The Barren Ex-Wife Gave Birth to Twins

Chapter 71

Ch. 71 / 100 May 04, 2026

The next invitation came with a promise of adventure—a helicopter ride to a vineyard estate. Amelia hesitated before agreeing, but Hale’s quiet insistence won her over.

The flight was exhilarating, the world stretching out below them as the city melted into rolling hills. Hale sat beside her, pointing out landmarks, his calm voice grounding her excitement.

“You’re smiling,” he said, leaning closer so his voice wouldn’t be lost over the hum of the engine.

Amelia laughed, a genuine, unguarded sound. “I can’t help it. This is… amazing.”

“It suits you,” Hale said, his eyes lingering on her with an intensity that made her look away.

At the vineyard, they were greeted with champagne and led to a private terrace overlooking rows of sunlit grapevines. The tranquility was overwhelming, and Amelia felt herself relax in a way she hadn’t in years.

Hale watched her as she took in the view, a faint smile curving his lips. “What are you thinking?” he asked, his voice low.

“That it’s been a long time since I’ve felt this… peaceful,” she admitted, almost to herself.

Hale stepped closer, his gaze unwavering. “Then I hope today is the start of something new for you. You deserve peace, Amelia. You deserve everything.”

The sincerity in his tone caught her off guard, and she turned to him, searching his expression for any trace of pretense. But all she found was warmth and something she couldn’t quite name.

They spent the afternoon exploring the vineyard, sampling wines, and sharing easy conversation. Hale’s compliments were subtle but steady, his admiration woven into the moments between laughs and shared stories.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, Hale reached for her hand, his touch light but deliberate. “Thank you for today,” he said, his voice quiet but certain. “You’ve reminded me how beautiful life can be.”

Amelia didn’t pull away, her heart catching in her chest. For the first time, she allowed herself to consider the possibility of something new—something uncomplicated and steady.

Back home, Sammie was less convinced. “Hale is charming, sure. But what’s his angle?” she asked, her arms crossed as Amelia recounted the day.

Amelia shrugged, brushing off her friend’s concern. “Not everything has to be complicated, Sammie. For once, I just want to enjoy the moment.”

Sammie sighed, but the gleam of happiness in Amelia’s eyes softened her tone. “Just promise me you’ll keep your guard up. Guys like him don’t come without baggage.”

Despite her friend’s warning, Amelia couldn’t help but replay the day in her mind, a soft smile lingering on her lips. For now, she was content to let herself be swept away, even if just for a little while.
