Bound By Blood

Chapter 8

Ch. 8 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

Ella felt suffocated. Her heart still raced from the intensity of the last few hours, from Adrian’s touch, his kiss, his fangs in her skin. The memories of their heated exchange left her shaken, but more than that, she was terrified. Terrified of Adrian, terrified of herself, terrified of the house that seemed to pulse with dark secrets.

Vincent stood near the window, his hands clenched into fists as he stared out into the mist-shrouded grounds of Blackthorn Manor. His jaw was tight, his eyes shadowed with guilt and something darker. He hadn’t said a word since they had left the drawing room together, and the silence between them was thick, heavy with unspoken tension.

Finally, unable to bear the quiet any longer, Ella spoke. “Lord Vincent,” she said softly, her voice trembling. “Please, tell me the truth. What’s really happening here? What did you mean when you said everything I thought I knew was a lie?”

Vincent’s shoulders tensed and he turned to face her slowly. His dark eyes met hers, filled with a mixture of pain and conflict. For a moment, he looked as if he was struggling with himself, as if he didn’t want to speak the words that were on the tip of his tongue. But then he sighed, running a hand through his tousled hair and stepped closer to her.

“I’ve tried to protect you,” he said quietly, his voice rough with emotion. “But I don’t know if I can anymore.”

Ella’s heart twisted in her chest, a surge of fear rising in her throat. “What do you mean? Protect me from what? From Duke Adrian?”

“From all of us,” Vincent said bitterly. He took a step closer, his gaze intense as he looked down at her. “This house… this family… everything here is dangerous, Ella. You’ve seen glimpses of it, but there’s so much more beneath the surface. And now that Adrian has marked you…” He trailed off, his fists clenching at his sides. “You're deeper in that than ever.”

The words hit Ella like a blow and she took an unsteady step back, shaking her head in disbelief. “Marked me? What do you mean?”

Vincent’s expression softened slightly, he reached out as if to comfort her, but hesitated before his hand could touch her arm. “When Adrian bit you,” he said, his voice low, “it wasn’t just a feeding. He marked you as his. It’s a claim, a bond that goes beyond blood. It ties you to him, to this house, in a way that’s difficult to explain. You’re truly bound to him now, Eleanor. And the deeper that bond grows, the harder it will be to escape.”

Ella’s breath caught in her throat, her hand instinctively moving to the spot on her neck where Adrian had bitten her tonight. The skin still tingled, a faint reminder of the moment when his fangs had pierced her flesh. She had known, on some level, that this bite had meant more than just a simple feeding. But hearing it spoken so plainly — hearing that she was now bound to Adrian — filled her with a deep, sinking dread.

“I don’t want to be bound to him,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I don’t want any of this.”

Vincent’s jaw clenched and he looked away, his expression darkening with guilt.

“I know,” he said quietly. “But you’re caught in the middle of something much bigger than you realize. Our clan… we’re not just vampires, Ella. We’re part of something ancient, something that’s been in motion for centuries. And now, you’re part of it too.”

Ella stared at him, her mind racing with confusion and fear.

“What are you talking about?” she asked, her voice rising with desperation. “What does Adrian want from me? What is this ‘something’ that I am a part of?”

Vincent hesitated again, his gaze flickering toward the door as if he were expecting someone to interrupt them at any moment. But then, as if making a decision, he stepped closer to her, lowering his voice to a near whisper.

“This house, this family,” he began, “we’re not just any vampire clan. We’re connected to something that’s tied to the very fabric of this world. And Adrian… he’s not only the head of the family, but has been chosen to fulfill a prophecy — a prophecy that requires him to claim someone with a unique bloodline. Someone like you.”

Ella’s heart pounded in her chest as his words sunk in. “A prophecy?” she echoed, her voice barely above a whisper. “What kind of prophecy?”

Vincent looked away, his expression darkening further.

“It’s complicated,” he muttered. “But the gist of it is that Adrian believes your bloodline holds the key to unlocking a power that has been dormant for centuries. A power that could reshape our world. He wants that power, Ella. And in order to claim it, he needs you.”

