Bound By Blood

Chapter 9

Ch. 9 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The night had been overwhelming, a tempest of desire and darkness that left her both physically drained and mentally restless. She couldn’t shake the memory of Lucien, of his lips on her skin, of the way he had claimed her so completely. His touch still lingered, a phantom sensation that made her shiver even now. But it wasn’t just Lucien. Almost all of the brothers — Sebastian, Adrian and Raphael too — had all left their mark on her in one way or another, binding her to this place, to them, in ways she couldn’t fully understand.

And yet, there was a sense of dread hanging over her now, a feeling that something dark was about to descend upon the manor. The tension between the brothers had been escalating for days, their rivalry turning from playful to dangerous. She had seen the way they looked at each other, the thinly veiled hostility in their eyes, and she knew that it was only a matter of time before it came to a head.

She had to get out of here. The manor, the brothers, their endless games of power — it was all too much. She had allowed herself to become entangled in their world, to be pulled into their orbit, but now she realized just how dangerous it was. The thought of becoming something that they passed between them, a possession, filled her with a rising sense of horror.

Her heart pounded as she thought through her options. Lucien, Adrian, Vincent, Sebastian or Raphael — they all had their own motives, their own desires. Each of them had shown her pieces of their true nature, but none of them could be fully trusted. The tension between them was only growing more volatile and she could feel the house itself pulsing with an undercurrent of violence, as though it were alive with their ambitions. No, she couldn’t rely on any of them to protect her. Not when they were each vying for control — control over the estate, control over each other, and control over her.

She needed a plan. A way to escape.

Ella wrapped her arms around herself, trying to steady her thoughts. She had no true allies here — only herself. She knew the estate was vast, a sprawling labyrinth of rooms and corridors, many of which she had never seen. But somewhere in this cursed place, there had to be answers. There had to be a way out.

The library. It was the only place she could think of where she might find something — anything — that could help her. Vincent had once told her that the library held the knowledge of centuries, that the books within it contained more than just stories — they held secrets. Secrets about the estate, about the brothers, about the ancient powers that ruled their world. If she could uncover something there, something that might give her an edge, it could be the key to her escape.

But getting to the library undetected wouldn’t be easy. The brothers were always watching, always lurking in the shadows and after night Lucien, he would likely be more possessive than ever. She shuddered at the thought. She had to be careful.

Ella’s heart raced as she navigated the twisting corridors, her mind sharp with the need for escape. She had spent enough time in the manor to memorize its layout, but it still felt like a maze, full of hidden doors and dark corners that could easily lead her astray. She tried to stay calm, focusing on the path ahead, on her goal. Every step felt like a risk, but she knew that if she could reach the library, she might be able to find the information she needed to finally break free of the brothers and their tangled web of power.

After what felt like an eternity, she reached the library doors. She paused for a moment, her hand resting on the doorknob, listening for any sounds of movement behind her. But all was quiet. She pushed the door open slowly, stepping into the familiar warmth of the room.

The library was vast and imposing, its shelves stretching up toward the ceiling, filled with ancient books and scrolls. The soft glow of candlelight illuminated the space, casting long shadows across the polished floors. It was a sanctuary of sorts, a place where the weight of the world seemed to lift, if only for a moment.

But Ella wasn’t here for comfort. She was here for answers.

She moved quickly to the far side of the room, where the older, dustier volumes were kept. Vincent had once told her that the oldest books held the most valuable knowledge, that they contained the stories and histories of their kind — the vampires, their origins, their weaknesses. She had dismissed it at the time, but now, she realized that those stories might be her only hope.

Her fingers traced the spines of the books, pulling out volumes at random, flipping through their yellowed pages. She was looking for something specific, something that might give her a clue about the estate itself — its history, its purpose. She knew the brothers were tied to this place, that their power was connected to the land in ways she didn’t fully understand. But there had to be a way to sever that connection, to weaken them enough for her to escape.

