The Barren Ex-Wife Gave Birth to Twins

Chapter 73

Ch. 73 / 100 May 04, 2026

The hum of the helicopter was a steady undercurrent as Amelia stared out at the view, the vast city lights shimmering like jewels against the dark canvas of the night. Beside her, Hale sat with the ease of a man completely at home in such luxury. His sharp suit framed his figure perfectly, and his gaze lingered on her more than the sights outside.

“You’ve been through so much, Amelia,” Hale said, his voice low and intimate. “I wanted to remind you that there’s a world beyond all of it—a world that can belong to you.”

She glanced at him, her lips curving in a polite smile, though unease simmered beneath the surface. “It’s beautiful,” she admitted, gesturing to the sprawling city below. “But I don’t need extravagance, Hale. My priorities are my kids and our stability.”

He leaned closer, the scent of his cologne—a mix of cedar and spice—enveloping her. “You deserve more than just stability,” he said, his tone almost a whisper. “You deserve to be cherished, to be treated as the extraordinary woman you are.”

Amelia’s breath hitched, and she quickly turned her gaze back to the window. She felt Hale’s attention like a weight, and as much as she tried to ignore it, the sheer intensity of his presence made her pulse quicken.

When they arrived at the vineyard estate, the setting was nothing short of magical. String lights crisscrossed above an outdoor dining setup on a terrace overlooking rolling hills. The air was warm and fragrant, carrying the scent of blooming flowers and fresh grapes. Hale guided her to the table with a hand lightly resting on the small of her back.

“This is incredible,” Amelia said softly, unable to deny the effort he’d put into the evening.

“It’s nothing compared to what you deserve,” Hale replied, pulling out her chair with a practiced elegance.

Dinner was exquisite—delicate courses paired with vintage wines—and Hale’s compliments were as abundant as the flowing champagne. “You’re so much more than you give yourself credit for,” he said, his gaze never wavering from hers. “I see a woman who’s endured and thrived, and it’s… intoxicating.”

Amelia blushed, shifting slightly in her seat. His words were bold, and the heat in his eyes made her feel both flattered and cornered. “I appreciate your kindness, Hale, but my focus will always be on my children.”

“And that’s what makes you so extraordinary,” he replied smoothly. “You have a strength that draws people in—myself included.”

As the dinner wound down, Hale leaned forward, his voice dropping to a more intimate tone. “Do you ever let anyone take care of you, Amelia?” he asked, his hand lightly brushing hers on the table.

Her breath caught at the unexpected contact, and her heart raced. “I don’t have much time for that,” she said, her voice quieter now.

“Then let me,” Hale said, his fingers grazing hers. “Even just for tonight.”

His touch was confident, calculated, and Amelia felt a shiver run through her. The way he looked at her was magnetic, his focus absolute, as if she were the only person in the world.

As the night deepened, Hale suggested a walk through the vineyard under the stars. The gentle breeze played with Amelia’s hair, and Hale moved closer, his hand brushing her arm. “You’re stunning,” he said, his voice low and husky.

Amelia felt a rush of heat at his proximity. She turned to face him, intending to dismiss his advances, but the intensity in his gaze made her falter. His hand rose to cup her cheek, and for a moment, the world seemed to pause.

“I’ve never met anyone like you,” Hale murmured, his thumb grazing her skin.

Amelia’s lips parted as her pulse raced. The tension between them crackled, but before it could escalate further, she stepped back, grounding herself.

“I need to get back to my kids,” she said firmly, though her voice wavered.

Hale’s expression softened, but his determination didn’t fade. “Of course,” he said smoothly. “But remember this, Amelia—you deserve more than what you’ve allowed yourself to have. And I’m not going anywhere.”

As they boarded the helicopter for the ride home, Amelia felt a swirl of conflicting emotions. Hale was intoxicating in his attention and charm, but something about his perfect exterior left her wary.

Later, as she tucked the twins into bed, Debby sleepily asked, “Mom, is Mr. Hale your boyfriend now?”

Amelia froze, her heart sinking at the question. “No, sweetheart,” she said softly, brushing a curl from her daughter’s forehead. “He’s just… someone I’m getting to know.”

As she settled in for the night, her phone buzzed with a text from Hale: You deserve the best, Amelia. Let me show you more.
