Beth raised an eyebrow and winked. “Hope you didn’t waste all your energy.”
I groaned and laughed. “Not what I meant, idiot.” I made my way over to my bag and changed into comfortable clothing and a pair of boots. I plaited my hair away from my face and tied it back. I couldn’t afford to get blinded by stupid stray hairs flying into my face.
After slipping numerous knives into my boots and trousers, I slotted my gun into my waistband and turned to Beth. She was staring at me with wide eyes.
“I would not want to mess with you right now,” she whispered.
I noticed Emma swallow out of the corner of my eye. “Let’s go bring this son of a bitch down.”
“Keep it down!” Eli said lowly as all of us made our way through the hotel.
“If any of the teachers catch us lot sneaking out we’re toast,” Adam snapped. “So, step quieter, dipshits.”
“Take your own advice,” Jasper grumbled. Adam turned to glare at Jasper who raised an eyebrow. “Yes?”
“Just move, you shit,” I muttered and pushed Jasper ahead of Adam before he lost his temper. I rolled my eyes at Jasper who smirked slightly.
“Do not give him a reason to punch you,” I said quietly.
“He wouldn’t be able to get close,” Jasper shrugged.
“I bet he would,” I said. “He was the only other person apart from Blake who trained me. He’s good.”
“But you’re better.”
“You’ve never seen Adam in a fight. How would you know?”
“I’ve seen him spar, and he may have been better than you once upon a time, but not anymore. So, like I said, he would be able to get close.”
“What about me?” I asked curiously. “Would you say the same?”
Jasper pursed his lips. “I’ve only ever fought you twice, and one of those times it was you against my whole team so that doesn’t count. And judging by the other time... no I wouldn’t say the same.”
“I guess growing up with Rob had some perks,” I muttered. “Actually, no, fuck that. It didn’t.”
“You won’t have to worry about him for much longer,” Jasper murmured and we made it outside the hotel.
“Okay, guys lets be quick we don’t want to cause a scene,” Adam said. “You all know what you’re doing, but make sure to not get caught. This town is covered with agents and we do not want to look suspicious. Get anywhere you need to go on foot or public transport and keep your faces hidden. Daisy, Beth, Jack, Mason, and Eli, this applies especially to you. You are the only people who had regular exposure to Rob over the years. It’s you he’s going to notice first.”
“Bring it on,” I whispered and pulled my black cap onto my head.
“If anyone runs into a problem you send this burner phone,” Eli raised a cheap phone, “an SOS message with your group number, and head to your evac location. We’ll come to you from there.”
“Any last questions?” Jasper called.
Silence.
“Then we’ve got an agency to bring down.”
I was leaning against his red car when Hunter walked out of his house. He shared it with others, but we made sure that they weren’t in. Hunter stopped in his tracks when he noticed me and I wiggled my fingers. “Fancy seeing you here, dickhead,” I said politely.
“I thought you were on a mission,” Hunter said cautiously, approaching me warily. I didn’t blame him for being cautious, there was no explanation as to why I was here. I wasn’t meant to be.
“I am,” I said.
“Then what the hell are you doing here?” He asked.
“We need to have a chat,” I said and raised my eyebrows when I saw him discreetly typing on his phone that he was trying to hide behind his back.
“Ah, ah, ah,” Eli called and walked around the corner, revealing himself to Hunter. Eli pushed his jacket aside to show his gun. “Put your hands up, now, or it won’t be Daisy putting a bullet through you this time.”
Hunter sighed and raised his hands. Eli grabbed the phone out of his hands, reading the message. “Rob is the last person we want to be in contact with,” Eli tutted. “Come on, man, let’s go have a little talk. We’ve got something to tell you.” After patting Hunter down, checking for weapons, Eli turned on his heel and walked back down the path.
“Off you go,” I said and nodded my head in Eli’s direction. “I get trigger happy when I’m left waiting,” I warned.
“Why are you such a bitch?” Hunter muttered and followed Eli down the path.
“I dare you to live my life and turn out better than me,” I said under my breath and rolled my eyes as I walked behind Hunter. We took him down a back alley, out of public view.
“What the fuck is going on?” Hunter demanded when he saw Beth, Tom, and Jasper. “Tom, man, what are you doing? Who’s this dude?” Hunter looked at Jasper who was staring at Hunter with narrowed eyes.
“Hunter, this is Jasper,” Tom explained.
“And this is the dick that tortured you, isn’t it?” Jasper said, looking at me.
“One of them, but yes,” I nodded.
“You little-” I jumped in front of Jasper and grabbed his shoulders, pushing him backward.
“Don’t,” I said firmly. “We need him, regardless of what he’s done in the past.”
“What the hell is your problem?” Hunter snapped, glaring at Jasper.
“Jasper!” I shouted when he lurched forward. I forced him back. “Stop it!
“Hunter, we need to tell you something,” Tom said, eyeing Jasper warily.
“I will hurt you if you do anything stupid,” I warned Jasper and let go of him.
“I can hurt him before you can hurt me,” Jasper said, but he took a step back and crossed his arms over his chest.
“He’s good,” I told Tom. “Carry on.”
“We need to tell you something about Rob,” Tom said, “and it’s going to be quite hard to believe.”
Hunter frowned and he looked at me. “I’m listening,” he said and nodded his head.
I took a deep breath. “Right, well where do I start...”
“This is going better than I thought,” Tom said six hours later. We had stopped at a cafe in town that had no CCTV. We were taking a moment to go through our list and see how many more agents we had left to get to.
“You’ve jinxed it now, idiot,” Eli muttered and rolled his eyes.
“I have not,” Tom argued.
“You most probably have,” Beth agreed.
“See, even your girlfriend agrees,” Eli shrugged.
“She’s not my girlfriend!” Tom blushed.
“Oh, yeah, you cheated on her,” Eli said and snatched the list from my hand, looking down at it.
I whistled and nudged Eli. “Low blow,” I said into his ear, but couldn’t help but chuckle slightly.
“He shouldn’t cheat,” Eli said and crossed through the name of the most recent agent we had spoken to.
Tom was right, however, it was going well. Hunter had been surprisingly easy to convince to join us. After explaining everything to him he had looked at me and said, “you’re 100% behind this? You want to take down the man who raised you?”
“Yes,” I had replied.
“I never had a problem with you, Daisy. Your beef was with Kent, but I’ve always respected you,” Hunter went on to say.
“Really?” I asked.
Hunter nodded. “You’re loyal, Daisy. You put your trust in people fully until they give you a reason not too. You wouldn’t be going against Rob if you weren’t 100% sure it was the right thing to do. As reckless as you are, you always do the right thing,” he had said and then raised an eyebrow.
“You’re saying all this after I shot you?” I then asked in disbelief.
“Sometimes you need a bullet in your flesh to make you realise you’ve been a bit of a dick,” he admitted shamefully.
“A bit?” Eli had said and we then went on to explain the plan.
The other agents we had spoken to were easily convinced. It seemed that Rob wasn’t as good of a leader as he thought. Lots of agents had their doubts about him that we were proving to be true.
“How many more people do we have on our list?” Jasper asked, leaning across the table to read the list Eli was holding.
“Three,” he said. “These three should be easy enough.”
“Brilliant,” I said, reading the three names, “we get to go home.”
JOEY, OLI AND ERIK.
