Bound By Blood

Chapter 7

Ch. 7 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The heavy velvet curtains of Ella’s new quarters swayed softly as a breeze whispered through the partially cracked window. Moonlight filtered in through the arched windows, casting faint silver shadows on the stone floor, like ghostly tendrils creeping toward her bed. Ella sat on the edge of her bed, staring blankly into the shadows that seemed to pulse and shift with life. She had barely slept, her mind swirling with fragments of everything that had happened at the masked ball and after that, everything the brothers had revealed and everything else left unsaid.

After the announcement at the ball, the air in Blackthorn Manor had changed. It had always been suffocating, heavy with an unseen tension, but now it felt as though the very walls were closing in on her. She had been elevated to a position within the house, but she still didn’t know what that truly meant. It wasn’t freedom. She knew that much. If anything, the chains that bound her to the manor had only tightened.

She had felt their eyes on her since the ball, especially Adrian’s. His cold, piercing gaze seemed to follow her wherever she went, even when he wasn’t in the room. She could feel his presence, like a shadow lurking just out of sight. The brothers had always exerted a certain power over her, but since the ball, Adrian’s control had become something more insidious, something that made her stomach twist with unease.

Ella rose from the bed, the cool air brushing against her skin as she moved to the window. She gazed out over the mist-covered grounds of the manor, her fingers absently tracing the windowsill as she tried to steady her racing thoughts. The night was quiet, but it was the kind of quiet that felt dangerous, like the calm before a storm. She had never felt more trapped than she did now, standing in this room that was far too luxurious for someone who had once been just a servant.

She didn’t belong here.

As her thoughts raced, a soft knock at the door broke the silence and Ella’s heart jumped in her chest. She hesitated for a moment before crossing the room, her fingers trembling slightly as she opened the door. It was one of the maids, a young woman with wide, anxious eyes, holding a dress and a note sealed with the crest of Blackthorn Manor. She handed both of it to Ella without a word, her gaze flickering nervously to the shadows as though she feared something might emerge from them.

Ella took the note, nodding her thanks to the maid before closing the door. Her hands shook as she broke the seal and unfolded the piece of parchment. It was from Adrian.

“Eleanor,” the note read in his elegant, precise handwriting, “come to my study immediately.”

Her stomach tightened with dread. She knew better than to disobey, but something about the note felt different — urgent, commanding and filled with an undercurrent of danger. She had seen glimpses of Adrian’s darkness before, the cold control he exerted over everything in his domain, but she sensed that tonight, she would see more of it. She wasn’t sure she was ready for that.

With a deep breath, she slipped into the gown, the cool touch of the silver fabric against her skin sent a slight shiver down her spine. She smoothed the dress down over her hips, feeling its weight settle comfortably around her. The silver glowed against her complexion, catching the light with each subtle movement.

The hallway outside was dimly lit, the flickering candlelight casting long shadows on the stone walls. As she walked, the air felt heavier with each step, like the weight of the manor itself was pressing down on her, reminding her of her place.

When Ella reached Adrian’s study, she paused, her breath catching in her throat as she stood outside the door. Her hand hovered above the polished brass knob, but it felt heavy, as if the act of entering would change something irrevocably. From within, she could hear the soft crackle of the fire, its warmth beckoning through the wood, accompanied by the low hum of voices, distant and indistinct. She pressed her palm to the door, hesitating for just a moment longer, before taking a deep breath and pushing it open.

The room beyond was bathed in shadows and amber light. Adrian stood by the fireplace, his tall, powerful frame outlined against the flickering flames. His back was to her, but even without seeing his face, she could feel the palpable tension that clung to him, a dark energy that made the air around her thick and suffocating. The firelight danced across his silhouette, giving him the appearance of something dangerous and untouchable — a predator waiting to strike.

Ella swallowed hard, stepping further into the room, her feet barely making a sound on the thick rug beneath her. “You summoned me, Your Grace,” she said softly, her voice trembling despite her best efforts to keep it steady.

Adrian didn’t move at first. The silence between them stretched out, heavy with unspoken meaning. Then, slowly, deliberately, he turned to face her. His gaze locked onto hers, dark and intense, as if he was peeling back every layer of her defenses with just a look. The cold intensity of his eyes sent a jolt through her, making her heart skip a beat. There was something dangerous in the way he looked at her, something that made her feel both vulnerable and inexplicably drawn to him.

