Methis Delis POV
"Do you have another boyfriend?" He asked, his voice quiet but angry. I could hear that at least, he was mad at me.
I sat in Jamal's bedroom, my mind filled with a whirlwind of emotions. I couldn't believe the situation I had found myself in, still trying to process the events from the previous night. But in the face of Jamal's piercing gaze, I couldn't let my vulnerability show. I had to maintain my poise.
"Another boyfriend? I...I don't remember saying anything about that," I stammered, my voice wavering uncertainly.
Jamal's eyes narrowed, his face etched with a mixture of confusion and anger. "Are you trying to teach me how to do things, Methis?"
The sheer intensity of his question sent shivers down my spine. I quickly realized how delicate the situation had become. I never anticipated things would escalate to this level. Fear fluttered in my chest as his words hung heavy in the air.
"N-no, Jamal," I whispered, my eyes downcast. "I never wanted to teach you anything. I just hoped we could maintain a professional, contractual relationship."
Jamal's anger seemed to grow as he stood before me, his towering figure casting a shadow on the room. "Is that how you see this? A mere contract? Have you no understanding of what we're supposed to build together?"
My eyes widened. I had never seen him so angry, so frustrated. I had no choice but to confront my own mistakes and find a way to rectify them. I desperately needed to salvage this partnership before it crumbled completely.
"I...I'm sorry," I murmured, my voice soft and sincere. "I didn't mean to anger you. I should have been more considerate. Please, give me a chance to make things right."
Jamal sighed heavily, his anger momentarily subsiding. He threw down the ointment he had brought, the sound echoing through the room. Without another word, he turned and left, leaving me alone with my regret.
I heard him storm into the bathroom and slam the door behind him, apparently furious. Jamal was nowhere to be found, and I felt his absence like a gaping hole in my heart. I knew I had to wait until I could return home, but more importantly, I needed to reflect on my actions. Figure out how to get out of this shit.
I sat in solitude, my mind a constant torrent of thoughts. I considered the choices I had made, every word I had spoken, and how they had led me to this impasse. I realized that perhaps it was my fear that had clouded my judgment. Instead of trying to please Jamal, I had inadvertently angered him.
The realization hit me like a bolt of lightning, shaking me to my core. I vowed to myself, at that moment that I would change, that I would do whatever it took to repair the damage my words had caused.
That I would try harder to please him, no matter the cost.
I was shaken by the sound of the door opening and slamming as he stormed back inside, sliding next to me in the bed but not saying a word.
Seconds turned into minutes, and yet we both sat in silence in the dark, listening to each other breathe. The weight of my mistakes pressed heavily upon me, but I refused to succumb to despair. I trained myself to be patient, waiting for the right moment to speak up again.
Finally, I summoned the courage to speak. I steeled myself for the encounter, my heart pounding in her chest. This time, I would choose my words carefully and act with humility.
"Jamal," I called out softly, my voice filled with earnestness. "I want to apologize for my actions. I never meant to offend you or belittle our connection. I understand now that I should have been more mindful of your feelings."
Jamal's eyes bore into mine, analyzing my sincerity. I held my breath, hoping that my words would be enough to mend the divide between them.
After what felt like an eternity, Jamal's stern expression softened, and a flicker of understanding crossed his face. He took a step closer, closing the gap between us.
"I appreciate your words, Methis. We both made mistakes in this journey," Jamal said, his voice gentle yet resolute. "But let's learn from them and grow together. Our connection is not just a contract. It's an opportunity to build something incredible."
A wave of relief washed over me, and a sigh escaped from the corners of my lips. I had taken at the very least, calmed things down. For now, at least.
I looked up at him, deciding to push my luck, "Can we not do it? Tonight? Please?"
For a second I thought he was going to get too angry. I thought he was going to lash out at me, maybe even attack me.
But he said nothing, instead he walked up and left the room, while I sat alone, in the darkness, wondering where it had all gone wrong.
Jamal Kunis POV
My mind was racing as I paced back and forth in my chambers. The past week had been a whirlwind of emotions and unexpected revelations. Doctors had come to examine her body, ensuring the Methis’s successful conception. It was a necessary step, but it had left me feeling a mix of anger and frustration.
She had reminded me of my duty, and it seemed to have stirred something within me. But instead of embracing it, I had let another half month pass without showing up. Just busing myself with the affairs of the clan, It was clear that my absence had caused a change in her feelings, from unease to calm acceptance. And for some reason, she thought it was fine.
“Is this what you want?” I had asked her the last time I saw her, holding her chin in my hand and forcing her to look at me. “To be nothing more than a vessel for my heir?”
She had met my gaze with a defiant glint in her eyes, but her voice was soft and resigned. “It is what I agreed to,” she had said. “And it is what you need.”
I had felt a surge of emotion at her words, but I couldn’t identify it. Was it admiration, gratitude, or something else? I had leaned in to kiss her, hoping to find an answer on her lips. But she had turned her head away, breaking the contact.
“I’m sorry,” she had whispered. “But I can’t do this, not now please.”
She had pushed me away gently, and walked out of the room without looking back. I had watched her go, feeling a strange emptiness in my chest.
In the midst of all this, I had heard that my Beta, occasionally visited Methis with exquisitely crafted gifts. I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy every time I felt she was pleasantly surprised. But I pushed those feelings aside, reminding myself that I had made my choice.
As much as I was starting to care about her, my duties to the pack were more important, and I had to focus on that.
Even if it meant staying away from her while she possibly carried my heir, I didn't mind much, it was a sacrifice I needed to make, and I was okay with it.
