“Never better,” he muttered.
The door was closed after the agents left and I looked over at Rob, taking a deep breath.
“So, you haven’t killed us yet,” I said. “Why?”
“That is a very good question, young lady,” Rob said and leaned back against his desk.
“I would say it’s because I’m your daughter, but it turns out I’m not,” I said. “What sort of sick bastard are you?”
“It’s in the blood,” Rob said. “You’ve always been a little crazy, haven’t you?”
“Daisy,” Eli grunted when I stepped forward. “Don’t.”
“I should kill you,” Rob said. His eyes flickered to Eli. “Both of you. You’re just like your parents.” Eli stiffened beside me. “A traitor.”
“You killed them, didn’t you?” Eli growled. I remembered Eli telling me his suspicions about Rob murdering his parents who were agents.
“You figured that out, did you?” Rob said. “Yes, I had them killed when I figured out they were planning on running away with you. Abandoning the Agency. The Agency kept an eye on you while you were in foster care until we took you in when you were 12. I hoped you wouldn’t turn out the same way as your stupid parents.”
“Don’t you dare talk about them like that!” Eli shouted.
“Don’t be so angry, you’ll be with them soon,” Rob said dismissively. He looked at me. “You won’t be so lucky to die today..”
“So, what, you’re going to torture me?” I said. “You’ve done that before, remember? What more can you do to me that hasn’t already been done?”
“I don’t plan on doing anything to you,” Rob said, smiling. “It’s your friends and the ones you care about I’m going to hurt. You betrayed me, Daisy, and I’m going to make you pay.”
“You’re a murderer!” I yelled. “You made us kill innocents! You kidnapped me from my real family! You deserve everything you get!”
“Dominic, restrain my... niece,” Rob said to the unknown person in the room. Dominic hesitated. Rob turned to Dominic and raised his eyebrows. “Do I need to repeat myself?”
Dominic narrowed his eyes but shook his head and a few seconds later he was pulling me away from Eli who hissed in pain. Dominic held me tightly and dragged me off to the side of the room.
“You’re going to do as he says?” I said to Dominic. “How can you side with him!”
“Shut up,” Rob said and checked his phone. He smiled and turned to James. “They’ve all been detained.”
I locked eyes with Eli who sighed and shook his head.
“Your ‘army’ you came with was useless,” Rob said. “We have complete control of the Agency, and your fellow traitors.”
“How did you know we were coming?” I asked. “If you weren’t prepared you’d be red mist by now.”
“It’s a good job I was warned then,” Rob shrugged. He dialed a number on his phone and held it to his ear. “Bring them in.”
“How did you know!” I repeated.
“You always had such a temper,” Rob tutted. “Just like your mother.”
“You’re a bastard!” I growled. “Who the fuck told you we were coming?”
“I’ve had quite enough of your shouting, young lady,” Rob said firmly.
“Oh, fuck you!” I yelled. “Uncuff me and you won’t hear me shouting anymore because I’ll strangle you with my bare hands!” I threw myself forward but Dominic was built like a brick wall. He held me firmly in place.
Rob took a deep breath and suddenly there was a loud bang.
I screamed.
Eli was thrown backward.
I was yelling, shouting, screaming. I looked at Rob who was holding a gun in his hands. “Eli!” I cried. He was on the floor. I was on the brink of tears. He wasn’t moving. “Eli, Goddamnit you do not get to die today!”
“I said enough shouting, Daisy!” Rob snapped.
I heard a faint groan and I gasped in relief. “It’s alright, princess, the bastard won’t get me that easily.”
“Oh, thank God,” I whispered. Eli somehow managed to sit up and I saw his shoulder oozing blood. His face was hiding his pain well.
“I never thought you’d cry over me,” he said with a small smirk and I couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Now really isn’t the time,” I sniffed. I could feel tears rolling down my face.
“You better listen to me, young lady, or I’ll just continue to shoot him,” Rob said sternly as the door to his office swung open and my fellow agents were all shoved into the room by Rob’s agents. They were lined up in front of Rob’s desk on their knees. They were all restrained and bloody.
I sighed. Rob had beaten us.
Everyone that was on the mission with us, as well as Adam, we’re all here.
“Welcome,” Rob said. “It’s nice to see those who planned to betrayed me in person.”
“Go fuck yourself, Rob,” Mason called.
“I second that,” Adam said slowly. He raised his head to look at Rob, his father.
Rob stared at Adam for a few seconds. “You’re going to wish you were dead, son.”
“You’re the one who’s going to wish you were dead when we’re through with you.”
“And how on earth do you think you’re going to defeat me now?” Rob asked.
I looked along the line of agents and frowned. “Someone’s missing,” I said.
“Ah, yes,” Rob nodded. “Penny, I think her name is. She was the one who was kind enough to tell me of your plans to kill me. Sweet girl.”
“Why would she do that?” Eli called. “She knows you’re a monster.”
“But she does value her life, and after being threatened to lose it, she agreed to inform me of everything that was happening on your mission.”
“If you’re going to kill us just get it over with,” Beth said loudly. Her voice was strong, confident. My girl had no fear in her voice.
“Shut up!” Emma hissed.
“Oh, you shut up,” Tom snapped, glaring at Emma.
“You won’t get away with doing this,” Adam said. “We managed to turn nearly half of the Agency against you. I’m your son and I want you dead. So what we haven’t succeeded? Richard will still find a way to destroy you, even if you destroy us.”
“You’re no son of mine, Adam, not anymore,” Rob said slowly.
“Do you wish we were more like Blake?” I called. “Do you realise he’s not here? He’s at Richard’s Agency, rotting in a cell because he chose you. He’s the only one out of us that chose you.”
Rob went still and I noticed James reach for his gun. They both looked at me. Actually, they both looked behind me, at Dominic.
“I’m not here by choice,” Dominic whispered in my ear and I felt something get passed into my hands. A key. “Rob, you told me Blake was here. At this Agency.”
Rob faltered and I immediately got to work on unlocking my handcuffs. “He... He is.”
“He most certainly is not, trust me, I know the whereabouts of my brother,” Beth called.
“Bethan?” Dominic said. Beth looked at Dominic and her eyes went wide.
“Dom?” She whispered.
“What the fuck is going on?” I asked.
“You said you had my brother captive!” Dominic yelled.
“Brother?” I questioned.
“I do, so don’t do anything stupid or he’s dead, Dominic,” Rob said slowly.
“You’ve been using that threat for months, and all along he’s not even been here!” Dominic growled and I tensed when I saw James raise his gun and aim it Dominic, but Dominic was quicker and he took the gun out of his waistband and shot James twice, one bullet in the head and one in the heart.
James hit the floor with a thud.
I managed to unlock my handcuffs and I ran forward and snatched the gun out of Rob’s hands. “Okay!” I yelled and looked between Rob, Beth, and Dominic with wide eyes. “What the hell is going on?”