He took a step forward, his movements slow and measured, each one making the space between them shrink until the air felt charged with tension. “Come to me,” he commanded, his voice a low, sultry drawl that sent a shiver down her spine.

Ella’s feet seemed to move on their own, carrying her across the room toward him. With every step, the heat from the fire seemed to intensify, but it was nothing compared to the heat radiating from Adrian himself. The closer she got, the more suffocating his presence became, wrapping around her like a vice. She felt her breath quicken, her pulse racing as she came to a stop in front of him.

Adrian’s hand reached out, his fingers brushing lightly against her cheek. The touch was so gentle, yet it made her skin tingle with an unsettling mixture of fear and anticipation. His thumb grazed her jaw, trailing a slow path down her neck, leaving a trail of heat in its wake. Ella’s breath hitched, her body reacting to him in ways she couldn’t control. Every inch of her was hyper-aware of him — the way his eyes darkened as they raked over her, the way his breath seemed to quicken ever so slightly.

“You are mine now, Ella,” Adrian murmured, his voice low and laced with something possessive. His fingers drifted lower, settling just above her collarbone, the heat of his palm warming her skin. “If anyone dares to tell you otherwise — do not expect any truth in their words. Do you understand me?” he said. The gentleness of his touch only heightened the tension, as though he was restraining himself, holding back the darkness she could sense lurking just beneath the surface.

Ella’s throat felt tight, her heart pounding in her chest as she struggled to breathe. “I… I understand,” she whispered, though her voice wavered with uncertainty. She didn’t want to belong to anyone, especially not to him, but she could feel the invisible chains tightening around her, binding her to him in ways she didn’t fully comprehend.

Adrian’s grip on her neck tightened just enough to make her heart race with both fear and something else, something she was too afraid to name. His gaze never wavered, and she could see the hunger in his eyes, the raw desire that lay just beneath the cold mask of control. His thumb stroked the pulse point at her throat, a subtle reminder of how easily he could take what he wanted.

“There is no escaping this,” Adrian whispered, his lips dangerously close to her ear. His breath was warm against her skin, sending a shiver down her spine that made her knees weak. “You are bound to me now, not just to this house. Whatever fantasies you had of freedom…” His voice dipped lower, becoming almost seductive. “Forget them. You are mine.”

The words hung in the air between them, heavy and final, sinking into Ella’s mind like a stone sinking into water. Her heart pounded in her chest, her mind spinning with the weight of his declaration. She had known from the beginning that escape was impossible, but hearing it from his lips made it feel real in a way that it hadn’t before. She was trapped, caged, and there was no way out.

Adrian’s fingers tightened just a fraction more on her neck, his gaze growing darker with a hunger that was barely concealed. His lips hovered just above hers, close enough that she could feel the warmth of his breath against her mouth.

But he didn’t close the distance. Not yet.

Instead, he lingered there, drawing out the tension, letting it coil tighter between them.

“You will do as I say,” he murmured, his voice a low, dangerous growl that made her pulse quicken. His lips brushed against her skin as he spoke, sending a wave of heat coursing through her. “You will obey me in all things, or you will face the consequences.”

Ella’s breath came in shallow gasps, her body trembling beneath the weight of his presence. The room seemed to close in around her, the air thick and oppressive as the fire crackled softly in the background. She felt dizzy, overwhelmed by the intensity of his gaze, by the way his fingers held her captive without truly harming her. There was something intoxicating about his control, something that made her both terrified and strangely drawn to him, as if she couldn’t help but fall deeper into the web he had woven around her.

“Y-yes, Your Grace,” she whispered, her voice barely audible as her lips trembled with the effort to speak. She hated how weak she sounded, how completely she had surrendered to him at that moment. But there was no room for defiance, not when Adrian held her so firmly in his grasp.

For a long moment, the room was filled with nothing but the sound of their breathing and the soft crackling of the fire. Adrian’s grip on her neck loosened slightly, though his thumb continued to trace slow, deliberate circles against her skin, as if reminding her that he was still in control. The intensity of the moment hung in the air, thick and heavy, as if something had shifted between them that couldn’t be undone.

