The Kane estate had been transformed into a pastel wonderland for Alessia’s baby shower. Soft pink and cream balloons adorned every corner, tied with satin ribbons that fluttered gently in the breeze. A floral arch of roses, peonies, and baby’s breath stood at the entrance to the garden, where the celebration was being held. Fairy lights hung from the trees, twinkling faintly even in the late afternoon sunlight. Everything about the setup screamed elegance, and Alessia couldn’t help but feel a swell of gratitude for her family and friends who had gone above and beyond to make this day special.
The centerpiece of the garden was a long table draped in an ivory cloth, topped with intricate centerpieces of pink and gold baby-themed decor. Tiny booties, rattles, and miniature stuffed animals dotted the arrangement. A stunning cake sat at the head of the table—three tiers of vanilla and strawberry perfection, decorated with edible flowers and a gold topper that read, “It’s a Girl!”
The food spread was nothing short of indulgent. There were finger sandwiches, delicate macarons in pastel hues, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and a selection of cheeses and fruits arranged artfully on wooden boards. A pink lemonade station stood nearby, complete with sparkling water infused with fresh raspberries and mint.
Victoria was the first to greet Alessia as she entered the garden. “You look radiant, sweetheart,” she said, pulling her daughter into a gentle hug. Alessia wore a flowing pink dress that accentuated her growing belly, her hair styled in soft waves.
“Mom, this is all so beautiful,” Alessia said, her voice tinged with emotion. “Thank you for everything.”
“Anything for you and my granddaughter,” Victoria replied, beaming. “Now, let’s get you seated. You’re the star of the day.”
Guests began trickling in—family friends, colleagues, and a few close friends from Alessia’s past. Zane arrived with Pamela in tow, both carrying gifts wrapped in shiny pink paper.
“Uncle Zane reporting for duty,” he announced loudly, earning laughs from the crowd. “I brought the coolest baby toys you’ll ever see.”
Pamela rolled her eyes, nudging him playfully. “Ignore him. He bought a toy car that’s bigger than the crib. I got you the practical stuff.”
“Both are appreciated,” Alessia said with a laugh, hugging them both. “Thank you.”
As the party hit its stride, Alessia spotted Christian approaching through the garden gate. Her heart sank, and her smile faltered. He was dressed sharply in a white button-up shirt and navy slacks, carrying a small, neatly wrapped gift. His expression was a mixture of hope and hesitation.
Pamela noticed Alessia’s reaction and leaned in. “You okay?” she asked softly.
“I’m fine,” Alessia replied, though her voice lacked conviction. “He insisted on coming. I couldn’t say no.”
Christian made his way over, his eyes locking on Alessia. “Hi,” he said quietly, holding out the gift. “I didn’t want to miss this.”
“Thanks,” Alessia said curtly, taking the gift but setting it aside without opening it. She gestured to the garden. “Enjoy the party.”
“Can we talk?” Christian asked, his voice low. “Just for a moment.”
Pamela shot him a warning glance but stepped aside to give them space. Alessia crossed her arms, her tone firm. “What is it, Christian?”
“I just…” He hesitated, glancing around at the guests before focusing on her. “I wanted to say I’m sorry. For everything. For the way I handled things. I know I’ve hurt you, and I hate myself for it.”
Alessia sighed, her expression softening slightly but her resolve remaining firm. “Christian, I don’t know what you expect me to say. I’m focusing on my baby. That’s what matters now.”
“And I want to be part of that,” Christian said, his voice earnest. “I want to be there for her—for both of you. Please, Alessia. Give me a chance to make things right.”
She shook her head, her voice steady but filled with emotion. “You don’t get to just waltz back in and pretend everything is fine. It’s not. You made your choices, and I’ve made mine. My daughter will know her father, but that’s as far as it goes.”
Christian’s face fell, but he nodded slowly. “I understand,” he said softly. “But I’m not giving up. I’ll prove to you that I can be the father she deserves.”
