I Wanna Ruin Our Friendship

A Future Slipping Away

Ch. 51 / 162 Apr 09, 2026

Emma’s POV

Miss Emma Carter,

We regret to inform you that due to your recent academic performance, your scholarship eligibility has been revoked.

The words blurred as I stared at the screen. My chest tightening as I re-read the email, hoping I’d misunderstood, but the words didn’t change. It was all there in cold, unemotional detail—my slipping grades, missed assignments, and lack of participation. Everything I had been avoiding, everything I’d thought I could make up for, laid out in stark black and white. The future I’d been counting on—college, escape, freedom—was slipping through my fingers.

I was screwed.

When I told my parents, their reactions were exactly what I feared. My mom stared at me, her lips pressed into a thin line, while my dad paced the living room, his voice growing louder with every word.

“How could you let this happen, Emma? We’ve been counting on that scholarship! You know we can’t afford tuition without it.”

“I—” I tried to explain, but the words caught in my throat. What could I say? That I’d been too distracted by Caleb, by Vanessa, by the chaos I let consume me?

“All those late nights, those ‘study sessions.’ Was this what you were doing?” my mom asked, her voice trembling. “Do you even care about your future?”

I couldn’t defend myself. They weren’t wrong.

“This behavior stops now, Emma. Do you understand me?” my dad said, his tone turning strict. “You’re going to meet with your schoolmaster, and you’re going to do whatever it takes to get back on track.”

The meeting with the schoolmaster was even worse. I sat in his cramped office, the walls lined with books and motivational posters that suddenly felt mocking. He was a wiry man with thin glasses and a sharp gaze that seemed to see through every excuse I’d ever made.

“Emma, you’ve always been one of our top students,” he said, folding his hands on the desk. “But your recent performance has been... disappointing. Your teachers have reported a lack of focus, missed deadlines, and even an absence from important assignments. That’s not what we expect from someone in your position.”

I swallowed hard, my cheeks burning. “I know. I’ll do better. I—I’ve just had a lot going on.”

I felt like I was drowning, unable to come up with anything that would convince him—or myself—that I could fix this.

“You have the potential to turn this around. But it’s going to require focus and discipline. No more distractions, Emma. If you want to rebuild your future, you need to start taking this seriously. Understood?”

I nodded, my throat tight. “Yes, sir.”

“It’s about whether or not you’re serious about your future. Because right now, it doesn’t look like you are.”