Adrian’s gaze softened, just slightly, though the darkness in his eyes never fully left. He stepped back, releasing her from his hold, though the imprint of his touch lingered on her skin like a brand. The firelight flickered in his eyes, casting him in an almost otherworldly glow as he watched her with a small, satisfied smile.

“Good,” he said softly, his voice a low purr. “I’m glad we understand each other.”

He rewarded her with a sly smile, the corner of his lips barely lifting as his eyes trailed down the length of Ella's dress, slowly making their way back up as he began to circle behind her with unhurried steps.

He observed her, appraising — her tall frame, the curves of her body, her scent, — like a predator preparing to savor its prey, her flesh, her blood.

"You look exquisite, Eleonor. Did you like the dress?" he murmured softly near her ear, delicately brushing aside a section of her wavy hair with the tips of his fingers, letting it fall down her back.

"Which one, Your Grace?" She barely turned her head towards him, daring to glance into his cold eyes over her now-exposed shoulder. Just as softly, she continued, "I mean... they were all beautiful, thank you."

"Well, for your information, this one is one of my favorites," Adrian said, gently placing his hand between her shoulder blades. His fingertips brushed along her spine, each touch intensifying the subtle trembling in Ella's body that she struggled to hide. This only drew another satisfied smile from him. "Do you know why, sweet Ella?"

Of course, she had no idea, nor could she comprehend the abrupt shifts in her master's mood as he now gripped her waist possessively with both hands, pulling her tightly against his broad, strong chest. It didn't help that Adrian rested his chin on the crown of her head, as if content to torment her with his patience while waiting for an answer. He seemed to take a perverse delight in it.

"Does my brave, free-spirited dove have no clue?" he teased, leaning close to her ear again.

"No, Your Grace. Please enlighten me," she replied, mustering what little courage she had left. She had no idea where that boldness came from, but she immediately regretted her words. The lord's hands tightened painfully around her thighs, forcing a quiet gasp from her lips.

"It seems like my little dove has forgotten one simple truth." he growled through gritted teeth, "Do not bite the hand that feeds you. Especially not the one that holds your life."

"Please forgive me, Your Grace," she whispered with trembling lips, desperately clinging to the last shreds of her bravery. "Would Your Grace be kind enough to give me just one simple hint?"

"It has something to do with you, as the one who wearing it."

How was that supposed to help? She had no clue.

The place where Adrian's hand touched her skin was beginning to burn deep inside, distracting her more than anything else.

"I give up, master," she murmured softly, turning her face to him once again in an attempt to appease him and, perhaps, soften his potential anger. "What is it?"

The last thing she saw before she suddenly found herself slammed against the wall was the fire blazing in Adrian's cold eyes. Whether it was simply the reflection of the fireplace's flames or something truly ignited within him, she couldn’t tell.

What had just happened? How had she ended up here in an instant, pinned against the cold wall by the weight of the vampire's entire body, her hands wrenched behind her back? Was he trying to impress her with his speed? Well, he certainly succeeded.

"You can be so obedient, such a sweet young lady, when it suits you..." Adrian whispered into her neck, tightening his grip on her wrists. With his other hand, he grasped her jaw, tilting her head to expose more of her slender neck. "The secret is, out of all of them, this dress is the easiest to remove."

Ella's breath quickened as Adrian's words sank in, her pulse racing beneath the hand that now gripped her jaw, forcing her head to tilt to one side. Her exposed neck tingled with the ghost of his breath as he leaned in, his lips brushing the delicate skin just below her ear. She could feel the warmth of him, the slow, deliberate rise and fall of his chest pressing against her back, his body caging hers against the cold stone wall.

He had moved so quickly — so effortlessly — that her mind was still catching up to the reality of the situation. One moment she had been standing, trying to match his sharp wit with a hint of her own, and the next, she had been pinned, immobilized by his strength. It was terrifying, disorienting, and yet... there was a dangerous allure to the way he held her, his power both suffocating and intoxicating. Ella’s thoughts swirled, a confused mix of fear, vulnerability, and something darker, something she couldn’t — or perhaps wouldn’t — name.

Adrian’s fingers trailed from her jaw to her throat, his touch feather-light but commanding. He seemed to savor the feel of her pulse fluttering beneath his fingertips, as if testing her resolve, waiting for her to break. When she didn’t, when she remained still despite the panic pounding in her chest, he chuckled softly, his lips brushing the sensitive skin of her neck.