Ella’s eyes scanned the pages, her mind racing as she absorbed the fragments of information. There were mentions of ancient rituals, of blood magic and dark oaths that bound the brothers to the estate. She read of curses and prophecies, of long-forgotten battles for power that had left the land tainted with dark energy. But none of it was enough. None of it seemed to offer a solution, a way out.

Frustration gnawed at her as she pulled another book from the shelf, its cover worn and cracked with age. The title was written in an old language she didn’t recognize, but as she opened it, something caught her eye — a passage about the estate itself. Her heart quickened as she read, her fingers trembling as she turned the pages.

The estate, it seemed, was more than just a house. It was a living entity, bound to the brothers by an ancient blood oath. The land itself had been claimed by their ancestors, its power rooted in the very soil beneath their feet. But there was a way to break the bond — a ritual, long forgotten, that could sever the ties between the brothers and the estate, rendering them vulnerable.

Ella’s heart raced as she read the details of the ritual. It required specific ingredients — items that were rare and difficult to find — but it was possible. It was her only hope. If she could perform the ritual, she could break the bond that held the brothers to the estate. It wouldn’t guarantee her escape, but it would give her a chance — a chance to leave this place behind, to reclaim her life.

Her mind was set. She would gather what she needed, perform the ritual and free herself from the brothers’ grasp once and for all. But she knew she had to be careful. If any of the brothers discovered her plan, she wouldn’t live long enough to see it through.

Taking a deep breath, Ella closed the book and tucked it under her arm. She had the beginnings of a plan, but there was much to do, and she didn’t have much time.

Ella sat at one of the large wooden tables in the library, the heavy tome resting in front of her. Her mind was racing with what she had just discovered. The very air around her seemed to pulse with her newfound determination, but even as she began to outline a plan in her mind, she couldn’t shake the tension that lingered just beyond the quiet walls of the library.

She heard the faintest creak of a floorboard behind her, and before she could react, she felt the familiar presence. It was Vincent, moving silently as always, his energy like a shadow that wrapped around her. She hadn’t heard him enter the room, but now that he was there, she couldn’t help the way her pulse quickened, a mix of fear and something else — something more magnetic.

“Eleanor,” Vincent’s voice was soft, as if he were afraid to disturb the atmosphere that had settled over the library. “What are you doing here so late?”

Ella swallowed, her hands instinctively closing the book in front of her. “I couldn’t sleep, My Lord,” she replied, her voice wavering slightly. She could feel his eyes on her, studying her, searching for the truth behind her words.

Vincent moved closer, his footsteps barely making a sound against the polished floor. He came around to the side of the table, his tall frame casting a long shadow over her. His gaze dropped to the closed book for a brief moment before returning to her, his dark eyes filled with curiosity and something else — something she couldn’t quite name.

There was something different about Vincent tonight, something more intense in the way he looked at her, the way he moved. She had always felt an odd connection to him, a softness that wasn’t present in his brothers, but now that softness seemed tinged with a new kind of hunger.

“I needed to think,” she admitted quietly, her gaze dropping to the floor. She could feel the heat of his body as he stood so close to her, and could smell the familiar scent of sandalwood and leather that always lingered around him. It made her head spin, made it harder to focus on her plan.

“You always find your way here, don’t you?” Vincent murmured, his voice low and smooth.

Ella swallowed hard, trying to steady her racing heart. “It’s quiet here,” she replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Vincent chuckled, a deep, rich sound that sent a shiver down her spine. He moved closer, his eyes never leaving hers. “Too quiet, perhaps?” he asked, his voice dropping to a whisper as he stepped into her personal space, his presence overwhelming.

“Lord Vincent,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “What are you doing?”

He didn’t answer her right away. Instead, he reached out, his fingers brushing lightly against her cheek, the touch so soft it was almost a caress. His eyes flickered down to her lips, then back up to her eyes, and for a moment, Ella thought he might kiss her. But instead, he tilted her head back gently, exposing the curve of her neck.

