The Barren Ex-Wife Gave Birth to Twins

Chapter 52

Ch. 52 / 100 May 04, 2026

The twins were finally asleep, their quiet breathing the only sound breaking the stillness of Amelia’s home. She sat at the kitchen table, her laptop open but ignored, the screen casting a dim glow in the darkened room. The weight of recent events pressed on her, a constant reminder of the chaos that seemed to surround her life.

A sharp knock at the door jolted her from her thoughts. She froze, her heart skipping a beat. It was late, too late for visitors. Rising cautiously, she approached the door and peered through the peephole. A man stood on the porch, impeccably dressed in a tailored suit, his stance confident. Something about him set her on edge.

Amelia opened the door just a crack, gripping the edge tightly. “Can I help you?” she asked warily.

The man’s piercing gaze met hers, and he gave a thin smile. “Ms. Blake, I presume?” Without waiting for an invitation, he stepped forward, forcing Amelia to take a step back. “I’m Robert Hale. CEO of Horizon Enterprises.”

Her stomach dropped. She’d heard the name before—Ryan had mentioned him more than once, always with contempt. “What do you want?” she asked, her voice sharp.

Hale walked into the living room as though he owned it, his polished shoes clicking softly on the hardwood floor. He surveyed the space, his movements deliberate, before turning to face her. “I know about your history with Ryan,” he began, his voice calm but edged with something cold. “The betrayal, the lies, the heartbreak. And I know what it’s like to be on the receiving end of his games.”

Amelia crossed her arms, her defenses immediately up. “If you know so much, you’ll know I’m not interested in whatever you’re selling.”

Hale’s smile didn’t waver. He reached into his briefcase and pulled out a sleek folder, placing it on her coffee table. “I’m not selling anything, Ms. Blake. I’m offering you an opportunity. Work with me, and I’ll ensure your children never have to worry about their future. Their safety, their education—all of it, secured.”

Amelia stared at the folder but didn’t move. “Why would I trust you?” she asked, her tone icy.

Hale chuckled, a low, humorless sound. “Because unlike Ryan, I don’t make promises I can’t keep. Help me expose him—his secrets, his weaknesses—and I’ll make it worth your while.”

The air in the room felt heavier, charged with an unsettling energy. Amelia’s mind raced. This wasn’t just about Ryan; Hale was playing a much larger game, one she wasn’t sure she wanted any part of. But she knew better than to dismiss him outright.

“If I agree,” she said cautiously, her voice measured, “what’s the first step?”

Hale’s smirk widened, a predator sensing victory. He slid the folder toward her. “Inside, you’ll find all the details you need to get started. This is just the beginning, Ms. Blake. Don’t keep me waiting.”
