The Homeless Billionaire

Chapter 11

Ch. 11 / 77 Mar 12, 2026

"At least it doesn't seem like a prank call this time," one of the policemen said, his voice weary. "We have to grab this opportunity to find the mentally unstable Mrs. McCully, before her husband starts his usual tirades and threats."

Another policeman nodded in agreement, adding, "The man has connections and power, and we, the police, can't afford to be on his bad side. Not unless we want to be out of a job."

They finally arrived at the location they were given. They walked briskly to the entrance of the bookstore, where a woman scurried towards them, probably the caller.

"Hi, I'm Vivian, the woman who called," the woman said, offering her hand for a brief shake. "I've been waiting here forever."

The senior police officer took her hand, his face serious. "Okay, let's get to business. Let's go in and make our findings."

He requested that some of the policemen should guard the area while the others went in with Vivian trailing closely behind. She directed them to the owner of the store.

"Ensure that you don't allow anyone to walk in or out," the senior police officer told his men as they walked in. "Start searching everyone and their belongings."

The old man who owned the bookstore glared at them behind his spectacles, staring at them through his nose. "Good afternoon," the senior police officer said, handing over his ID card to the old man as they walked briskly to the counter where he perched. "I'm Officer Dash."

The old man took the ID card and examined it through his boggled spectacles. "Is there a problem, Officer?" he asked, his voice scratchy and old.

"Not really," the senior police officer replied. "But we are looking for someone here. Do you know this lady?" He queried, handing the old man the picture they had always searched with.

After careful examination, the old man handed the picture back to them. "I don't know her," he stated, his voice firm.

Just then, another woman came into the store. "Who are you?" the senior police officer asked, his tone stern.

Fear gripped the woman when she saw their uniforms. "I'm Taylor. I'm a part-timer," she stammered.

"Do you know this woman?" The senior police officer asked, shoving the picture in her face.

She stared at it for a full minute before cocking her head to the side. "Well, it looks like Mina, the full-time employee," she said, frowning a little. "But she has black hair, unlike the lady in this picture."

"Now, we're getting somewhere," one of the policemen thought.

"Where is she? We are looking for her," the senior police officer stated firmly, turning to Vivian. "Tell her what you told us."

"She's not Mina. She's Jasamina McCully, the wife of Ludale McCully," Vivian explained. "She just dyed her hair black to cover up her identity. I live around here, so I know her very well. Even the baby is not a girl, but a boy. And I overheard when she called him 'Jaimie'. That's the name of Billionaire Baron's son."

The customers and staff in the library were surprised and started gasping and shouting. The only person who seemed uninterested was the old store owner.

"Boss," a sergeant interjected. "Here's what I found in one of the bags here. But I guess the owner of the bag is not here now. She must have left before we arrived, according to her colleagues."

The police officer's colleague took the findings from the junior staff member. He reached into the bag and retrieved a handful of items, including baby items.

"This looks exactly like the picture I have," the police officer said as he compared the contents of the bag to a picture he had. "She must be really smart to come up with a fake ID card. I know a fake card when I see one."

"Boss, look again. A picture of a baby. Jamie McCully is written on the back," the sergeant said, handing another picture to the police officer.

The police officer nodded, confirming that Vivian's information was correct.

The police officer turned to the part-timer and asked, "How am I sure that you're not involved in helping her hide?"

The part-timer was shaking with fear as she replied, "No, I swear, I didn't know she was Billionaire Baron's wife. I'm telling you the truth."

Vivian spoke up, "She's telling the truth."

The police officer then turned his attention to the old man who seemed disinterested in the entire situation.

"Do you know where she escaped to?" the police officer asked the old man.

"I have no idea," the old man replied.

"She's your employee. Surely, you know where she lives. It must be on the form she filled out before getting the job. Where's the form?"

The old man shrugged and started arranging books on a bookshelf. "She signed no such form."

The police officer frowned. "Then, how did you hire her?"