“I’ve been thinking lately,” Vincent started quietly. “About you. About what you mean to all of us. To me.”

Ella’s breath hitched, her heart pounding in her chest as Vincent’s fingertips brushed against her neck, his touch sending a jolt of heat through her. She could feel his desire, but it was different from the others. It wasn’t as cold or calculating as Adrian’s, nor as dark as Lucien’s or seductive like Sebastian’s.

Vincent’s touch felt almost reverent, as if he were holding back something much deeper.

“What are you trying to say?” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

His eyes meeting hers with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat. “I want to protect you, Eleanor,” he said softly. “But more than that… I want you to trust me. To let me in.”

Ella’s mind raced, her emotions swirling as she tried to make sense of what he was saying. What she felt about Vincent is something deeper than the simple power dynamics that ruled the relationships in the manor. There was a kindness in him that the others lacked, a gentleness that made her feel safe in a way she couldn’t explain.

But there was also a darkness in him, one that lurked just beneath the surface, waiting to be unleashed.

Vincent reached out again slowly, his fingers brushing a stray lock of hair away from her face. His touch was gentle, reverent even, and it sent a shiver through her. “You’ve been through so much,” he said, voice almost a whisper. “And yet, you’re still standing. You’re stronger than you realize, Eleanor.”

Ella met his gaze, her heart skipping a beat at the intensity in his eyes. There was a raw honesty in his words, a sincerity that made her chest tighten. But behind that sincerity was something else — desire. It flickered in his gaze, dark and smoldering, and Ella could feel the tension building between them, an invisible thread pulling them closer.

“Lord Vincent, I…” she began again, but he silenced her with a soft touch to her lips, his thumb brushing against them in a way that made her pulse race.

“Shh,” he whispered, his eyes locked on hers. “You don’t have to explain anything to me. I can feel what’s inside you — your fear, your confusion… and something else.”

Ella’s breath caught in her throat as Vincent leaned in closer, it sent a shiver down her spine. His lips hovered just above hers, his eyes dark with desire. “Let me in, Ella,” he whispered. “Let me show you how much you mean to me.”

She didn’t know what to say, her mind swirling with emotions she couldn’t fully grasp. Vincent’s presence was overwhelming, his closeness made her head spin. She knew she should pull away, should remember her plan to escape, but at this moment, all she could think about was the way his touch made her feel — warm, safe, desired.

“Vincent,” she whispered breathlessly, pulling back just enough to look into his eyes. “Take what you want.”

His eyes darkened with desire, and for a moment, he looked as though he might lose control. But then he smiled, a slow, seductive smile that made Ella’s heart race. He knelt before her, his hands sliding down her legs as he gently lifted the hem of her dress, exposing her bare ankle. His hands cradled her leg as he kissed his way up her calf, his touch light and teasing. When his lips reached the inside of her ankle, just above the delicate bone, he paused, his breath hot against her skin.

“May I?” he asked softly, his voice filled with a reverence that made Ella’s heart flutter in her chest.

Ella hesitated for only a moment before nodding, her pulse quickening as she watched Vincent lower his head, his lips brushing against the soft skin. When his lips reached the sensitive spot, he paused, his breath warm against her skin. Ella’s breath hitched in her throat as she felt his fangs graze her flesh, a mix of fear and anticipation coursing through her. She knew what was coming, but the waiting made it all the more intense.

And then, with a suddenness that made her gasp, Vincent bit down.

The pain was sharp but brief, quickly replaced by a rush of warmth as Vincent began to drink from her. His hands tightened around her leg, holding her steady as he fed, and Ella felt her head grow light, her body sinking deeper into the chair as a strange, heady pleasure spread through her veins. It was unlike anything she had ever experienced — intense and oddly exhilarating.

