my chin, staring into my eyes, and said, "If you had a brother, he must be a very pretty boy."
"Please don't make fun of me," I buried my head in his chest and said.
The sound of his heartbeat was hypnotizing.
"You want to see some other tricks, little girl?" His deep voice floated around my ears.
I looked up at him and nodded.
He pointed at the night sky.
As soon as he raised his hand, I saw them.
Shooting into space in the summer night air, wheezing in a splash of colors and light. Then, after brief suspense, they burst into thousands of sparkles and spangles, melting into a million glitters.
It was the first time I saw fireworks in my entire life.
"It's for you, little girl," Zackery looked down at me and said.
The bright and dim light alternated on his handsome face.
I looked at him and my heart skipped a beat. When everyone was looking at the fireworks in the sky, he was staring at me.
"I'm sorry for kissing you without your permission at the ball, little girl," Zackery said in the most tender voice I had ever heard in my life.
"I'm sorry for slapping you in front of everyone and throwing myself off the fifth floor..." I bit my lips and said.
"I'm going to kiss you now, little girl. May I?" Zackery asked as he lowered his head towards me.
What have I done in my life? A Lycan is asking my permission to kiss me! I thought to myself.
I lowered my head.
My old self lurking in my subconsciousness told me that I should say no because, well, I had a mate.
But all of a sudden, all the scenes started to flashback like a film at the back of my mind.
The girl who stabbed bad guys in their necks.
The girl who rose from death.
The girl who said no to rejection.
The girl who got drunk and climbed up a table, cursing and demanding an apology in front of everyone.
The girl recovered from a violent beating.
The girl who danced and threw a sword.
The girl slapped a Lycan before throwing herself off a building.
All of these girls merged into one figure. It was the new self I was looking at in the puddle of water on the ground.
"What are you waiting for?" she asked. "If you said no to him, wouldn't you regret it for the rest of your life? And I'm talking about thousands of years."
I raised my head and stared at Zackery, who was looking at me with an inquiry.
"Little girl," he said. "It's OK if you say no to m..."
He didn't finish his sentence, because I had already lifted my chin and kissed him.
He was such a good kisser that I had forgotten that I had only planned to kiss him briefly.
When I realized it, it was too late.
His hands gently supported my neck and the back of my head. His arms were holding me tightly against his chest. Then, he used his tongue to open my lips and poked it into my mouth. My whole body was lit on fire.
No one had ever kissed me like this. This was...
Very unexpected and erotic.
What was I supposed to do? Where should I put my hands? My whole body was petrified. I even forgot to breathe.
Zackery noticed my reaction, so he moved his head slightly away from me and whispered, "You're not going to slap me again for this, right?"
I opened my eyes and kept panting. I needed more air to get into my chest, or I would pass out.
I licked my lips and looked at Zackery. Deep down in my heart, I wanted him to keep kissing me like this, but at the same time, I felt very ashamed of my secret desire.
"You..." I looked at him and bit my lips. My face was burning, so I guessed I looked like a tomato.
"What, little girl?" He whispered while looking at me passionately.
"You're a good kisser," I frowned and said. "Can you teach me how to kiss a man?"
"I can only teach you how to kiss me, little girl," Zackery smiled and sealed my lips again.