Ella felt as though the floor had been pulled out from beneath her. Her bloodline? A prophecy? None of it made any sense, but the fear in Vincent’s voice told her that it was real. All of it. She had been brought to Blackthorn Manor for a reason and now she was caught in the middle of something far larger than she could have ever imagined.

“Why me?” she whispered, her voice trembling. “Why am I so important?”

Vincent’s gaze softened, and he reached out to gently take her hand, his touch warm and reassuring. “Because you’re special, Ella,” he said quietly. “You’re more than you know. And that’s why you need to be careful. Adrian isn’t the only one who wants you. My brothers and I… we’re all bound to this prophecy in different ways. And the power that you carry — it could either save us or destroy us.”

Ella’s mind was spinning, her thoughts racing as she tried to make sense of everything Vincent had told her. The brothers wanted her for something she didn’t understand. And now that Adrian had marked her, she was bound to him in ways that went beyond her comprehension. She felt like a puppet, her strings being pulled by forces she couldn’t see.

Tears welled in her eyes as the weight of it all came crashing down on her. “I don’t know what to do,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I don’t know how to escape this.”

Vincent’s grip on her hand tightened, and he pulled her closer, his gaze filled with a quiet intensity. “You’re not alone,” he said softly. “I’ll help you, Eleanor. I’ll do everything I can to protect you.”

Ella’s heart twisted in her chest. She wanted to believe him — wanted to trust that Vincent could somehow save her from the nightmare she had found herself in. But deep down, she knew that he was just as trapped as she was, bound by the same dark forces that held the brothers in their grasp.

“I don’t know if I can trust anyone here,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Vincent’s eyes darkened with guilt, but he didn’t let go of her hand. “You can trust me,” he said quietly. “You have my word.”

Ella’s gaze flickered up to his, her chest tight with a mixture of fear and uncertainty. She wanted to trust him, but the walls of Blackthorn Manor seemed to press down on her, filling the air with secrets and lies. How could she trust anyone in this house when every step she took seemed to lead her deeper into a web of deceit?

But before she could respond, a soft knock echoed through the room, startling them both. Ella’s heart leapt in her chest as the door creaked open, revealing Raphael standing in the doorway, his expression as gentle and melancholy as ever.

“Am I interrupting?” Raphael asked softly, his gaze shifting between Ella and Vincent.

Vincent’s expression hardened slightly, but he released Ella’s hand and stepped back, his posture tense.

“What do you want, Raphael?” he asked, his voice cool.

Raphael hesitated for a moment before stepping into the room, his hands clasped in front of him. “I came to check on Ella,” he said quietly. “I wanted to make sure she was alright after… everything.”

Ella’s heart softened slightly at Raphael’s concern, but the tension between him and Vincent was palpable. It was as if the brothers were locked in some silent battle, their loyalties divided in ways she couldn’t fully understand.

“I am fine, Lord Raphael. Thank you for your concerns," Ella said softly, though her voice lacked conviction. “I just… needed some time to think.”

Raphael’s gaze lingered on her for a moment, his eyes filled with a sadness that seemed to go beyond the present situation. “You’ve been through so much,” he murmured. “I’m sorry that we’ve dragged you into this.”

Vincent’s jaw tightened, and he shot Raphael a sharp look. “This isn’t the time for apologies,” he said coolly. “We need to focus on keeping her safe.”

Raphael’s gaze flickered with guilt, but he didn’t respond. Instead, he turned his attention back to Ella, his expression softening. “If you need anything,” he said quietly, “you can always come to me. I’ll do whatever I can to help.”

Ella nodded, though her heart was still heavy with doubt. Raphael’s gentleness was comforting, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that even he was hiding something from her. The brothers were bound by the same dark secrets and she couldn’t help but wonder if their kindness was just another way to manipulate her, to pull her deeper into their world.

As the silence stretched between them, Lucien suddenly appeared in the doorway, his presence like a gust of wind that stirred the tension in the room. He leaned casually against the doorframe, his dark eyes gleaming with amusement as he took in the scene before him.