Her head rolled back against the chair, her breaths coming in shallow gasps as the sensation overwhelmed her, eyes closing as a wave of dizziness washed over her. But it wasn’t unpleasant. In fact, it was the opposite — the sensation of her blood leaving her body and flowing into him. She felt light, almost weightless, her mind clouded with a strange, heady pleasure.

Vincent’s hands slid higher, his touch becoming more urgent, more insistent as he continued to feed. His grip on her ankle tightened as he drank, his body trembling with the effort of holding himself back. He could feel the power in her blood, the way it flowed into him, filling him with a warmth that spread through his veins like wildfire. It was more than just sustenance — it was ecstasy.

Ella’s breathing became shallow, her chest rising and falling rapidly as she felt the life being drawn from her. But despite the fear that lingered in the back of her mind, she couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of peace, of connection. Vincent wasn’t just feeding from her — he was sharing something with her, something deeper than words.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Vincent pulled back, his lips red with her blood, his eyes dark and dazed. He looked up at her with a mixture of awe and something darker — something that made her heart race with both fear and desire.

“Eleanor…” Vincent whispered, his voice thick with emotion. He rose to his feet slowly, his hands sliding up her body as he pulled her to him, his breath hot against her skin. “What are you doing to me?..”

Ella’s breath caught in her throat as Vincent’s words echoed through the space between them, his eyes darkened with a longing that mirrored the ache deep within her. Her body felt light and fragile in the aftermath of his bite, and her mind swirled with emotions she struggled to name. His touch now softened, his hands cradling her face as if she were made of glass. For a moment, the world outside the library vanished, and all that existed was the heat between them, the undeniable pull of their connection.

Vincent lifted her effortlessly, placing her gently on the windowsill between the bookshelves. The cool glass against her back was a stark contrast to the heat of his body as he pressed against her, his lips finding hers in a kiss that was slow and sensual, filled with a desire that made her knees weak.

Ella’s hands instinctively tangled in his hair, pulling him closer as she kissed him back with an urgency she hadn’t realized she possessed. The library, the manor, the brothers — all of it faded into the background as she lost herself in Vincent’s touch, in the way his hands roamed her body with a possessiveness that made her feel wanted, needed.

Her pulse quickened, her body responding to the heat of his touch. She knew she should pull away, should stop this before it went too far, but the temptation was too strong. Vincent’s presence was intoxicating, drawing her in like a moth to a flame.

His lips left hers, trailing down her neck as he kissed his way to her collarbone, his hands sliding beneath thin fabric to caress her bare skin. Every touch, every kiss sent a wave of heat through her, and Ella found herself arching into him, craving more of the connection they shared.

Vincent’s breath was ragged as he pulled back slightly, his forehead resting against hers. “You have no idea how hard it is to stop,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “Your blood… It is like nothing I’ve ever tasted. It’s intoxicating.”

Ella’s back arched as Vincent’s hands explored her body, his touch both gentle and possessive. She could feel the tension in him, the way he held himself back, as if he were afraid of losing control. But she didn’t want him to hold back. Not now.

Her heart raced at his words, body still humming with the aftereffects of his bite. She could see the struggle in his eyes, the way he fought to control himself, and it only made her want him more. She knew she should be careful, that giving in to this desire could lead to dangerous consequences, but at this moment, she didn’t care.

Vincent’s hands moved to her waist, lifting her slightly so that she was sitting fully on the windowsill. His lips found hers again, the kiss deepening as he pressed her back against the glass, his body pinning her in place. Ella’s hands roamed his chest, feeling the strength of his muscles beneath his shirt, the heat of his skin.

Their kiss grew more urgent, more heated, as Vincent’s hands moved to her thighs, pulling her legs around his waist. Ella’s body responded to him with a need she hadn’t realized she was capable of, her mind spinning with the intensity of the moment.

She could feel the warmth of his breath against her neck, the press of his body against hers and the soft brush of his lips as he kissed her skin, tracing the line of her collarbone with a reverence that made her heart ache.

Vincent pulled back slightly, his gaze locking with hers as he cupped her face in his hands. “I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe. No matter what,” he whispered, voice raw with emotion.