“You are trembling,” he murmured, his voice low and intimate. The sound of it sent a shiver down her spine, though she couldn’t tell if it was from fear or something else entirely. He dragged his lips slowly across her skin, pausing just below her ear. “Is it fear that makes you quiver so, little dove? Or perhaps…” His hand slid down to her waist, his grip possessive and firm. “Perhaps something else?”

Ella closed her eyes, her breath catching in her throat as his hand moved lower, tracing the curve of her waist, pulling her hips tighter against him. His body radiated heat and the fire crackling in the hearth only seemed to amplify the charged atmosphere between them. She could feel the hardness of his chest pressed to her back, his breath hot and steady against her neck as he held her in place, completely at his mercy.

She wanted to resist, to push back against him, but her body betrayed her. Her skin burned where his hands touched her, the tension coiling tight in her belly as he continued his slow, deliberate exploration of her body. She could feel the raw power in him, the control he wielded so effortlessly. It terrified her, but at the same time, it drew her in like a moth to a flame. There was something seductive in the way Adrian held her, something that made it impossible to think of anything but him — his touch, his breath, the sound of his voice.

“Answer me, Ella,” Adrian said, his voice soft but edged with dark amusement. He pressed closer, his lips brushing her ear as he spoke. “What is it that makes you tremble? Is it my touch? Or perhaps it’s the thought of what I might do to you next?”

A small, desperate whimper escaped her lips before she could stop it, and Adrian’s soft chuckle followed.

“I think I know,” he whispered. His hand moved back up her body, skimming her side before settling just below her chest, his fingers grazing the edge of the dress he had praised earlier. “This dress, as beautiful as it is, was chosen for a reason, sweet Ella. It flatters you… but more importantly, it offers no resistance to me.” He leaned in closer, his lips ghosting over the sensitive skin at the base of her neck as he whispered, “It’s meant to be removed.”

Her eyes flew open at his words, her pulse hammering in her throat as her breath came faster. The implications of what he was saying made her stomach twist with both dread and… something else. Something felt deep within her, a dangerous pull toward him, toward his power, toward the way he made her feel helpless and desired all at once.

Adrian’s hands moved to the ties of her dress, his fingers deftly loosening the laces with practiced ease. The tension in the fabric eased as he worked, and Ella could feel the gown loosening, slipping down her shoulders, baring more of her skin to the cool air of the room and the heat of his gaze.

Ella gasped as the fabric slid lower, her skin prickling with the sensation of exposure. She was caught between wanting to push him away and the intoxicating pull of his touch, the way his hands seemed to ignite her skin wherever they traveled. Her mind screamed at her to fight, to resist, but her body remained frozen, caught in the web of his control, held captive by the raw magnetism that radiated from him.

Adrian’s fingers brushed against her bare back, tracing the curve of her spine as the dress slipped lower still, until it pooled at her hips. He stepped closer, his chest pressing firmly against her back, his breath hot and heavy against her neck as he whispered, “Every inch of you… is mine.”

His words sent a shudder through her, her mind racing with the weight of his claim. She knew he meant it — knew that in his eyes, she was already his, body and soul. And yet, despite the fear that coiled tight in her chest, there was something else there too. Something darker, something she didn’t want to name but couldn’t ignore.

“Say it,” Adrian whispered, his voice soft but insistent. His hands tightened on her waist, pulling her closer until there was no space left between them. “Tell me you belong to me.”

Ella’s lips parted, her breath coming in shallow gasps as her mind fought against the command. But she could feel the weight of his gaze on her, the intensity of his presence pressing down on her like a vice, and the words slipped from her lips before she could stop them.

“I belong to you,” she whispered, her voice trembling with fear and something far more dangerous.

Adrian smiled, his lips brushing against the sensitive skin of her neck as he whispered, “Good girl.”

Adrian's smile deepened, his sharp eyes gleaming with satisfaction at her words. Ella's breath caught in her chest as she felt his lips again brush against her skin, soft at first, but with a sense of anticipation that made her whole body tense. There was no resisting him, no escaping the hold he had over her — not when, deep inside, some part of her had surrendered to the pull of him.

