Grumpy King

Ch. 17 / 35 Jan 13, 2026

~Viola pov~

“Is this okay?” He asked as we moved closer to the lake, he intertwined her fingers with mine and it fit perfectly.

I nods and smiled at him.

“I used to come here a lot, with my dad, the young me. We came here to fish every Saturday, we would have a camp, lit fires and eat up the fish we caught and go home with nothing with her book tagging along.” Damien smiled at the end, his smile was breathtaking.

I barely smiles and he was smiling now at the memories.

“How long was that?” I asked with curiosity burning in my gaze.

“About hundreds of years ago?” He chuckled at his reply.

My jaw is slacked as I stared at him, it couldn’t be he was that old. His eyes were around, viewing the spot we were.

“Come.”

He walked away from there, there was a blanket spread on the ground where he took me, I wondered how it got there. He kicks off his shoes and sat down, I sat down beside him. And looked around where he took me, it was gorgeous and seemed unreal like we were covered in fairytales.

And this place had been here for a long yet it hasn’t lost its glory, it felt magical.

“This is the heart of our pack.”

The heart of the pack, this is a special place to him and he brought me here, I couldn’t handle how sweet this was.

“Tell me about yourself?” He asked and I freeze.

“What do you want to know?” I tried not to fidget with my hands and had my gaze lowered to the ground.

“Anything, about you, I want to know everything about you.“

I was unable to say a word for a minute.

This is the part where I’ve to lie.

“I...I was thirteen when I found myself with Cranon, our pack was attacked and I don’t remember what happened I passed out in the fire, I was locked in the room but the fire broke in.” My hand went to my shoulders and I slide a finger in my dress, revealing my shoulders that held the scars of that night.

“A got a burn.” It’s still hurts each time I touch it, I reminded of that night.

It wasn’t entirely a lie. Damien's gaze softens at me. I covered them back.

“Then was how I began living with Cranon, I stayed with him for five years.” I stared at my hands when I was done talking. Damien’s hands cupped my face and stared deeply into my eyes, my mouth is slightly parted as I watched him, pull himself closer to me.

I’m holding my breath as to how close he was to me.

“I’ve got a favorite color now, and that’s the color of your eyes.” His breath is against my face and his pointed nose touches mine.

I felt the tightness in my stomach, I gulp down nervously, his forehead was placed against mine and his breathing hoarsely behind my ears.

“What are you doing to me?”

I could feel the burns in my cheeks as he stares at my lips.

“Viola.” He growled.

My legs are held together and I won’t give to hear him growl between my legs.

”King Damien!” The voice calls out loud and Damien withdraws from me. I sprung to my feet and swept the lost hair off my face neatly behind my ears.

Damien slowly rises and walked ahead, I followed him quietly.

“Not everyone can come here.” He frowned at the voice intruder, who was looking for Damien.

“Lucas?” Damien called when the voice became familiar and close.

“Oh, I thought I would find you here. Hi Vee.”

Lucas waved at me, and Damien didn’t like that because he growls at him and Lucas dropped his hands with a soft smile.

“What is it?”

“Bianca, you might...” He walked to Damien and whispered something into his ears which I couldn’t hear.

I couldn’t believe Lucas ruined this moment I was having with Damien.

“Why didn’t you tell him you’re the daughter of an Alpha?” Lana asked with a snarl.

“Damien hates us, what do you think he would do to me when he found out my father was a strong Alpha king?” I asked back.

“He would have killed you,” Lana answered truthfully.

“He knows I haven’t wolfed out yet, he had seen the scars on me and the wound I got from Roland hasn’t healed yet. I can tell with the way he looks at me, am just a helpless, lost puppy in his eyes, a weak omega.” I stared at his broad back as he leaned closer and talked in a hushed voice with Lucas.

“When are you gonna keep lying to him?” Lana inquired with a snort.

“Till I’m sure he’s ready to accept me as his mate, then I’ll tell him the truth.” I smiled softly at him.

I have no plans of changing those thoughts yet, if that would make me get closer to him, I don’t mind at all.

“You don’t mind the percussions?” Lana argues.

“We would think about that when the time comes but now, I only want to get closer to Damien.” And hopefully, Lucas is doing what I asked him to.

“I don’t like this Vee,” she purrs.

“Don’t worry Lana, if anything happens you’re gonna protect me,” I assure her.

Damien turned and caught me staring at him.

“Let’s go, bumpkin.” He stated. I nodded, seeing the tops of my cheeks as I followed them out to where Lucas said he parked the car.

I sat on the back of the truck and Lucas was driving us back to the mansion.

“Would you like some music?” Lucas stared at me over the mirror while I was struggling to deal with the seatbelt and gave up when I couldn’t do it.

“Yes, please.” I grinned brightly.

“It’s too loud, turn it off.” Damien turned it down himself before the music could play.

Lucas shrugged with a knowing smile at me.

I chuckled softly.

The grumpy King.