Her heart thudded painfully in her chest as she stared into Vincent’s eyes, his gaze so intense, so earnest, that it nearly broke her resolve. For a moment, she felt herself slipping into the fantasy that maybe, just maybe, she could stay — here, with him — and that everything would somehow work itself out. But even as she entertained the thought, the reality of her situation crashed down on her like cold water. The brothers' rivalry, the estate’s dangerous magic, her own fragile position — it all screamed that this world was not a place she could trust. Not entirely.

She tried to speak, but the words tangled in her throat, her emotions too raw and exposed. Vincent was different from the others — his darkness was gentler, more nuanced, and it made her chest tighten with something close to tenderness. The hunger he had shown moments ago was replaced by a vulnerability that made her heart ache.

Ella exhaled slowly, her breath shaking as her hands moved to Vincent’s chest, pressing lightly against him in an effort to create some space between them. He didn’t resist, but the disappointment in his eyes was clear as he reluctantly pulled back, his hands lingering at her waist.

“Vincent,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “I can’t stay here. Not like this.”

He frowned, his hands tightening ever so slightly on her waist. “What do you mean?” His voice was soft but tinged with a hint of desperation. “You don’t need to go anywhere. I told you, I’ll protect you. I—”

Ella shook her head, cutting him off. “It’s not that simple,” she said, her voice trembling. “I’m trapped here, Vincent. I’m caught between you, between Adrian, Sebastian… all of you. And it’s tearing me apart.” She could feel her eyes prickling with unshed tears, but she blinked them away, determined to stay strong.

Vincent’s face softened, his hands sliding up her sides until they rested on her shoulders. “I never wanted that for you,” he murmured, his voice low. “I know what this place does — how it pulls you in, traps you. But Ella, you’re stronger than this. You can fight it. We can fight it together.”

Ella closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath as she tried to steady her racing thoughts. She opened them again, locking her gaze with his. “I’ve found something,” she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. “In the library. I think there might be a way out — a way to break the bond that ties you all to the estate.”

Vincent’s expression shifted instantly, the softness in his eyes hardening into something sharper, more focused. “A way out?” he repeated, his voice low and dangerous. “What do you mean?”

Ella swallowed hard, knowing that revealing this information could change everything. But she couldn’t keep it to herself any longer. She needed to tell him — needed to know if there was any chance he could help her.

“There’s a ritual,” she explained softly. “A way to sever the bond that ties you all to the estate. If I can find the right ingredients, if I can perform the ritual… it could free all of us. It could give me a chance to escape.”

For a moment, Vincent said nothing, his eyes locked on hers as he processed her words. She could see the wheels turning in his mind, the internal battle he was fighting between his loyalty to his brothers and his growing feelings for her. Finally, he exhaled slowly, his shoulders relaxing just a fraction.

“You think this ritual can free us?” he asked, his voice softer now, less accusatory. “Free you?”

Ella nodded. “I don’t know for sure, but it’s the only lead I’ve found. And I have to try, Vincent. I can’t stay here, caught between all of you, not knowing who I can trust. I need to find my own way.”

Vincent’s hands slipped from her shoulders, his fingers brushing lightly against her arms before dropping to his sides. He turned away his gaze from her slightly, it was distant as he stared out the window at the darkened sky. “I won’t stop you,” he said quietly. “If that’s what you want.”

Ella felt her chest tighten at his words, the weight of his decision settling over her like a heavy blanket. She hadn’t expected him to agree so easily, hadn’t thought he would let her go without a fight. But there was something in his voice that told her he was struggling with his own emotions — his own desire to protect her, to keep her close, while also respecting her need for freedom.

She stepped closer to him, her hand hovering just above his arm before she let it fall back to her side. “Thank you,” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.

