“I’ll sort that,” Jasper said when Jack ended the phone call.
“What would you guys do without me?” Jack called. “I’m fucking amazing, I am.”
“Don’t push it,” I muttered. “Right, crisis aborted, I’m going to get changed.”
“Be ready in 10?” Jasper said.
I rolled my eyes but nodded. “See you then.”
My palms were sweaty and I was pacing outside the room where Adam was being held. I had been here for 10 minutes. I so badly wanted to go in, but at the same time, I didn’t want to hear what he was going to say.
He was going to choose Rob.
“Fuck it,” I sighed and pushed the door open, walking in suddenly, surprising Adam.
“Daisy, what the hell?” Adam gasped and sat up in his chair. His hands were handcuffed to the table. “Shit, are you okay? It was Jasper, the little dickhead-”
“Adam,” I said gently. “I know.”
“We have to get out of here-”
“Adam.” My voice was firm.
Adam frowned. “What did you say?”
“I know it was Jasper that took you.”
“Did he kidnap you as well?”
I couldn’t help but smirk. “Not recently.”
“Daisy, what the fuck are you talking about?” Adam demanded. I could see his brain working over everything, putting pieces together. The look of betrayal he gave me next told me that he had figured it out. “You’re working for them.”
“Listen to me, let me explain,” I said quickly, I had to get him to understand before he got angry.
“Fucking hell, Daisy!” Adam exclaimed. “How could you!”
“It’s not what it seems!” I said. “Adam, you’ve got to let me talk-”
“How the fuck could you do this! I know you didn’t like being at the Agency, but this is too far! After everything Rob has done for you! We’re family!”
“Family means nothing!” I snapped and slammed my hand on the table. “It’s fucking bullshit! Don’t you dare defend Rob until you know the truth!”
Adam paused, narrowing his eyes slightly. “What do you mean?”
“Will you shut up and listen or will you be an ass and yell at me?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
“You’ve got 30 seconds,” Adam growled.
“Rob isn’t my father,” I said.
“Daisy, you never stop reminding him of this,” Adam snapped.
“I know who my father is,” I said. “Rob never ‘saved’ me from a bad situation. He is the bad situation.”
“You’re making no fucking sense. What bullshit has this Agency been telling you?” Adam scoffed.
“Rob is my uncle. By blood,” I said. “He kidnapped me when I was a child, he kidnapped me from my real family, his brother.”
“This is a load of bollocks, Daisy,” Adam said and rolled his eyes.
“Adam, you know Rob. You know what he’s like,” I said slowly. “Would you believe me if I told you he was the reason I was attacked? The reason I was raped?”
Adam froze. “Daisy, I know you have a grudge against dad, but this is taking it a bit too far.”
“He’s not my dad!” I exclaimed. “That man is nothing to me! He hired that man to attack me! He did it so I’d want to be an agent again. So I’d want to kill again! Adam, you’ve got to believe me! I could come up with a much better scenario if I was lying to you, but I’m not! He’s the bad guy. He sent us here to take down this rival agency when really he just wants to take down his brother- my dad!” I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair. “Adam, please. You need to believe that I’m telling the truth.”
“Rob lies about a lot,” Adam said slowly. “I’ve noticed this over the years.” Adam paused and caught my eye. “He lies about family.”
I frowned. “What do you mean?”
“He said he adopted you and me,” Adam said. “But that’s not true. I’ve known it not to be true for a few years.”
“Adam, now you’re the one not making sense.”
“He’s blood,” Adam said. “He’s my blood.”
I gasped quietly. “Fuck. How do you know?”
“I had my suspicions,” Adam shrugged. “The way he was with you and me, he treated us differently.”
“You mean you were his favourite,” I said and rolled my eyes.
“I did a DNA test,” Adam said. “Biologically he’s my father.”
“What the hell?” I whispered. “But why would he lie about that?”
“Why does he do anything?” Adam scoffed.
“Adam,” I said softly. “Do you believe me?”
“Tell me everything from the beginning,” Adam said. “I need to know everything.”
“You’re going to need to choose,” I said. “We’re going to take Rob down, and it’ll either be with or without you.”
Adam sighed. “Family is a funny thing,” he said. “And, Daisy, you’re my family.”
I raised my eyebrow. “What are you saying?”
“Give me all the information,” Adam said. “Tell me everything, and then I’ll help you take him down.”
“Fucking hell, I wasn’t expecting you to say that.”
“This makes us cousins,” I said an hour later. “God, I actually have your blood in my veins.”
Adam narrowed his eyes. “You’re so lovely, aren’t you?”
I smiled.
“So, what’s your plan?” Adam asked.
“Are you actually on our side?” I asked seriously.
Adam nodded slowly. “Daisy, I wasn’t blind to what Rob was like,” he said. “And what he did to you... That’s unforgivable. I will always choose your side. You may be extremely unpredictable and you may act without thinking... all the time, but, you’re not stupid. You know right from wrong. You do the right thing. I’ll always stand by you.”
I blinked. “I really wasn’t expecting you to stand with me,” I said honestly. “I thought you’d choose Rob like Blake did.”
“What?” Adam said. He raised his eyebrows. “Blake chose Rob?”
“Yep,” I muttered.
“Are we talking about the same Blake?” Adam demanded. “No, that can’t be true. Daisy, you were closer than family to him. He didn’t always show it, but you meant the world to him. I can’t believe he would choose Rob.”
“Rob did save him from his old life,” I said.
“I know, but if Blake was going to be loyal to anyone, I would’ve put my money on you,” Adam frowned.
“Let’s not talk about Blake,” I said. “Shall I tell you the plan?”
Adam nodded. “Can you get me out of these first?” He pulled at the handcuffs that bound him to the table.
“Give me a second,” I said and stood up. I walked to the door and opened it, seeing Jasper waiting outside, leaning against the wall with a bored expression on his face. “Keys?”
Jasper nodded and pushed himself off the wall, he walked past him and up to Adam. “Any funny business and I will fuck you over,” Jasper warned, his voice cold, as he uncuffed Adam’s hands.
“Who the hell do you think you are?” Adam scoffed.
“I’m her brother,” Jasper snapped.
Adam raised his eyebrows. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
“You may think you’re high and mighty, but I can have you back in these in seconds,” Jasper warned, raising the handcuffs.
“Oh, you could try, squirt-”
“Adam!” I said sharply. “Cut it out, and Jasper shut the hell up and help me tell Adam the plan.”
