Vayne's POV
"Caitlyn, look at me; I'm Talon!"
The man in front of me shouted towards me with wide eyes and a face full of grief. He appeared forlorn, and with deep and shallow scars on his body, one couldn't help but feel a wave of heartache.
"Strange, how could I generate such emotions?"
I couldn't help but wonder a bit in my heart, then gently shook my head.
"Listen, stop calling me by that name I've never heard before. I'm not the one you're looking for, and you'd better leave now, or else I'll definitely not let you go."
Looking at the man in front of me, I could feel the power of the wolf within him, even though I had now mastered the method of transforming into a wolf and possessed a power I couldn't have imagined before. But facing this man in front of me, I still wasn't sure I could defeat him.
"Ms. Caitlyn, what's wrong with you? The Alpha is specialized in taking you back."
At this time, another werewolf, built like a tower, walked over and dropped a werewolf warrior aside on his way in, just like me. He looked down at me with a hint of questioning in his tone.
"Here we go again; I told you, I'm not the one you're looking for, so go back where you came from."
I moved my shoulders to make sure I could maintain a fighting stance at all times. Because I could see that both of the men in front of me were no slouches, even much stronger than most of the pack. Maybe this was that test the Alpha was talking about.
"Bard, get out of the way."
The man from earlier frowned and chided lowly, followed by the tower-like werewolf stepping aside obediently. Though his indignation could be sensed, it was more of a hint of fear that showed in his eyes.
"Zed, I don't care what you've done to Caitlyn; let her regain her original memories now, or I'll surely blood the whole Fullmoon pack today."
The man named Talon lowered his voice, his icy eyes deadpan on the Alpha Zed.
It was impossible to say why, but the man's insane statement wouldn't have seemed like just a cocky remark to anyone at the scene.
"Talon, I remember telling you before to stop acting like the world owes you. Think about what you once have actually done. Isn't it ultimately your own fault that you're in this state now?"
Zed let out a small sneer before twisting his head around to look at me.
"Damn it, I knew you didn't have any good intentions from the start. All that talk about helping Caitlyn master the method of transforming into a wolf was just a lie in the end."
The man named Talon looked at Zed with disdain before taking a step closer as everyone watched.
"I'm warning you! No more steps forward. I will never allow you to hurt the Alpha."
With the raging Talon in front of me, I stepped forward to meet him, keeping a close eye on his body, ready to fight at any time. Although I wasn't sure I could stop his attack, my vocation told me I must not allow anyone to hurt the Alpha Zed.
"Ms. Caitlyn, stop playing. This isn't fun." Bard shouted angrily while striding towards me with ground-shaking steps. Then Bard stepped in front of Talon, arms outstretched, eyeing me intently.
"Get out of the way, Bard. This is between me and Caitlyn," Zed frowned once again.
"But, Alpha..."
Bard craned his head to look at Talon for a moment, somewhat tongue-tied.
"Now, do I need to repeat my orders a second time?" Talon spoke softly, but at the sound of his words, Bard obediently stepped aside while his rage-filled eyes scanned the surroundings.
Instantly, a deathly silence fell over the surrounding area.
Almost everyone acknowledged the lethal prowess of this Talon.
"Talon, don't make a futile effort; it's Caitlyn's own choice. She's not returning with you. And you're an Alpha too; you should understand how crucial Gamma is to a pack."
Zed's face lifted into a triumphant smile, relishing Talon's evident annoyance.
"Gamma? Damn it, what the hell did you do to Caitlyn? She’s my Luna!"
Talon released an enraged roar, seemingly unable to contain his anger any longer. He instantly transformed into a giant wolf, charging towards Zed.
I had never witnessed such a majestic giant wolf before, momentarily entranced. However, I quickly snapped out of it; as a pack Gamma, guarding the Alpha was my natural duty.
So, I re-transformed into a white wolf, the pupils of my purple eyes blocking Talon. I stepped forward just enough to position myself between Talon and Zed.
Talon instantly steadied himself when he saw my stance. His eyes were filled with confusion, along with a hint of sadness.
"Caitlyn, get out of the way," Talon urged, looking up at me. His deep eyes seemed to hold a magical power, and despite my attempts to avoid his gaze, I couldn't help but be drawn to him.
Even though I was certain that the man in front of me had no connection with me, an inexplicable desire to be close to him surfaced. As I entertained that thought, the urge to attack began to fade.
"Vayne, what are you doing?" Zed's voice behind me instantly brought me back to reality.
So, I re-energized my spirit, bared my sharp fangs, and lunged straight at the Talon in front of me.
For some reason, it seemed like I heard a sigh from the wolf inside Talon. Talon slowly raised his head, a crystal tear welling up in those pure eyes.
I understood very well that relying on my current strength, my attack this time would be easily dodged by him. However, Talon remained still, gazing at me with tenderness.
"Pfft!"
It was the sound of fangs penetrating deep into flesh and blood. Talon stood unmoving, blood gushing from the penetrating wound on his shoulder. Despite the injury, a smile adorned Talon's face as he gently rubbed his soft neck toward me.
"Caitlyn."
Talon called out tenderly.
