Louisa’s POV
Just when I was wondering about how to get out, a young soldier walked into the tent, holding a tray of food.
"Beta told me to take this to you. I’ll be back and collect the tray later."
He was about to walk away.
"Hey," I stopped him, "can you get me out of here? I’ll give you a Shaman’s pearl."
The soldier looked at me with sparks in his eyes and asked, "A real pearl?"
"Yes," I said, "but you have to get me out of here."
The soldier frowned and said, "I don’t know. If Beta found out about this…"
"He wouldn’t find out. I just wanted to go out and see the fighting. When the fighting’s over, I’ll be back."
"I’ve put a lot of bet on our Gamma. That rogue wouldn’t survive even one round." he said.
"So, if you raised the stake up to one pearl, you’ll get a lot more pearls at the end of the fighting. Then, you’ll be rich."
He rolled his eyes and thought for a while.
"OK," he said, "show me the pearl first and I’ll leave the key accidentally on the floor."
I took out the pack of pearls from my package and handed one to him.
His eyes were locked on those pearls.
I quickly put it away and said, "If you keep helping me, I’ll give you more pearls."
"But if you’re dead, I can take away all the pearls without taking any risks."
His eyes were suddenly lit up with cruelty and flame.
He pulled out his knife and approached me.
I panicked and walked back, but tripped over the chain and fell to the floor.
The pearls fell off my hands and bounced on the floor, rolling everywhere.
Shaman’s pearls were cursed. I shouldn’t have shown them to anyone.
Uma specifically told me about this!
How could I be this careless and stupid!
As I was blaming myself, the young soldier was busy bending down and collecting the pearls.
I bit my lips and swiftly jumped behind him, used the chain to coil his neck, and started pulling.
"Ah! Stop! I’ll… kill you!" he screamed, trying to wave his knife at me.
I dodged his strike. Then, I used all my force to press my legs against his back while pulling his neck towards me.
I heard a crispy click coming from his neck.
Then, he stopped struggling.
I loosed the chain and found tears were coming out of my eyes.
I kept telling myself that I had to kill him.
He wanted to kill me and take away all the pearls.
But I still couldn’t stop crying.
I shouldn’t have been so stupid to show all my pearls to him.
He was so young and probably he was someone’s son or brother.
He died because of my stupidity.
Then, I heard the chaotic cheering coming from a distance.
I knew the fighting had begun.
I quickly put myself together and gathered up all the pearls and put them back into the box.
Then, I tapped his pockets and found a chain of keys.
I tired them one after another until the lock on my collar clicked open.
I quickly ran out of the tent.
Following the sound of the hubbub, I got to the edge of an open field.
I hid behind a tree to avoid being seen by the crowd.
From the gaps between the branches, I saw the black rogue wolf grappling with a pure white wolf.
They were about the same size, but the white wolf was obviously more energetic and forceful.
However, the black rogue was more tactical. He was with more experience and dexterity, dodging from his fierce attack while biding for the right moment to retaliate.
When the white wolf and black rogue jump at each other and collide in the air, I couldn’t help myself but gasp in fear.
The black rogue instantly saw me and that was why he was distracted and lost his balance.
The white wolf took this chance and used his force to overthrow the rogue on the ground, stepping on his back and violently biting the back of his neck.
Blood immediately came out of the rogue’s back and the white wolf’s fur was drenched in blood.
"No!!" I screamed madly, rushing out of the tree and charging at them.
People around the ring were shocked, because none of them could imagine a tiny girl like me would dare to interfere with a fierce wolf fight like this.
I used all my force to push the white wolf away from the rogue.
As soon as the white wolf turned back and saw me, he almost reflectively opened his giant mouth and tried to bite me.
I closed my eyes, but nothing happened.
I opened my eyes again and saw a strong arm blocking in front of me, being bitten by the white wolf.
I looked up and saw Lucian standing next to me.
"Enough, Kylo." He said and swiped his arm.
The white wolf rolled over and shifted into a tall and muscular man.
He wasn’t wearing anything and his body was covered in blood.
As the soldiers covered him with clothes and cape, he looked at me with confusion.
"Who’s this?" he asked Lucian.
The deep bite mark on Lucian’s arm quickly healed by itself, but there had already been a lot of blood dripping from his arm.
He grabbed my arm and said, "He’s Alpha’s breeder."
"Really?" Kylo looked at me and said, "There seems to be too much bloodshed for a breeder."
"The fighting is over." Lucian said, "Three rounds have passed and the rogue was still alive."
"I could have bitten him to death if it wasn’t for this little breeder." Kylo wiped the blood stain from his chest with a towel and threw it to the soldiers.
"He could have slashed your throat open if it wasn’t for the girl." Lucian stared at him and said.
Kylo touched his throat.
There was a long, thin wound all the way across his throat.
If it was half-inch deeper, Kylo’s airway would have been sliced.
He would have already been dead.
He started at the rogue and said, "Let Alpha decide. Where’s Alpha anyway? He disappeared halfway into the feast."
Lucian looked at Kylo said, "When Alpha’s away, I decide for him. This rogue stays. Do you have any problem with that?"
Unlike Alpha Lucas, Lucian had a very special way of deterring people.
He was always quiet and calm. He did things with authorities and he was never angry.
Kylo immediately withdrew and bowed a bit, "No, my Prince. The rogue stays as your command."
"Take the rogue to his tent." Lucian said to the soldiers and turned to me.
"You, come with me." he said.
