The Rebirth of My Dead Billionaire Wife

Chapter 211

Ch. 211 / 300 Apr 25, 2026

Avery Kane Deveraux stared at the financial reports spread across her desk, her sharp gray eyes scanning each line with precision. Something was off—accounts weren’t adding up, and recent transactions seemed deliberately misreported. Kane Enterprises was a well-oiled machine, and these discrepancies weren’t mere mistakes.

The warning email she had received the night before echoed in her mind: Be careful who you trust.

Her fingers tapped on the edge of the desk as she pieced together patterns in the data. Transfers to unfamiliar vendors, inflated project costs, and discrepancies in tax filings—it all pointed to someone with access to high-level financial operations. Someone inside the company.

A knock at the door broke her concentration. It was Cara, her assistant.

“Ms. Deveraux, the board meeting starts in ten minutes,” Cara said, her tone hesitant. “They’re already gathering in the conference room.”

“Thanks, Cara,” Avery replied, closing the files and slipping them into her briefcase.

As she walked to the boardroom, Avery straightened her shoulders and prepared herself. She wasn’t just investigating discrepancies now—she was walking into a room filled with potential suspects.

The boardroom buzzed with muted conversation as Avery entered, her commanding presence immediately silencing the room. The members of Kane Enterprises’ board were some of the sharpest minds in the industry, but Avery had earned their respect through her unparalleled leadership.

The meeting began smoothly enough, with updates on ongoing projects and international expansions. But when Avery brought up the financial inconsistencies, the atmosphere shifted.

“Recently, we’ve noticed some discrepancies in our financial reports,” Avery said, her tone calm but firm. “I’ve asked the accounting department for a full audit, but I wanted to make you all aware. We may be dealing with an internal issue.”

One of the senior board members, Franklin Boyd, leaned back in his chair, a skeptical look on his face. “Ms. Deveraux, while I appreciate your vigilance, don’t you think you’re jumping to conclusions? It’s not uncommon for reports to have minor errors.”

Avery’s jaw tightened. “These are not minor errors, Mr. Boyd. These discrepancies point to deliberate manipulation, and I take that very seriously.”

Franklin smirked, folding his hands on the table. “Perhaps if you weren’t so distracted by wedding planning, you’d have caught these ‘discrepancies’ sooner.”

The room went silent, tension thick in the air.

Avery met his gaze, her voice cold and sharp. “My personal life does not interfere with my ability to run this company, Mr. Boyd. I’d advise you to focus on the issue at hand instead of making baseless assumptions.”

Franklin looked away, his smirk fading. The rest of the board shifted uncomfortably in their seats, clearly siding with Avery but unwilling to confront Franklin directly.

The meeting ended shortly after, but Avery couldn’t shake the tension.