“Well, well, well,” Lucien drawled, his voice smooth and mocking. “Is this a family meeting? Or should I say, a lovers’ quarrel?”

Vincent’s expression darkened and he stepped forward, his posture tense. “Lucien,” he said warningly, his voice low.

Lucien smirked, his gaze flicking to Ella. “Don’t worry, darling,” he said softly, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “I’m just here to make sure our little doll doesn’t feel too neglected. After all, it would be such a shame if she started to think we weren’t giving her enough attention.”

Ella’s heart pounded in her chest as Lucien’s gaze lingered on her, his eyes sharp and predatory. There was something unsettling about the way he looked at her, something that made her feel exposed, vulnerable.

“Leave her alone,” Vincent growled, his voice filled with barely controlled anger.

Lucien’s smirk widened and he straightened from the doorframe, his movements fluid and graceful. “Calm down, brother,” he said coolly. “I am not here to cause trouble. I’m just reminding Eleanor that she’s not as alone as she thinks she is.”

The words sent a shiver down Ella’s spine, and she took a step back, her heart racing. Lucien’s charm was undeniable, but there was a darkness to him that made her skin crawl. She couldn’t trust him — she couldn’t trust any of them.

“I think she’s had enough for tonight,” Vincent said sharply, stepping in front of Ella as if to shield her from Lucien’s gaze. “It’s time for you to leave.”

Lucien’s expression darkened for a moment, but then he shrugged, his smile returning. “As you wish, brother,” he said lightly. “But don’t forget, dearest Ella… we’re all watching.”

With that, he turned and sauntered out of the room, his presence leaving behind an uneasy silence. Vincent’s body remained tense, his fists clenched at his sides as he glared after Lucien. Raphael, too, looked troubled, his expression filled with helplessness and sadness as he glanced back at Ella.

“I am really sorry,” Raphael murmured again, his voice soft and filled with regret. “For everything.”

And then, without another word, he turned and followed Lucien out of the room, leaving Ella and Vincent alone once more.

The door closed with a soft thud and Ella let out a shaky breath, her chest tight with emotion. The tension in the room was suffocating, and the weight of everything Vincent had told her pressed down on her like a heavy burden. She felt trapped, caught between forces she couldn’t control, and the brothers’ power struggle only made things worse.

“I need to get out of here,” she whispered, her voice trembling with fear and desperation.

Vincent turned to her, his expression filled with concern. “I know,” he said softly. “But it’s not safe right now. Adrian’s control is tightening, and my brothers… they’re closing in on you. You need to be careful, Eleanor. You need to stay strong.”

Ella’s heart ached with the weight of his words, but she knew that she couldn’t give up. No matter how trapped she felt, no matter how hopeless things seemed, she had to find a way out. She couldn’t let Adrian — or any of the brothers — claim her life.

She wouldn’t.

But as the night wore on and the darkness outside the manor deepened, Ella couldn’t shake the feeling that the chains of fate were tightening around her, pulling her deeper into a world she couldn’t escape.

* * *

The following day dawned with an eerie stillness that seemed to wrap itself around Blackthorn Manor. The sunlight, muted and gray, struggled to break through the thick fog that blanketed the grounds. Ella woke with a start, her body tense, her mind clouded by fragmented memories of the previous night. She had barely slept, her dreams haunted by shadows and whispered voices. Adrian’s bite still lingered in her mind, a haunting reminder of the growing danger she was in, and Vincent’s cryptic words only deepened her sense of dread.

The moment her eyes opened, Ella felt the weight of the manor pressing down on her. Every inch of the house seemed to hum with tension, as though something was waiting just beyond her sight, waiting to pounce. She dressed quickly, hoping to lose herself in the routine of the day, but even that seemed impossible now. She couldn’t shake the feeling that eyes were always on her, watching her every move.

After a meager breakfast, she found herself drawn deeper into the manor, past corridors she rarely explored, until she came to the wing where the brothers kept their private rooms. This part of the manor had always felt forbidden, its doors holding secrets that were better left undisturbed. But something pulled her forward now — a strange compulsion she couldn’t explain.

