SEPTEMBER'S POV
"Hurry up." Grace smiled.
I nodded and quickly grabbed a hoddie. As we stepped out, a wave of cold air surpassed making me shiver. I quickly tugged my hands inside the pocket of my hoddie and let out a shaky breath.
"Winter is on it's way, isn't it?" She asked, now rubbing her palms together to generate some heat.
I nodded and with that we both started walking down the lane. The moon was fading in-between the clouds and whole street was asleep in deep silence.
"What if Zach gets to know about this?" I asked.
She shook her head. "I promise, he won't." She said. "Besides, it will be fun. I guarantee you that." She added.
"Okay." I put up a smile.
Soon we reached the place where she wanted me to come. I quickly ran my eyes around and automatically my shoulders relaxed. The sight in front of me was beautiful.
In between never ending trees, there was a small waterfall around which fireflies were dancing.
Grace spotted a huge stone and asked me to sit. Without thinking twice, I grabbed a seat next to her.
"Take a fresh breath and don't worry, I assure you Zach won't mind."
I guess.
I wasn't able to sleep and since Zach was tired, he was long asleep. So I decided to roam here and there in the house and that's when I found Grace planning to go out of the house. When I asked her that where she's going in the midnight, she simply asked me to accompany her and said that it'll be fun. So, that's how here we are.
If Zach finds out that I am not there, he might worry but this place seems quite heart warming.
This sight. Wow.
"So do you come here often?" I asked.
" It's been awhile."
"How do you find about this place?"
"One night I ran away from my parents and somehow came here. This place saved me and since then I often visit here just to remind myself that however fu-ked up my life could be but at least I am alive and that's what matters the most. This place makes me free. The air here is so calm unlike the life I've lived. So, this is kind of an abode for me." She smiled.
I looked at her and nodded. She is very strong. Zach has told me everything about her.
She grabbed her hairs into a messy bun and took cigarettes out of her pocket. My jaw dropped in surprise when she lighted the one and took it between her lips.
"Here, take this." She passed me one cigarette after lighting it.
I shook my head in denial but she assured me to have one.
"This nicotine shit is divine." She winked.
I laughed and decided to go for it.
"So, what's going on between you two?" I raised my eyebrows.
She shrugged her shoulders and looked everywhere but me. "Who two?"
I narrowed my eyes. "You and Chris."
Her cheeks turned red at the mention of Chris.
"We're dating." She answered.
I smiled. "I already knew that. You two are perfect for each other."
"You tell, what's going on between you and Zach?"
And this was my turn to blush.
" I am lucky to have him."
She scanned my face for a second before she pressed her lips into a tight smile. "Can you promise me something?"
"Yes." I replied.
"Always be there for Zach. It's my request. This time you need him but in future when things will change, I hope that you'll there for him when he needs you the most."
Jesus! How many times I've to assure everyone that no matter what will happen, I am not going to leave Zach.
Even if someday I get my memory back, I won't ever leave him.
"I promise."
After that we both sat there for an hour or so talking about anything and everything. She cracked lame jokes and told me about the men she slept with before Chris came. I laughed how she cringed remembering those times.
Suddenly my cellphone buzzed and without even having a look of the caller ID, I knew who it was.
Zach.
I quickly received his call.
"My god, September where the hell are you? Is everything alright?" He spoke the second next I took his call.
I smiled inwardly. He cares too much about me, isn't he?
"Don't worry Zach, I am okay."
"Where are you?" He asked, still sounding concerned.
"I am with Grace. We are at someplace in-between woods and Infront of this beautiful waterfall." I replied.
"Okay, enjoy but don't forget to take care of yourself." He said.
I smiled.
So my Zach is very understanding also? Tell me god, why you made me the luckiest person?
"Okay, I will. Bye."
"Bye, baby girl." And with that he ended the call.
"See, I've told you right?" She wriggled her eyebrows.
My smile went brighter.
"You know Em, Zach was never like this. He used to be a fu-king possessive. If it was old Zach then he would've been pissed." She laughed.
Seriously? Zach and possessive? But ever since I know him, he was nothing but sweet to me. I couldn't picture him any different.
"So which Zach was better? The old one or the new?" I asked, trying to know more about him.
She blew out a smoke and smiled. "Oh, trust me darling, this new Zach is far better."
I wish I could know more about Zach. Like about his childhood, his parents, his life before me. He intrigues me but damn, I couldn't.
Or could I?
I thought of asking Grace all about him. Possibly she could tell me something.
"Umm, Grace." I called out her name.
"Mhmm."
"You know Zach since you all were little kids, right?"
"Yeah."
"How was he in his childhood?"
She crushed the used cigarette and lighted another one. Inhaling a breath, she pointed at the fireflies. "Aren't they beautiful?"
I gave her a puzzled look but without paying any attention to me, she continued.
"They glow bright in the darkness but once the sun shines, they fade in the sky."
I still didn't understood a thing she said.
"There are things to which you're unaware and trust me, I do want to tell you everything but it's not my place to do so. It would be much better if Zachary will tell you by his own."
Zachary? I've heard this name before, haven't I? It feels so familiar to my tongue. Am I hallucinating?
Jesus!
If this was how I am going to answer my mental debate then definitely one day I'll end up being insane.
So instead I decided to ask Grace about it. "Who was Zachary? He sounds familiar."
Her eyes snapped in my direction and a worried look crossed all over her face.
Huh?
"I meant Zach. And no you don't know anyone of that name. It must be your medications causing impacts on your mind. Em, don't stress yourself. You know, sometimes it's okay to not remember anything, sometimes it's okay to forget everything." She panicked.
Uh. Okay.
What happened to her? I just asked her one simple question, there wasn't any need for her to exaggerate like this. I never asked for an explanation then why she behaved like this?
I will never be able to leave Zach even if I get my memories back. But if he doesn't want me to remember anything then it's okay, I don't have any problem with that too.
But what am I going to do with this curiosity? I want to know everything before my mind explodes with my own thoughts.
I have to ask Zach by myself only if I want my mental health to remain stable.
I need to know about my past.
Or Zach's past.
