Emma’s POV
“Someone saw them sneaking into the gym together. I didn’t want to believe it, but... Emma, I think you need to find out for yourself.”
My hands shook as I stood, my heart racing. I hated how easily the doubt crept in, but after everything with Caleb and Vanessa, I couldn’t ignore it. I headed straight for the gym, my steps quick and purposeful.
When I reached the equipment closet, I heard voices inside. Low, muffled, but unmistakable. My heart pounded as I pushed the door open.
And there they were.
Vanessa was pressed against the wall, her hair a mess, her lips swollen. Caleb was leaning into her, his hands on her waist, their clothes disheveled. They froze when they saw me, Vanessa’s smirk creeping onto her face as Caleb’s eyes widened in panic.
“Emma—” Caleb started, stepping toward me, but I held up a hand to stop him.
“Don’t,” I said, my voice cold. “Just... don’t.”
I turned and walked away, ignoring his shouts as he followed me down the hall. My chest felt like it was caving in, but I refused to let him see me cry.
By the time I reached the parking lot, Caleb caught up to me, grabbing my arm. “Emma, wait! It’s not what you think.”
I yanked my arm free, glaring at him. “Really? Because it looked pretty clear to me.”
“It didn’t mean anything! I was just—”
“You were just what?” I snapped. “Proving Vanessa right? Making me look like a fool?”
“Emma, I—”
“Save it. I’m done, Caleb. I’m done with you, with her, with all of this.”
His face fell, but I didn’t care. I turned and walked away, my chest tight but my resolve stronger than ever.
