Talon's POV
"Alpha, is it true that the connection between you and Ms. Caitlyn had been broken?" Bard asked timidly, twisting his head between drives.
I understood his concern; after all, something like that sounded a bit outlandish as well.
"Uh-huh." I took a deep breath, then nodded.
"But from what I understand, the bond would only disappear when one of the mates vowed to reject another..."
Bard got halfway through his sentence and swallowed back the second half hard.
"That's impossible; Caitlyn would never be that kind of person," I said coldly. No matter what, I couldn't believe that Caitlyn would do such a thing, but right now, the bond of us broke.
The only explanation could only be that Caitlyn had suffered something during the Fullmoon pack. Coupled with the pain I felt earlier, I was very worried about Caitlyn's situation at this moment.
"Drive faster," I said in a deep voice before turning my head to look out the window at the street scene and stopped talking. Time passed, and my worry for Caitlyn grew deeper.
Just as I was about to lose my patience, a group of tall and looming buildings appeared in my field of vision. While I was shocked, I couldn't help but think of the rumors about the strength of the Fullmoon Pack.
"It's so grand, it's really worthy of being compared to the Lycan Palace," Bard couldn't help but murmur as he curiously gazed around.
However, he soon realized that he had said the wrong thing, then suddenly silenced his voice and gave me a somewhat worried look.
"Alpha, when we arrive here, plus Braum, there are only three of us in total. While we are facing an entire pack, it's not that I don't have confidence; it's just that we still weren't sure of Ms. Caitlyn's situation now."
"I mean, if Ms. Caitlyn doesn't want to come back with us, then what do we do?" Bard parked the car and turned his head to look at me seriously.
I knew exactly what Bard meant, of course, and all of this I'd considered. But ever since the connection between Caitlyn and I had been broken, I was in a state of panic.
I tried my best to divert my mind from what I was about to do, as I had never doubted my feelings for Caitlyn from the very start.
"There's no second option; no matter what happens, I'm getting Caitlyn back," I declared firmly. After uttering those words, I stepped out of the car, only to be confronted by two formidable guards from the Fullmoon pack.
"Hey, what are you guys doing? Don't you know where you are? Are you looking for death?" questioned a werewolf warrior who took the lead, eyeing Bard and me intently.
However, Bard, who initially seemed composed, had visibly shaken eyes after stepping out of the car.
"We're here for Zed," I asserted, moving forward.
"The Alpha doesn't have time for you poor guys."
As soon as the werewolf soldier uttered those words, Bard's massive form collided with him. With a dull yelp, the werewolf soldier was sent flying like a kite with a broken string.
"Damn," he muttered.
The other werewolf roared in frustration, pulling a small firework from his pocket. Brilliant fireworks cracked in the clear sky, summoning a large group of angry werewolf soldiers in no time.
"Bard, it's our turn now," I said, my mouth curving into a confident smile. My body trembled with excitement, and the wolf within me howled in response.
Facing the snarling wolf warriors, I growled loudly and transformed into a giant wolf to confront them. Dust filled the air, accompanied by the sounds of violence and screams, as the pungent smell of blood enveloped us.
After the tumultuous battle, the surroundings gradually quieted. Except for Bard and me, who stood firm, the other Fullmoon Pack members lay on the ground, moaning in pain.
"Alpha, it's been a long time since I've fought so fiercely," Bard remarked, shaking his head and spitting out a mouthful of bloodied saliva.
I nodded with a smile on my face and was just about to respond to Bard when suddenly, applause erupted from behind me.
"Talon, you're stronger than I expected," Zed stated as he stood in front of me, still wearing his signature fake smile.
At the sight of Zed, a surge of anger erupted inside me, and I looked at him coldly.
"What the hell did you do to Caitlyn? I'm taking her back."
"I remember telling you once that she is no one's vassal; it's her choice, and you have no right to interfere," Zed retorted calmly, looking at me with a smirk. It seemed like I was a joke in his eyes.
"It's a trap! You complete and utter liar!" I growled angrily at Zed.
Zed shrugged indifferently.
"Where's Caitlyn? I'm taking her now!"
I lowered myself to the ground, locking onto Zed's gaze and emitting a low, menacing noise.
"I don't know who you're talking about. Maybe you're looking for our new Gamma of the Fullmoon pack, Vayne," Zed spoke softly, confusing me with his words.
"Gamma? Vayne?" I mumbled in confusion.
I snapped back to the pain Caitlyn had suffered earlier, and the flames of anger consumed my sanity. I envisioned myself as a giant wolf, power filling my limbs as I opened my mouth, displaying sharp fangs, and lunged viciously towards Zed.
Not to be outdone, Zed transformed into a giant wolf in front of the crowd, his eyes glowing with an eerie purple color. With a roar, Zed charged against my attack.
But just as Zed and I made contact, a powerful attack came barreling towards me. Anticipating the consequences, I forced myself to hold back my anger, taking a few steps backward to narrowly dodge the attack.
As I stood still and turned my head to look, I realized that Caitlyn was standing not far from me. Unlike before, there was no emotion in her eyes as she looked at me, not even a hint of anger.
"Caitlyn?" I called out her name, but she didn't respond in any way.
Staring at me with a deadpan look, her eyes held a strange intensity, and without the slightest hesitation, she launched a new attack.