Vincent didn’t respond immediately, his eyes still fixed on the storm clouds rolling across the sky. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, glanced at her and his expression was unreadable. “If you do this,” his voice carefully controlled, “if you try to break the bond, it could trigger something far worse than you realize. The estate isn’t just tied to us — it’s tied to the land, to the very power that keeps us alive. If you sever that bond… you could destroy everything.”

Ella’s breath caught in her throat at his words. She hadn’t considered that possibility — that her actions might not just free her from the brothers, but could unravel something far darker and more dangerous. “I… I don’t know what will happen,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “But I can’t stay trapped here, Vincent. I have to try.”

He looked at her for a long moment, his eyes filled with a mixture of sorrow and something deeper — something she couldn’t quite name. Then, with a sigh, he stepped forward, his hands cupping her face gently as he pressed his forehead to hers.

“Just promise me one thing,” he whispered, his voice filled with quiet desperation. “Promise me that if it comes to it… you’ll let me help you. I won’t let you face this alone.”

Ella closed her eyes, her heart aching at the intensity of his words. She wanted to promise him, wanted to believe that they could find a way out together. But deep down, she knew that this was something she might have to face alone — something that only she could do.

Still, she nodded, her hands resting on his chest as she whispered, “I promise.”

Vincent kissed her then, his lips soft against hers, filled with an emotion that went beyond desire. It was a kiss of understanding, of acceptance, of a bond that had grown between them in ways neither of them fully understood.

Vincent’s thumb brushed against her bottom lip, his gaze intent as if searching for something in her expression. His voice, when he spoke again, was low and filled with an emotion she hadn’t expected. “I never wanted you to feel afraid of me,” he whispered, his fingers tracing the line of her jaw. “But I can’t seem to stay away, even when I know what it costs.”

Ella swallowed hard, her mind racing as she tried to make sense of his words. She reached up, her hand resting on his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath her fingertips. “I don’t know what this is,” she whispered, her voice shaking. “But I don’t want to be just…a pawn. I can’t be used.”

Vincent’s eyes softened, and he leaned in closer, his lips brushing against her forehead in a tender kiss. “You’re not a pawn,” he murmured, his voice fierce with sincerity. “Not to me. Never to me.”

His words wrapped around her like a balm, soothing some of the raw edges of her fear. She closed her eyes, allowing herself a moment of peace in his arms, her mind briefly free of the dark tension that hung over the manor. But even in his embrace, a part of her couldn’t forget the dangers that lurked around every corner, the power struggles that simmered just beneath the surface.

Vincent seemed to sense her unease and he slowly pulled away, though his hands lingered at her waist, unwilling to fully let her go. He looked into her eyes, searching for something — perhaps reassurance, perhaps a promise that things would be different. But before either of them could speak, a sharp knock echoed through the room, shattering the fragile moment of intimacy.

Ella flinched, her heart leaping into her throat as she turned toward the sound. The door to the library creaked open and Raphael stepped inside, his expression dark and tense. His normally calm, melancholic demeanor was replaced by something more urgent, a storm brewing behind his eyes.

“Vincent,” Raphael said, his voice low and measured. “We need to talk.”

Vincent’s grip on Ella tightened for just a moment before he released her, stepping away from her as if pulling himself back into the role of the collected, powerful vampire she had first known. His expression shifted, hardening into something more unreadable, though his eyes lingered on Ella for a heartbeat longer.

“What’s going on?” Vincent asked, his tone deceptively calm as he crossed the room toward his brother. But Ella could feel the tension radiating from him, could sense the unease that had settled between them.

Raphael glanced at Ella, his gaze softening briefly before he turned his attention back to Vincent. “There’s been an attack,” he said quietly, his voice laced with concern. “An outside force. We’re under siege.”

Ella’s blood ran cold, her body tensing at Raphael’s words. Her mind raced with questions, her heart pounding with a sudden surge of fear. She had known the brothers had enemies — she had heard the whispers in the halls, the rumors of old rivalries and dangerous alliances — but she had never imagined those threats would come crashing down so violently, so soon.

