Dylan
Early next morning.
I jerked up on my bed in panic when my hand felt a empty space beside me.
Cherry was gone!
So was our bond! I couldn't feel it again!!
Fear and rage rose inside me as my eyes swept across the room.
Until a note on the bedside table attracted my attention. On top of it was a cup of milk in my favorite cup.
“It wasn't a dream, Dylan. Our mate was here with us last night.” My wolf confirmed my guess.
Feeling a weight off my mind, I sat back on the bed and began to read the note.
It was left by my mate indeed.
“Good morning, love. I had a good time last night. But I had to leave before the sun rises. Enjoy the milk and have a nice day. PS: it could go cold if you lie. Love, your one true mate.”
I found myself giggling as I sipped on the milk.
“It's not a dream. You were here,” I told myself when the fragrance of milk burst in my mouth.
"Morning, Cecile!" As I was putting the cup back onto the table after finishing the milk, Bert's voice sounded downstairs.
He must be worried about me a lot, since I hadn't talked to him after he dropped me off yesterday.
“Any news about Cherry—oh my eyes! What the fuck! Why aren't you even in your pyjamas?” Bert turned around quickly as he barely pushed open the door of my bedroom.
“Get dressed up! I'll wait for you in your office!” He then stormed out in embarrassment.
In a good mood because of what happened last night, I was humming while going to meet Bert in my office.
He simply shot an unfriendly glare at me, probably traumatized after seeing me naked back in the bedroom.
"Do you mind explaining what the hell is going on now?" Bert shot an unfriendly glare at me.
"About what?" I didn't get his exasperation in the first place.
"Stop playing dumb, Dylan. Your room reeks of sex! You definitely fucked someone last night! How could you cheat on Cherry when she's still missing after fighting to protect our pack?!"
"Ha ha ha!" I burst into laughter after hearing Bert out. "Is that why you're mad about me?"
"Shouldn't I?"
"Well, I have to argue about this—" I was so in a good mood to play a joke on him but got interrupted.
"Come off it! You couldn't just betray Cherry again when you're on your sane mind now!"
"Hey listen, buddy!" Realizing that Bert was getting serious, I reached out to block his way when he was about to leave in rage and disappointment.
"She was here with me last night." Looking into his eyes, I told Bert earnestly.
"She? Who? Cherry? She's back? Where is she now?" Surprised at this news, Bert became excited right away.
"She's back with Nuu-Chah now."
"What's that supposed to mean?" He looked at me with a puzzled frown.
"Hope Cherry will be back soon." Bert heaved a sigh of relief after I walked him through what had happened last night.
"She will." I nodded to Bert. "Now that everything's back in order with Starsmoon, it's time we get back to focus on the pack stuff. Our shifters have suffered so much over the past few months."
"I miss those good old days when we burned the midnight oil together, especially when you tried to win Cherry back from Berlin." Bert mused when his eyes suddenly lit up.
"How about we give Cherry's shop in Seattle a complete renovation? You know design has always been an important in her life. But she barely had time for it because all those ups and downs in our pack."
"Good idea! With this complete renovation, we'll all be saying goodbye to those terrible days and starting a new chapter of life." I got excited about Bert's propsal as well.
"Yes. And we can show her around when she's back here on next fullmoon night! Maybe this would do good to her recovery."
"Although we have only one month to do that, we must make it as perfect as we can." Finally, I'd be able to do something to help bring my mate back.
“Sure! Then I'm off to make some calls to make that possible." Bert rushed out of my office in excitement. "And I'll tell Maisy about this, too.”
One month later.
It was a fullmoon night again.
I paced back and forth nervously in our room, waiting for the fullmoon to rise above the horizon and my mate to show up. I couldn't wait to show her around the renovated shop and see the surprise on her face.
Eight o'clock.
Nine o'clock.
...
It was already past twelve o'clock midnight. My forehead started to melt in confusion as Cherry hadn't show up yet.
“She should've been here by now." My wolf purred restlessly. “She can't possibly be late, Dylan.”
“Shhh! Shut it, okay? She promised that she'd see me on fullmoon nights, and she would do that!”
I sat on the sofa and tapped my feet against the floor even more anxiously.
“She'd be here soon. I'll just have to be patient and wait for her a little bit longer. Cherry knows I'll be waiting for her. She'll surely show up.”
The whole night, I kept convincing myself that my mate would come back to me , until the first glow of sunrise shone on the floor through the window.
I realized that Cherry didn't come!
Frustration, worries, disappointment...all sorts of emotions were devouring me for a moment, but I soon calmed down.
My wolf was surprisingly quiet, too.
