Methis Delis POV
As the doctor finished speaking, I couldn't help but almost laugh at the absurdity of the situation. I had expected my role as the Female Lead to be anything but conventional, but I never imagined playing the part of a surrogate mother. It was a strange predicament, one that left me puzzled and curious about the lycan king's motives.
Sensing my gaze upon him, Jamal's voice cut through the air, stern and commanding. "Methis, there's no need to overthink things. Focus on what you need to do and carry out your role as we've agreed."
I bit my lip, suppressing the questions that threatened to spill from my tongue.
After the checkup, Jamal disappeared once again, leaving me alone with Beta, his trusted companion. Beta, a towering figure with a demeanor that commanded respect, led me through the halls of the palace. Silence enveloped us for a moment before Beta broke it with a nod of apology.
"On behalf of the wolf servants, I want to apologize for their earlier rudeness towards you, Methis. They are protective of our Alpha and misunderstood your role."
I smiled softly, accepting the apology. "It's alright, Beta. I understand their concerns. It's just a lot to take in, you know? This new world and the responsibilities that come with it."
Beta nodded in understanding, his eyes filled with a profound loyalty. "Yes, it can be overwhelming. But rest assured, we value your presence here, and we will do everything in our power to support you."
As we continued our tour of the palace, Beta shared stories of the werewolf history and the traditions that governed their society. The fast-paced dialogue painted a vivid picture of a world steeped in mythology and rich with unique customs. It was a glimpse into a realm I had never known, and though I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe, I also felt the weight of the responsibility resting on my shoulders.
Hours later, as we finished our tour and bid each other farewell, I found myself reflecting on the whirlwind of events that had unfolded since I entered Jamal's life. The unexpected circumstances had thrust me into a position I never could have imagined, but I couldn't deny the underlying sense of purpose that rang within me. I may not have understood Jamal's reasons fully, but I was determined to fulfill my role as the surrogate mother and support him in his quest for an heir.
That was the least I could do. And then get the hell out of here as quickly as possible, back to my own home, to my father, to take care of him, for what little time he had left.
As I retired to my room, thoughts and doubts swirled in my mind, mingling with the excitement that tinged every thought of the future. The path ahead was uncertain, fraught with challenges and unforeseen twists, but I was prepared to face them head-on.
Little did I know, it was all going to prove more challenging than I could ever imagine, and I was absolutely unprepared for it all.
The next morning, I was up and out of my room before anybody else, seeking to enjoy my own company for some time. The great hall of the palace beckoned, and I wanted to see it alone.
As soon as I set my eyes on it, I knew I was never going to get tired of this view. Ever. It was quite easily the most beautiful place I had ever seen, heck, it was the most beautiful place in the world.
Call me biased, but nothing beat a magnificent castle surrounded by grassland as lush and as green as life itself.
From the walls to the very carpet I walked on, it felt like I had been transported into a fantasy world, and in a way I was. It looked so beautiful I very nearly forgot how I got here, and why I was here.
I didn't spend much time indoors anyway, almost immediately ushered outside where some of the pups, in their wolf form ran around, looking like they were having the time of their lives. For a fleeting second, I wished I was one of them, without a care in the world, just being... me.
I joined them, in my own awkward manner, and after a few glances, scoping out the newcomer in their midst, they let me in.
As I played with the young wolves, the beta approached me. "You seem to be enjoying yourself," he said with a smile.
I looked up at him and grinned. "I am. This is amazing. I never thought I would be playing with wolves."
Beta chuckled. "We are not just wolves. We are wolf people, and we have a deep connection with our animal form."
I nodded, still petting one of the young wolves. "I can see that. It's incredible how you can transform like that."
Beta sat down next to me and watched as the young wolves continued to play around them. "It is a gift, but it also comes with great responsibility. We must always remember who we are and not let our animal instincts take over."
I looked at him curiously. "What do you mean?"
Beta sighed. "Sometimes, when we are in our wolf form, we can become too wild and lose control. It is important to maintain our human consciousness and not let the wolf take over completely."
"I see," I said softly, still petting the young wolf in his lap. "It must be difficult to balance both sides."
"It can be," Beta agreed. "But it is a part of who we are, and we embrace it."
We sat in comfortable silence for a few moments, watching the young wolves play. Then Beta spoke up again. "I must ask you something, Methis."
I turned to look at him, curious. "What is it?"