Vincent’s jaw clenched and he turned back toward Ella, his eyes filled with a mixture of concern and something darker. “You need to stay here,” he said firmly, his voice leaving no room for argument. “You’ll be safer in the library.”

Ella opened her mouth to protest, to demand answers, but Vincent was already moving toward the door, his body tense and coiled with readiness. Raphael lingered for a moment longer, his gaze locking with Ella’s, as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words.

“Stay hidden,” Raphael said softly, his eyes filled with worry. “And trust no one.”

With that, he turned and followed Vincent out of the room, leaving Ella standing alone in the vast, dimly lit library. The silence that followed their departure was deafening, her mind reeling from the sudden shift in atmosphere. She felt like a caged animal, trapped in the manor while a storm of violence and betrayal raged just beyond the walls.

She paced the length of the library, her thoughts a chaotic whirl of fear, confusion, and frustration. Her body still hummed from the aftermath of Vincent’s bite, a strange mixture of weakness and energy coursing through her veins. But the peace she had briefly found in his arms was gone, replaced by a gnawing sense of dread.

After what felt like hours, Ella couldn’t stand the waiting any longer. She needed to know what was happening, needed to understand the danger she was in. She made her way to the library doors, her heart racing as she cracked them open just enough to peer into the hallway.

The manor was eerily quiet, the only sound the distant rumble of thunder and the occasional crash of lightning. But there was something else in the air, something that made her skin prickle with unease — an energy that seemed to vibrate through the walls, a sense of impending doom that she couldn’t shake.

Ella slipped out of the library, her footsteps soft and cautious as she made her way through the dimly lit corridors. She didn’t know where she was going, didn’t have a plan, but something pulled her forward, guiding her deeper into the heart of the manor. Her mind raced with possibilities — was the threat coming from within the house? Were the brothers turning on each other or was there something darker lurking in the shadows?

As she rounded a corner, Ella froze. Ahead of her, in the grand hallway that led to the brothers’ private chambers, she saw Adrian standing at the far end. His back was to her, his posture tense and rigid. There was a coldness in the air around him, a palpable darkness that made her heart pound in her chest.

She took a step forward, her breath catching in her throat as she saw who stood across from Adrian — Lucien. He was leaning casually against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest, a smirk playing on his lips. But there was nothing casual about the way he watched Adrian, his eyes gleaming with a dangerous light.

The storm outside the manor grew louder, more violent, as if the heavens themselves were raging in tandem with the escalating conflict inside. Ella stood pressed against the cold stone wall, her heart hammering in her chest. The air between Adrian and Lucien felt charged with dark energy, tension so thick it was nearly tangible. It crackled between them like the lightning that tore through the sky, illuminating their faces in sharp flashes of white light.

Ella knew this moment had been building for days — no, weeks. Ever since her arrival at the manor, the brothers’ simmering rivalry had been growing more intense with each passing day, their gazes lingering on her a little too long, their tempers flaring at the slightest provocation. Now, the powder keg was about to explode, and she was the fuse.

She shrank back against the wall, her breath quickening as she tried to steady herself. She wasn’t supposed to be here — she should have left the hallway the moment she sensed trouble, but now it was too late. Her feet were rooted to the ground, her body frozen in place as she watched the scene unfold. Her mind screamed at her to run, to retreat back to the safety of the library, but her body refused to obey. She couldn’t look away, couldn’t leave, because she was the very reason for this battle.

Lucien’s smirk widened as he slowly pushed off the wall, his movements deliberate and predatory. His black eyes gleamed with a mixture of amusement and something darker — something that sent a chill down Ella’s spine. He took a step toward Adrian, his posture relaxed, but there was a dangerous edge to his stance, like a coiled snake waiting to strike.

“You think you can claim her?” Lucien’s voice was low and mocking, laced with disdain. He tilted his head, regarding Adrian with a cold, almost patronizing smile. “You always think you’re the one in control, brother. But you’re not the only one with power here.”