The air grew colder as she moved deeper into the wing, the light dimming as the curtains blocked out the weak sunlight. Her heart began to race as she neared the end of the corridor, her breath catching in her throat when she found herself standing in front of a tall, ornate door. She recognized it immediately — it was Lucien’s room.

A sense of unease settled over her, but she couldn’t bring herself to turn away. Lucien had always unnerved her, his sly charm and sharp eyes making her feel as though he could see right through her. He had a way of making her feel both drawn to him and repelled at the same time, his presence dangerous yet alluring.

Ella hesitated for a long moment, her hand hovering over the doorknob. She shouldn’t be here. She knew that. But the pull was too strong to resist. Before she could talk herself out of it, she turned the knob and stepped inside.

Lucien’s room was dark, the heavy curtains drawn tightly shut. A fire burned low in the hearth, casting long shadows that danced along the walls. The air was thick with the scent of incense, a heady mix of spice and smoke that made her feel lightheaded as soon as she crossed the threshold. Everything in the room seemed designed to seduce the senses — the rich, burgundy velvet drapes, the plush cushions strewn across the chaise lounge, the soft fur rugs that covered the floor. It was a room made for pleasure, for indulgence.

Ella took a step forward, her heart pounding in her chest. She was about to turn back toward the door when she heard a voice from the shadows.

“Well, well, well,” Lucien drawled, his voice thick with amusement. “I wasn’t expecting company.”

Ella’s breath caught in her throat, and she spun around to see Lucien lounging casually on a chaise near the fire, a glass of wine in his hand. He was dressed in a loose, unbuttoned shirt and dark pants, his golden hair falling over his eyes in a way that made him look both disheveled and impossibly handsome. His gaze was fixed on her with a predatory gleam that sent a shiver down her spine.

“I… I didn’t mean to intrude,” she stammered, her voice shaking as she took a step back. “I was just —”

“Wandering?” Lucien finished for her, his lips curving into a sly smile. “You have a habit of finding yourself in the most interesting places, darling.”

Ella swallowed hard, her mind racing as she tried to figure out how to respond. Lucien had always had a way of making her feel as though she was playing a game she didn’t know the rules to, and now, standing in his room, she felt more vulnerable than ever.

“I should go,” she said quickly, turning toward the door.

But before she could take a step, Lucien was on his feet, moving with a speed and grace that took her breath away. He crossed the room in an instant, his hand catching her wrist with a firm but gentle grip, pulling her back toward him.

Lucien’s voice was a low murmur, filled with wicked intent. “Leaving so soon?” he purred, stepping closer to Ella. His hand slid up her arm, the touch deliberate, lingering, sending a shock of heat through her. The room seemed to shrink around them, the air thick with tension as he moved closer, his body mere inches from hers, his lips brushing the shell of her ear in a way that made her shudder.

“Stay,” he whispered, his voice like velvet, coaxing her deeper into his web. “You haven’t even begun to enjoy the pleasures this night holds.”

Ella’s heart raced, the mix of fear and anticipation swirling in her chest. She could feel the magnetic pull of him, the way his very presence made her pulse quicken, made her skin tingle with awareness. His touch was intoxicating, making it impossible to think clearly, making it impossible to resist.

Lucien’s lips ghosted along her jaw, the sensation sending a shiver down her spine. His hand slid to her waist, pulling her closer against him, the heat of his body seeping into hers. “You seem tense,” he whispered against her skin, his lips barely brushing her neck. “What are you afraid of, sweetheart? Thinking of what might happen if you stay?”

She was trapped in his gaze, unable to look away, the intensity of his eyes pulling her in. Her breath came in shallow gasps, her body betraying her with every beat of her heart. “I… I don’t know what you want from me, milord,” she managed to whisper, though her voice was trembling, betraying the desire that was slowly building within her.

Lucien chuckled softly, the sound dark and seductive. “What do I want?” he repeated, his eyes gleaming with wicked amusement. His hand slid up her back, his fingers brushing along her spine, sending a ripple of sensation through her. “I want you, Eleanor. All of you. Your lips, your body… your blood.”

