Fern's Perspective
Bright moonlight streamed through the cracks in the heavy curtains around my bed, jolting me awake from slumber. My wolf— the other side of my inner being— felt a pang of pain that I couldn't ignore, forcing my eyes open.
I sat up quickly, adjusting my breathing, and listened to the night's silence. Just then, there was a sharp knock at the door, making my heart race with anticipation of impending trouble.
"Fern, open the door!" Beta Tobias's voice came through, laden with anxiety and panic.
I hastily threw on my coat and opened the door. "What's wrong?"
"Alpha Giovanni has been attacked," worry etched on Beta Tobias's face. "We need your help. He's badly injured."
My heart sank at the news. Giovanni was not just the Alpha but my mate, even if our relationship was born out of his revenge plot. Deep down, I couldn't forget the kind man Giovanni used to be when he was my brother.
I followed Beta Tobias quickly as he led me to Giovanni's room, a million thoughts racing through my mind. Who would dare to attack Giovanni, the Alpha of the pack?
As I pondered, I turned to Tobias. "What happened?"
Tobias frowned, his eyes reflecting mixed emotions. "When I found Giovanni, he was lying in Aurora's quarters, covered in blood and wounds." He took a deep breath. "Through our psychic link, I learned everything. Aurora betrayed him, joined forces with another man, and together they attacked Giovanni. She even launched a sneak attack herself."
Anger and pain surged through me at his words.
"That treacherous woman!" My wolf growled softly. Because of the mate bond, Giovanni's serious injury weakened my wolf rapidly. My wolf suffered greatly, all because Giovanni had mistakenly trusted Aurora. I understood my wolf's anger and resentment.
I knew Aurora had always been Giovanni's love, and I was just a tool of revenge to him. But now, Giovanni was in danger, and I had to decide whether to save him or not.
My heart was filled with struggle.
Giovanni, once my brother, we were once close. As fated mates, I couldn't help but be attracted to him, but our relationship was filled with pain and deceit.
Giovanni's indifference and vengeance towards me had pierced my heart over and over again, and now, was I supposed to save this man who had hurt me?
It filled my heart with contradictions and conflict.
"Why save him?" My wolf whispered in my mind, "He's not even worth it."
"If I don't save him, you might die too," I retorted, though there was another reason vaguely inside me that drove me to save him, but I didn't know what it was.
When I reached the room, I saw Giovanni lying on the bed, pale and breathing weakly. Beside him stood several other werewolves, all wearing the same look of worry and tension on their faces. I stepped forward and examined his injuries, realizing that he had deep and potentially fatal wounds that needed immediate treatment, especially the dagger that was stuck in his heart.
"It seems Aurora is really determined to get him killed. What a ruthless woman!" My wolf said sarcastically, glancing at the dagger lodged deep in Giovanni's heart.
I ignored my wolf and silently closed my eyes, beginning to chant an ancient healing spell. I placed my hands on Giovanni's wound and tried to use my powers to stop the bleeding and heal him.
However, I soon realized that Giovanni's injuries were too severe, and my healing powers alone didn't seem enough to save his life.
It was then that a bold idea surfaced in my mind. I knew how important Giovanni was to the pack, and that I was linked to his destiny.
If I could convince him that we loved each other, maybe it would bring about some kind of miracle, strengthen Giovanni's power, or even change the fate of the whole pack.
My mind was filled with turmoil.
While I hesitated, Giovanni's breathing grew weaker, and it was evident that his life was slipping away. Finally, I made up my mind, but that was when my wolf suddenly let out a low growl, forcing my hand to stop mid-air.
I knew my wolf was protecting me, not wanting me to invest more in this man.
"Relax, don't worry about me. And I swear I'll bring back the dignity we lost before Giovanni," I soothed my wolf and winked at her.
I walked toward the windowsill and looked up at the moon hanging high in the sky outside. "Dear Moon Goddess Nuu-Chah," I murmured reverently in my mind, my resolve firm. "I ask for your help. Please give me the strength to convince Giovanni that he and I truly love each other."
At the sound of my plea, a mysterious power began to converge around me, and a mystical aura filled the air. The moonlight grew brighter, as if the whole room was enveloped in divine light.
"Fern," a gentle and mysterious voice rang out in my mind, the voice of Nuu-Chah, the Moon Goddess. "Your wish can be granted, but remember that wishing doesn't really make one's wishes come true, and it is those who truly love each other who will find their way to one another."
Before the words left my mouth, I felt warmth infuse my body. With confidence and determination in my heart, I continued to cast the healing spell for Giovanni. This time, I felt an unprecedented power as the wounds on Giovanni's body began to heal, and his breathing gradually stabilized.
Suddenly, I felt a wave of dizziness, and my consciousness was quickly pulled into an unfamiliar space.