His lips trailed along her neck, grazing the delicate skin, teasing her, drawing out the moment. She felt the heat of his breath and then, with a suddenness that made her gasp, his fangs sank into her neck. The sharp sting sent a shock through her body, pain mixing with an odd, heady pleasure that made her knees weaken beneath her. Adrian held her firmly against him, his grip tightening as he drank from her, his mouth sealed over the bite, his tongue teasing the wound as he drew her blood into him.

Ella felt a strange warmth spreading through her, an almost dizzying sensation as her blood left her body. The sharpness of the bite faded into something else — a raw intimacy that made her feel both vulnerable and connected to him in ways she didn’t understand. She could hear the soft sound of him drinking, could feel the pull of his lips on her skin as if he were claiming her completely.

The taste of her blood was intoxicating to him — rich, warm, filled with the vitality of life, with the hint of fear and desire mixed together in a potent combination that sent a shudder of satisfaction through him. Adrian drank deeply, savoring every drop as it flowed into him, feeling the rush of her essence infusing his own. Her blood was sweet, more alluring than any he had tasted before, and he relished it, pulling her closer still, his body pressed tightly against hers.

But then, as quickly as it had begun, Adrian withdrew. He lifted his head, his lips glistening with a faint trace of her blood and his eyes locked onto hers. There was something primal in his gaze, something dark and possessive, but also something more — an unspoken connection that went beyond mere bloodlust.

Without hesitation, he leaned in, capturing her lips with his in a fierce, possessive kiss. The taste of her own blood lingered on his tongue, mingling with the warmth of the kiss, and Ella felt herself melting into him, overwhelmed by the force of his desire. His hands moved to cradle her face, his lips moving against hers with a hunger that matched the intensity of the bite. The kiss was consuming, filled with a passion that burned through every inch of her, igniting something deep inside that she had been trying to suppress.

Adrian kissed her as if he wanted to devour her whole, to claim her completely, and Ella found herself responding, her own lips parting for him, her body trembling with a mixture of need and terror. The taste of him — of her blood on his lips — was like nothing she had ever known, a strange, forbidden pleasure that made her heart race and her mind spin.

But just as the kiss deepened, as Adrian’s hands began to explore the curves of her body with renewed intensity, a sudden knock on the door shattered the moment. The sound was sharp, insistent, and it broke through the haze of desire that had enveloped them both.

Adrian froze, his lips still brushing against hers, his body tense with annoyance. His breath was heavy, and for a moment, he didn’t move, as if he were contemplating ignoring the interruption altogether. But then came another knock — louder this time, more urgent.

"Brother," came Vincent’s voice from the other side of the door, sharp and demanding. "We need to speak. Now."

Adrian’s eyes darkened with frustration, and he slowly pulled back from Ella, his hands still resting on her waist as if reluctant to let go. His lips curled into a thin smile, the fire in his gaze not entirely extinguished. "It seems our moment has been cut short," he murmured, his voice low and laced with irritation.

Ella’s heart was still pounding in her chest, her breath coming in shallow gasps as she tried to steady herself. She could feel the lingering warmth of his kiss, the ghost of his fangs still throbbing on her neck, and the intensity of what had just happened left her shaken.

With swift, practiced movements, he grasped Ella’s almost fallen dress, his hands skilled and firm as he pulled the fabric back over her shoulders. His touch was quick yet oddly gentle, securing the ties with precision, all the while his gaze remained focused, determined. The warmth of his fingers lingered on her skin as he smoothed the fabric back into place. His expression, now a mask of composure, betrayed none of the passion that had burned between them moments before.

"Compose yourself," he said quietly, pulling a pristine white handkerchief from his breast pocket to wipe the blood from her lips.

Adrian glanced at her once more, he predatorily licked his lips, gathering the remnants of her blood and giving her a teasing whisper. "But this isn’t over, little dove. Not by a long shot."

His expression shifted, becoming cold and controlled once more as he strode toward it with an air of authority that left no room for question. He opened the door, revealing Vincent’s stern figure standing in the hallway, his eyes sharp with impatience.

Ella stood frozen in place, her heart still racing as she watched him turn away, his broad shoulders blocking out the light of the fire. Her mind was still reeling from the intensity of their encounter, the heat of his touch, the weight of his words. She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her and she had to reach out and steady herself against the back of a nearby chair to keep from collapsing.