Ella’s pulse quickened, her body tense as he closed the distance between them. Before she could protest, Lucien’s lips crashed onto hers, fierce and demanding. His kiss was like a storm, intense and all-consuming, igniting a fire within her that she had never felt before. His hands gripped her waist, pulling her against him, the heat of his body pressing into hers with a need that made her head spin.

The table behind her bumped against the back of her legs as Lucien guided her backward, his lips never leaving hers. She gasped into his mouth, her hands instinctively clutching his shirt as she felt herself being lifted, her back pressed against the cool surface of the table. Lucien’s hands roamed her body with a possessive hunger, tracing every curve, every inch of skin, as if he were claiming her with every touch.

His lips moved to her neck, trailing slow, teasing kisses along her throat, making her head fall back with a soft moan. His hands slid under the fabric of her dress, exploring the bare skin beneath with a possessive touch that left her trembling beneath him. Ella’s breath came in ragged gasps as his hands worked their magic, igniting a fire in her belly that she couldn’t ignore, a fire that threatened to consume her entirely.

Lucien’s mouth found the sensitive spot just beneath her ear, and he nipped at her skin gently, making her pulse flutter wildly. “You’re fighting it,” he murmured against her skin, his voice thick with desire. “But you want this, sweetheart. You want me.”

She couldn’t deny it. Her body was betraying her, responding to him in ways she couldn’t control. Every touch, every kiss, every whispered word made her fall deeper into his seductive spell, and no matter how hard she tried to resist, the pull of him was too strong.

Lucien’s hands gripped her thighs, pulling her closer to the edge of the table, his lips claiming hers once more in a kiss that was both fierce and tender. He kissed her with an urgency that made her heart race, as if he were trying to devour her, to make her his in every way.

His fingers tangled in her hair, pulling her head back as he trailed kisses down her throat, his lips leaving a burning trail in their wake. Ella’s hands gripped the edges of the table, her breath coming in shallow gasps as she felt him lower her body beneath him, his lips never ceasing their exploration of her skin.

“Your blood,” Lucien whispered, his voice thick with hunger. His lips hovered just above her shoulder, his breath hot against her skin. “Let me taste it.”

Ella’s heart pounded in her chest as Lucien’s fangs grazed her shoulder, the sensation sending a shiver of both fear and anticipation through her. She gasped as his fangs pierced her skin, the sharp pain quickly melting into a wave of heat that coursed through her body.

Lucien’s mouth sealed over the bite, and he drank deeply, his hands holding her tightly against him as he fed. The sensation was overwhelming — intense and dizzying — as her blood flowed into him. Her body weakened beneath him, her head spinning with a mixture of pain and pleasure as she felt the life being drawn from her. But even in her vulnerable state, there was something undeniably seductive about the way he held her, the way he claimed her.

Her breathing became shallow, her chest rising and falling rapidly as Lucien drank from her. The pain faded into a distant throb, replaced by a strange warmth that spread through her veins, leaving her breathless and disoriented. She could feel his hunger, his need for her, and it stirred something deep within her that she couldn’t explain.

Finally, Lucien pulled back, his lips stained red with her blood, his eyes glowing with satisfaction. He licked his lips, savoring the taste of her as he looked down at her with a dark, satisfied smile.

“You’re mine now,” he murmured, his voice a low growl of possession as he leaned down to kiss her once more. “Every part of you.”

Ella’s eyes fluttered closed as the world around her faded, her body spent and weakened from the intense moment they had shared. She could still feel the heat of his body against hers, the lingering sensation of his fangs in her skin, and she knew — despite her fear, despite everything — that she was falling deeper into Lucien’s temptation, unable to resist the pull he had over her.

Lucien lingered above Ella, his lips trailing over the bite mark on her shoulder. The aftertaste of her blood still lingered on his lips, sweet and intoxicating. He let out a satisfied hum as he leaned in closer, his hands still possessively cradling her body on the table, his fingers tracing delicate patterns along her exposed skin. His breath fanned across her collarbone, warm and gentle in contrast to the hunger he had just displayed.

