The force at which the bedroom door was thrown open had Lexi vaulting off the bed and ready to launch an attack on whoever came through the door.
As she raised her arms with a vicious snarl on her face, Greyson and Allen froze in the doorway with looks of abject apprehension on their faces as they yelled frantically.
"Lexi, wait! It's us!"
A wave of cold relief washed over her as the realization set in that she wasn't actually being attacked, it was just her mates returning.
She felt her shoulders sag as she lowered her arms and tried to force her heart rate to slow down, pushing down the energies that her souls had reacted with, and swore loudly at them.
"Seriously! What the fuck is wrong with you both?! Do you want me to turn you into shifter kebabs?!" Lexi roared furiously.
They hurried into the room, closing the door behind them and looked at each other sheepishly.
"We're sorry. I could have been a little less forceful with that." Greyson said, rubbing his neck awkwardly.
"You think?" Lexi snorted disbelievingly as she sank back onto the bed.
"We were just worried about you, that's all." Allen offered in a soothing tone as they both moved towards her.
"How many times do I have to tell you that I can take care of myself?" she snapped testily as she watched them shrug distractedly and begin slowly pacing around the room, looking inside cupboards and under surfaces, behind pipes and even around the door frames.
Lexi raised an eyebrow at them as she crossed her arms in front of her.
"I've packed everything already so I have no idea what you boneheads are looking for," Lexi said gesturing to the carefully packed suitcases at the side of the door before her scowl deepened, "Am I gonna need to get you two committed to an asylum or something? What the fuck are you looking for around the edges of door frames…are you two okay? Did you hit your head?"
They turned and grunted at her distractedly as they continued their sweep and when they were done, they moved across to the bed, pulling Lexi up off the bed and unceremoniously pushing her to the side and going through the sheets as she watched them.
"What…Seriously! Do you want to tell me what's going on?! Or did you somehow turn into fucking sniffer dogs in the short time you were away?"
Greyson stopped what he was doing and turned to glower at her.
"Are you comparing us to glorified pets?"
"I mean... if the cap fits…"
"Don't." He said curtly and resumed what he was doing.
Well, when you two have decided to enter the realm of normality again do you want to give me a fucking call? I can't be around you when you're like this…it's like I'm mated to animals or something." Lexi bit out sarcastically as she threw her hands up in exasperation and made her way towards the door.
As soon as her hand wrapped around the handle, Allen was in front of her, his lips set in a straight line and his expression serious.
"You can't go out. You need to stay in here. With us." He said, prying her fingers from around the handle.
Lexi blinked at him in shock as a disbelieving huff escaped from her lips.
"Did you just forbid me from doing something?"
"Yes." Allen replied simply, "It's for your own good."
Lexi laughed coldly, tossing her hair over her shoulder as she willed herself not to react physically. When she had managed to calm herself down, after exhaling a long breath she spoke.
"Listen, you can either get the fuck out of my way and let me leave, or you can tell me what exactly has got both of your knickers in a twist. If neither of those options sound good to you, I just want to make you aware that there is a very fucking thin line that you are walking and if you cross it, I will not hesitate to move you the fuck out of my way and I'll do exactly as I intended from the start."
"Lexi, I promise that this really is for your own good." Allen said gently, his tone meant to placate her.
"We managed to catch up with my younger brother," Greyson cut in, "He's leaving with us tomorrow."
"The fuck he is!" Lexi objected loudly, rounding on Greyson, "How exactly can you prove that he isn't a threat?"
"You have to trust me. He's exactly as I remember…"
"Or its all a fucking carefully designed act Greyson!" Lexi roared in exasperation, "Have you learnt nothing?!"
"He's gay Lexi!" Greyson snapped suddenly.
Lexi snorted.
"And? What the fuck does that have to do with anything. I'm sure evil gays fucking exist as well, they aren't all sunshine and bastard rainbows!"
"No, you don't understand. The fact that he's gay puts his life at risk. If our father ever found out…well, it wouldn't end nicely, put it that way." Greyson growled, "Leaving with us gives him the freedom to live his life without retribution simply for who he is. He wouldn't betray us for that."
Lexi narrowed her eyes at Greyson and was about to speak before Greyson cut her off.
"And before you object again, he has already put his life at risk for us by revealing Logan and Sebastians plans to have you kidnapped and used as a bargaining chip to cement an alliance with Eromaug."
Lexi paled suddenly and stared at him wide eyed.
"What? Are you sure? How…how have they…" she stammered, struggling to get her words in order as her mind suddenly became constricted with a mind numbing fear.
"Logan has Ely. Narcissa's brother." Greyson said simply as Lexi moved across the room and sank down into the chair at the desk Allen had used for work while they were here.
She stared blankly in front of her deep in thought, as Allen and Greyson began remaking their bed, satisfied that there were no hidden devices anywhere that would cause harm or render them unable to protect Lexi.
"Well," Lexi said suddenly, a bitter laugh rippling from between her lips, "We wanted to find Eromaug…I guess they've done it for us."