She was bound to him now, whether she wanted to be or not.

Adrian didn’t even glance in Vincent’s direction as he entered the room, which had, in a short time, become filled with the sweet scent of blood, his gaze still fixed on the fire. “Later,” he replied dismissively. “I’m occupied.”

Vincent’s jaw clenched, and he took a step closer, his eyes never leaving Ella. “I don’t care,” he growled. “This can’t wait.”

Adrian finally turned, his expression hardening as he looked at his brother. The tension between them was palpable and Ella could feel it like a physical force pressing down on her. She wanted to leave, to escape before whatever storm was brewing between the brothers erupted, but she was frozen in place, unable to move.

“What is it, Vincent?” Adrian asked, his voice laced with impatience.

Vincent’s gaze flickered briefly to Ella before returning to Adrian. “It’s about her,” he said, his voice low and dangerous. “This game you’re playing… it’s gone too far.”

Adrian raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “Too far?” he echoed, his tone mocking. “You’re worried about her, Vincent? How touching.”

Vincent’s hands clenched into fists at his sides and Ella could see the barely contained fury in his eyes. “This isn’t a game, Adrian,” he snarled. “You’re using her as a pawn in your twisted power struggle. She’s not just some toy for you to manipulate.”

Adrian’s expression darkened and he took a step toward Vincent, his posture radiating authority. “She belongs to this house,” he said coldly. “She is part of our world now, whether she — or you — likes it or not. I will use her as I see fit.”

Ella’s breath caught in her throat, her heart pounding in her chest as she watched the two brothers face off. She had never seen Vincent so angry and the intensity of his emotions frightened her. She didn’t understand what was happening, but she knew that whatever it was, it was dangerous.

Vincent’s gaze hardened as he took a step closer to Adrian, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “You’re going to regret this,” he said and added a bit softly, “mark my words.”

With that, Vincent turned on his heel and stormed out of the room, leaving Ella standing there, her heart racing with fear and confusion. Adrian watched his brother leave, a small smile playing on his lips as he turned back to Ella.

“Don’t let Vincent’s theatrics frighten you,” Adrian said softly, his tone almost soothing. “He’s always been a bit too sentimental for his own good.”

Ella nodded, though her mind was still reeling from everything that had just happened. She didn’t know who to trust, didn’t know what to believe anymore. The brothers were playing a dangerous game and she was caught in the middle of it, a pawn in their power struggle.

But one thing was becoming clearer with each passing day: she couldn’t stay here. She had to escape, to find a way out of Blackthorn Manor before the darkness that surrounded the brothers consumed her completely.

Later that night, as Ella lay in bed, her mind churned with thoughts of escape. She couldn’t stay in this twisted world any longer. The brothers were dangerous, unpredictable, and their power over her was growing stronger with each passing day. She had to get out before it was too late.

But as she began to form a plan in her mind, the door to her room creaked open again and Vincent stepped inside. His face was grim, his eyes filled with a storm of emotions she couldn’t quite place.

“Lord Vincent,” Ella whispered, sitting up in bed. “What… what are you doing here, master?”

Vincent crossed the room in a few long strides, his gaze dark and intense as he stood before her. “I needed to see you,” he said quietly, his voice rough with emotion. “There’s something you need to know.”

Ella’s heart raced in her chest as she looked up at him, her mind spinning with questions. “What is it?” she asked softly.

Vincent hesitated for a moment, his jaw clenched tightly before he finally spoke. “Everything you think you know about this house, about my brothers or me… it’s all a lie,” he said, his voice filled with bitterness. “Adrian has been keeping secrets, secrets that could destroy everything.”

Ella stared at him in shock, her mind reeling from his words. “What do you mean?” she asked, her voice trembling.

Vincent’s gaze darkened, and he took a step closer to her, his voice dropping to a near whisper. “You were never meant to be part of this house,” he said quietly. “Adrian brought you here for a reason, but it wasn’t what he told you. He’s been lying to you from the beginning.”

Ella’s breath caught in her throat, her heart pounding with fear and confusion. She didn’t know what to believe anymore, didn’t know who to trust. But one thing was clear: whatever secret Vincent was keeping, it was dangerous. And it could change everything.
