The Rebirth of My Dead Billionaire Wife

Chapter 204

Ch. 204 / 300 Apr 25, 2026

The Winter Ball was still in full swing, the gymnasium alive with music and laughter as Avery and Shawn stepped through the double doors. The shimmering lights reflected off Avery’s silver gown, casting a soft glow around her as she walked in.

The effect was immediate. The hum of conversations died down, replaced by gasps and whispered exclamations.

“Is that Avery?”

“She looks… unreal.”

“She’s stunning!”

Avery’s heart raced as every pair of eyes turned toward her. Normally, she would have shrunk under the weight of so much attention, but tonight was different. With Shawn by her side, his hand lightly resting on the small of her back, she felt an unfamiliar sense of confidence.

Shawn leaned down, his voice low and steady. “You’ve got this. Just breathe.”

Avery nodded, letting the corners of her lips curl into a small smile.

The crowd parted as they made their way toward the center of the room. Camila stood near the punch table, still basking in the satisfaction of her earlier sabotage. Her red gown sparkled under the lights, and her fake smile widened when she spotted Avery and Shawn.

“Well, well,” she said, striding toward them, her tone saccharine sweet. “Look who decided to come back. Avery, you clean up nicely—finally.”

A few nearby students stifled giggles, but most remained silent, too stunned by Avery’s transformation to join in Camila’s snide remarks.

Avery opened her mouth to respond, but Shawn beat her to it.

“Save it, Camila,” Shawn said sharply, his green eyes blazing as he stepped in front of Avery. “You’ve done enough tonight.”

Camila’s smile faltered, but she quickly recovered, tilting her head in mock confusion. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Shawn. I was just being polite.”

“Polite?” Shawn’s voice rose slightly, drawing more attention from the crowd. “You humiliated her in front of everyone, spread lies, and tried to ruin her night. That’s not polite—it’s pathetic.”

Gasps rippled through the room as Camila’s face turned red, the composure she prided herself on slipping.

Shawn turned to face the crowd, his voice steady and confident. “If anyone here still thinks Avery isn’t worth their time, take another look.” He gestured toward her, his expression softening.

“She’s the most incredible girl I’ve ever known. Not because of how she looks tonight—though she’s absolutely stunning—but because of who she is. Strong, kind, and way better than any of us deserve.”

Avery’s breath caught in her throat, her cheeks flushing as murmurs filled the room.

“He’s right,” someone whispered.

“I can’t believe we ever doubted her,” another student added.

Shawn turned back to Avery, his voice dropping so only she could hear. “You don’t need anyone’s approval, Avery. But in case you’re wondering, you’ve got mine. Always.”

Her gray eyes shimmered with unshed tears, and she gave him a small nod, unable to find the words to respond.

Camila’s hands clenched into fists at her sides as she watched the scene unfold. She had worked hard to ensure that this night would end in disaster for Avery, but now the tables had turned, and everyone was looking at Avery as though she were the queen of the ball.

Camila’s fake smile twisted into something colder as she stepped closer. “Well, aren’t you the hero, Shawn?” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “But let’s not pretend this changes anything. Everyone knows what Avery’s really like. This little act won’t last.”

“Let it go, Camila,” Shawn said, his tone calm but firm. “You’ve already lost. Walk away before you embarrass yourself even more.”

The crowd was now fully focused on them, and Camila seemed to sense she was losing control of the situation. She forced another tight smile and stepped back, but not before leaning in close to Avery.

“This isn’t over,” she muttered, her voice venomous.

Avery held her ground, meeting Camila’s glare with a steady gaze. “You’re right. It’s not. But I’m not the one who should be worried.”

As Camila stalked off, the tension in the room began to dissipate. Shawn turned to Avery, offering her his hand. “May I have this dance?”

Avery hesitated for a moment before placing her hand in his. “I’d like that.”

The music shifted to a slow, romantic melody as Shawn led her to the center of the dance floor. The crowd watched in silence, captivated by the sight of them moving together.

“You’re amazing,” Shawn said softly, his green eyes locked on hers.

Avery smiled, her earlier doubts fading with every step. “I think I might actually believe you this time.”

From the edge of the room, Camila watched them with narrowed eyes, her mind already racing with plans for her next move. She wasn’t about to let Avery win—not without a fight.

As the music swelled and Avery twirled under the shimmering lights, Camila’s lips curled into a sinister smile.

“This isn’t over,” she whispered again, her voice drowned out by the applause erupting from the crowd.
