As soon as they had launched themselves through the portal they knew that they had only just made it in the nick of time as the light from the gateway they had entered through, disappeared in seconds and they were plunged into an unsettling darkness.
They were pulled and tumbled through the twisting network of nothingness as if pulled by invisible hands for what felt like an eternity, the cold of this place between worlds chilling them to their bones.
They had both tried to call out to each other in their own ways, Greysons colossal Lycan form fixed with a stricken expression on its face, and Allen's wolf's muzzle opened wide and teeth bared but although they caught sight of each other and understood one another's intent, not a single sound could be heard in this strange place.
Allen's heart was about ready to burst out of his chest. He had tried to shift back to his human form as they fell but it simply wasn't possible here, so until they arrived at their destination, his wolf's legs flailed helplessly in the air as it whined silently to itself.
"We'll be okay Orvar, don't worry." Allen tried to reassure his wolf as his head filled with panicked thoughts that were not his own.
"Are you sure? Because wolves were not meant to fucking fly, hence the reason we do not have wings." Orvar snarled.
"Technically we're falling," Allen quipped without thinking and winced as he received a mental blow to the side of his head as a spike of terror rippled through him that originated from Orvar.
"You're not fucking helping the situation…" Orvar snarled furiously.
"Neither are you with your mental fucking sideswipe! What even was that?!" Allen yelled back at him indignantly.
"No more than you fucking deserve." Orvar snapped, "I told you we shouldn't have left her alone! Greyson could have handled the rest of the preparations by himself, he's not incapable. At least then one of us would have been with her."
"Why is this my fault?! He agreed it was quicker for both of us to finish it off while she slept! How were we to know they were going to pull that fucking trick on her! I didn't even know it was possible!"
"It's OUR job to expect the unexpected and protect our mate!"
"Against her being kidnapped by people who had turned themselves into perfect replicas of us?!" Allen scoffed incredulously, "I'm not that fucking paranoid!"
"It's not paranoia...it's vigilance," Orvar snapped back imperiously.
"Come on…you can't be serious. Even the idea of it seems preposterous."
"Yeah, well, it's not that preposterous because it actually happened didn't it…and look where we are now. You…UFFF"
Orvar's reply was cut short as they came tumbling out of what Allen could only assume was the exit to the portal and they were dumped unceremoniously on top of the stumbling figure of Greyson, sending them both crashing to the floor.
"Do you wanna get off me?" Greyson growled in irritation as Orvar scrambled off him in horror and handed control back to Allen.
Greyson stumbled to his feet as soon as Orvar had removed his considerable weight from off the top of him, and brushed himself down in mild irritation as he waited for Allen to shift.
"Well…it looks like the first thing we need to do is snag some clothes from somewhere." Allen grimaced and as Greyson raised his eyes he snorted at Allen's uncomfortable posture.
"I mean...I don't know. Perhaps you can terrify whatevers down here with just the sight of you in your birthday suit?" Greyson snorted.
"Yeah, real fucking helpful, thanks for that." Allen snapped back as he looked around himself, "Any ideas where we are?"
"I know as much as you do Allen. I arrived literally seconds before you did and you landed on top of me…I've not really had much time to send out a scouting party have I?" Greyson snapped.
Allen scowled as he looked around the nondescript cavern that they seemed to have been ejected into. There wasn't a whole lot of light in here and even though he had far better eyesight in the dark than the average human, it still wasn't enough.
"Well alright then, there's no need to be so irritated. I apologize for landing on you but I really didn't have much choice in the matter. If it's any consolation to you, you didn't soften the landing much." Allen commented dryly with a smirk, "Listen, I can't see shit in here because it's too dark, so I'm going to shift back and let Orvar take control, okay?"
"Suits me fine," Greyson grunted, "At least I won't have to look at your schlong bouncing around merrily while we try and figure this shit out."
"You don't have to look, you know. You can absolutely choose to refrain from looking down there."
"It's a bit hard to miss though, really, isn't it?" Greyson snorted as he turned away, "I can see perfectly fine so it's up to you…although it would probably be prudent considering neither of us know what we're going to be facing down here."
"Well whatever is down here probably won't react well to us being here and I would much rather have both of us capable of putting any attackers down as soon as they appear rather than having to rely on my reflexes when they're in close proximity." Allen grumbled as he passed control back to Orvar who begrudgingly took control.
Orvar shook his fur out and snuffed at the air, before lowering his nose to the ground and freezing momentarily before padding off in the opposite direction that Greyson had been wanting to head and pausing, huffing impatiently in his direction.
"Seriously? Are you doing this just to spite me?" Greyson snorted.
Orvar narrowed his eyes in his direction and snuffed at the floor again before tossing his head in the direction that he wanted to go.
With a heavy sigh, Greyson threw his hands up in the air and shook his head.
"Alright then, fine. We'll try your way first." He agreed reluctantly, walking in silence for a little while down the stone corridors, looking for anything that might give them an idea of where Lexi might be.
"You seem pretty set on your direction anyway," Greyson smiled wryly as Orvar huffed in response, "I'm assuming you've picked up something that I haven't amongst the rest of the scents here."
Orvar huffed again and rumbled in his chest pausing to sniff at the floor and look back at Greyson. If he didn't know better, he would think that this wolf was looking at him like an imbecile.
"Alright fido," Greyson scoffed as he shook his head, "I get it. You're taking a leaf out of Lassie's book and following the clues. Do you want me to call you a good boy and pat you excitedly?"
Orvar stared at him steadily for a second before he rolled his eyes and carried on down the passage way, leaving a perturbed Greyson watching him in disbelief.
"Wait…did you just roll your fucking eyes at me?!"