Ella was trembling beneath him, caught between the fading sting of the bite and the overwhelming sensations that coursed through her body. Her body felt light, almost disconnected from reality, and yet there was an undeniable magnetism in the way he touched her, something that stirred deep inside her.

Lucien smiled as he observed her, his gaze dark and possessive. He could see the mixture of emotions flickering in her eyes — fear, confusion, passion and something else that intrigued him. He pressed his forehead against hers, his hand stroking her hair as if to soothe her. His voice was low, the soft murmur of a man who knew exactly what effect he had on her.

"You see, sweetheart," Lucien whispered, his lips brushing hers in the faintest of kisses. "This is what you do to me. You awaken something inside me, something that craves you in every possible way."

Ella’s breath hitched as his words sank in, her heart fluttering in her chest. She could feel the heat of his body surrounding her, the way his fingers danced across her skin, pulling her deeper into the intoxicating pull of his presence. She was too weak to fight it now, too drawn in by the darkness and the desire that seemed to coil around them both.

Lucien’s lips captured hers again, slower this time, more deliberate. His kiss was laced with something deeper than mere hunger — it was laced with control, with the knowledge that she was now his. He kissed her as if savoring the moment, as if imprinting his presence onto her very soul. His hands moved gently, cradling her face, his thumbs brushing her cheeks as his lips continued to dance against hers.

Ella melted into the kiss, her hands instinctively reaching up to cling to him, desperate for something to hold on to as the world spun around her. Lucien’s mouth was relentless, teasing her, coaxing her further into submission with every gentle touch, every soft sigh.

When he finally pulled back, Ella could feel the lingering warmth of his lips on hers, her mind foggy with the weight of what had just transpired. She stared up at him, her body heavy, her mind struggling to catch up with the sensations that had just overwhelmed her.

Lucien leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead. His voice was a soft murmur, filled with satisfaction. "You can rest, darling. You've given me what I want for now."

He stood back, watching her with an unreadable expression. Ella remained on the table, her body limp with exhaustion. She could still feel the bite on her shoulder, the ghost of his lips, the heat of his body against hers.

Lucien adjusted her clothing, his hands moving with surprising gentleness as he pulled the fabric back over her shoulders, smoothing the wrinkles in her dress. He made sure she was presentable, though his touch lingered for a moment too long, as if he was reluctant to let her go.

Her body ached, her mind still spinning. She could feel it in the air, in her bones. He had claimed her in a way that went far beyond the physical, and despite everything, she wasn’t sure how much longer she could resist his pull.

Ella’s legs buckled beneath her and she would have collapsed if Lucien hadn’t caught her. He held her tightly against him, his arms strong and reassuring as he gently guided her to the chaise lounge by the fire.

“Shh,” Lucien whispered, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. “You’re fine, sweetheart. You just need to rest.”

Ella’s eyes fluttered closed as Lucien’s voice lulled her into a hazy, dreamlike state. Her body felt light, as though she were floating, and the warmth of the fire seemed to wrap around her like a comforting embrace.

But even as Ella's body relaxed against the softness of the chaise, her mind buzzed with the conflicting sensations that Lucien had stirred within her. The pain of his bite had faded into a dull throb, replaced by a heady rush of desire that left her feeling both disoriented and ashamed. She knew she should hate him for what he had done, for the way he had toyed with her body and mind, but something inside her had responded to him, drawn to the danger that clung to him like a second skin.

Lucien watched her with hooded eyes, his lips curving into a satisfied smile as he stroked her hair. He seemed pleased with himself, with the way she had melted under his touch, but there was something more in his gaze — something darker, something that made her pulse quicken with both fear and anticipation.

"You're a fascinating creature, Eleanor," Lucien murmured, his voice low and velvet-soft. "So delicate, so easily broken... and yet there's a strength in you that I can't quite put my finger on. It's what makes you so irresistible."

Ella's eyes fluttered open, her vision blurry as she looked up at him. "I... I don't understand," she whispered, her voice trembling.