Adrian’s jaw clenched, the muscles in his neck tightening as he squared his shoulders, his fists balling at his sides. His eyes burned with barely restrained fury as he turned to fully face Lucien, his gaze narrowing. “This isn’t a game, Lucien,” he growled, his voice deep and menacing. “You’ve pushed me far enough. Don’t think for a second that I won’t—”

“Won’t what?” Lucien interrupted, his voice cutting through the air like a knife. He chuckled darkly, the sound dripping with arrogance and contempt. “Kill me? We both know you don’t have it in you, Adrian. You’re too focused on playing the righteous leader, on keeping everything in order. But the truth is, you’re losing control. And Eleanor… she’s slipping through your fingers.”

Ella’s breath caught in her throat, her heart stopping for a moment at the sound of her name on Lucien’s lips. She hadn’t realized it until that moment, but she was the very center of their conflict, the thing that had pushed them both to the breaking point. The brothers weren’t just fighting for power — they were fighting for her.

Adrian’s eyes darkened dangerously, his anger flaring as he took a threatening step toward Lucien. His fists clenched even tighter, and Ella could see the tension in his body, the barely contained violence simmering beneath the surface. “Stay away from her,” Adrian warned, his voice low and dangerous. “You don’t know what you’re dealing with.”

Lucien only smiled wider, his eyes gleaming with dark amusement. He stepped closer to Adrian, his body moving with the fluid grace of a predator, his gaze never wavering. “Oh, I think I know exactly what I’m dealing with,” Lucien purred, his voice dripping with mockery. “And I think you’re underestimating me.”

Ella’s pulse quickened as the tension between the brothers mounted. The air around them seemed to vibrate with the threat of violence, the storm outside intensifying in perfect synchrony with the brewing battle. Rain lashed against the windows and the wind howled like a beast in agony. Lightning flashed, casting harsh shadows on the brothers’ faces, highlighting the fury and darkness that twisted their features.

Ella could feel the pressure building in the space between them, a dark, suffocating energy that seemed to fill the hallway with a sense of impending doom. She knew she should flee, should run and hide before the storm inside the manor erupted into full-blown chaos, but she couldn’t move. She was frozen in place, her mind racing as she watched Adrian and Lucien square off against each other, their rivalry on the verge of exploding into something deadly.

This wasn’t just about her anymore — this was about power. The brothers’ power, their connection to the estate, and the dark forces that were now tearing the manor apart. And she was the key to it all.

She had to make a choice. And she had to make it now.

Ella’s mind raced as she tried to think, trying to figure out who she could trust in the midst of all this madness. Vincent had shown her tenderness, moments of genuine care, but he was caught in his own web of desires, his feelings for her tangled up in his thirst for power. Sebastian had always been a wild card, unpredictable and dangerous, his seduction laced with cruelty. Lucien… Lucien had claimed her in ways that left her breathless, but his darkness was undeniable, an all-consuming force that both terrified and exhilarated her. And Adrian… Adrian was a force of power and control, but beneath it all, there was something deeper — something she couldn’t quite grasp.

The storm of betrayal and violence was closing in on her, and she was running out of time.

With a deep breath, Ella pushed herself off the wall, her heart pounding in her chest as she stepped into the hallway, her legs shaking beneath her. Her decision had been made. She couldn’t stand on the sidelines any longer, watching as the brothers tore each other apart. She had to take control of her own fate.

The brothers turned to her in unison as she stepped into the light, their eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat. Adrian’s gaze was filled with a fierce protectiveness, his eyes burning with a determination to keep her safe at any cost.

“Eleanor,” Adrian said, his voice low and commanding. “Get back. This isn’t your fight.”

But Ella shook her head, her resolve hardening as she looked between the brothers. “No,” she said firmly, her voice shaking but strong. “This is my fight. It’s always been my fight.”

And then, without warning, the manor shook with the force of an explosion.