Lucien's smile widened, his fingers tracing the curve of her jaw as he leaned closer. "I want to know what makes you tick, sweetheart. What drives you, what keeps you fighting even when you're so clearly outmatched. You're caught in the middle of something far bigger than yourself, and yet... you're still standing."

Ella shivered under his touch, her heart pounding in her chest as his words washed over her. There was a part of her that wanted to push him away, to fight against the power he held over her, but another part of her — the part that had responded to his kiss, to the sensation of his fangs piercing her skin — felt drawn to him, as if he had awakened something inside her that she hadn't known existed.

"You're different from the others," Lucien continued, his voice a soft purr. "Adrian, Vincent, Sebastian... even Raphael. They're all so caught up in their own agendas, their own desires. But you... you're pure. Untouched by the darkness that surrounds this house. And that's why you're so important to us."

Ella's breath hitched in her throat as his words sank in. "Important? Why?"

Lucien chuckled softly, his fingers brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "You're the key, Ella. The key to everything. Adrian may have claimed you as his own, but you're so much more than that. Your blood... your very essence... it holds power. Power that could change everything."

Ella's mind raced, trying to make sense of what he was saying. She had heard Vincent mention something about a prophecy, about her bloodline being tied to a power that had been dormant for centuries. But she had never fully understood what it meant — until now.

"I don't want this," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I never asked for any of this."

Lucien's expression softened for a moment, and he cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs gently brushing her cheeks. "I know, sweetheart. None of us asked for this. But fate has a way of pulling us into its web, whether we want it or not. And now... we're all bound by it."

Ella's eyes filled with tears and she closed them, trying to shut out the overwhelming emotions that threatened to consume her. She felt trapped, caught between forces she couldn't control, and no matter how hard she tried to fight against it, the chains that bound her only seemed to tighten.

Lucien's touch was strangely soothing, his presence both a comfort and a danger. She hated herself for finding solace in his arms, for allowing herself to be drawn into the darkness that surrounded him. But at that moment, she was too exhausted to fight it.

"Rest, Eleanor," Lucien whispered, his voice so hypnotic to her. "You need your strength. There will be time for questions later. For now... just let go."

Ella's body relaxed against the cushions, her mind slipping into a haze as Lucien's words lulled her into a deep, dreamless sleep. She felt his hands gently caressing her hair, his lips brushing her forehead in a surprisingly tender gesture.

And then, the darkness took her.

When Ella awoke, the room was still shrouded in shadows, the fire in the hearth now nothing more than a pile of glowing embers. She blinked groggily, her mind slow to register where she was, her body heavy with exhaustion. For a moment, she thought she was still dreaming, but then the memories of what had happened flooded back, and her heart raced with panic.

She sat up quickly, her head spinning from the sudden movement. The room was empty, Lucien nowhere to be seen. Her shoulder still throbbed faintly where he had bitten her, the skin tender to the touch. She ran her fingers over the marks, shivering at the memory of his lips on her skin.

She had to leave. Now.

Ella stumbled to her feet, her legs still weak from the blood loss. She glanced around the room, searching for any sign of Lucien, but the room remained silent, the only sound the faint crackle of the dying fire. She gathered her strength and made her way to the door, her heart pounding in her chest as she reached for the handle.

But before she could turn the knob, the door swung open and Lucien stood before her, his expression unreadable.

"Running away again, sweetheart?" he asked, his voice smooth and teasing.

Ella's breath caught in her throat, and she took a step back, her pulse quickening with fear. "I... I need to go," she stammered, her voice trembling.

Lucien's gaze softened and he stepped aside, gesturing for her to pass. "Go, then," he said softly. "But remember, Eleanor... you can't run from this forever. No matter where you go, the chains of fate will always find you."

Ella hesitated for a moment, her heart torn between the need to escape and the strange pull she felt toward him. But then she nodded, her mind made up. She couldn’t afford to be pulled deeper into Lucien’s web, no matter how much he fascinated her.

Without another word, she stepped past him and fled into the hallway, her heart pounding in her chest as she hurried back to her room.
