Love after Divorce

21: Best Decision

Ch. 21 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

Mason narrates:

I think I've been sitting on the deck for an hour and a bit now. I've been thinking about what just happened with my wife, what I couldn't do.

I couldn't live with myself having kissed her in the state she's in. I am one hundred percent sure that she will not remember tomorrow anything she said and did tonight. At least since we went to the room.

I get up because I don't want them to think something bad happened, go up to our room and walk in very slowly. Paige is still asleep, and I watch her do something as simple as that, she looks beautiful.

I walk over and kiss her forehead.

“You have no idea what you're doing to me," I whisper.

After telling her that I lay down next to her and watch her sleep for a few more minutes, until I fall into the arms of Morpheus next to her.

Paige narrates:

I'm asleep and I hear them whispering something, besides feeling lips on my forehead, I don't manage to understand what Mason is telling me, because he's the only one who can do something like this.

It hurts me to know that I wanted to kiss him, being "drunk" but conscious and my husband didn't want to reciprocate my kiss. So, the only thing I could think to do was to keep my eyes closed as if I were really asleep when I wasn't.

When he goes to pick up Riley to take her to his room or I can't help but let a few tears of pain fall from feeling rejected, hurt from realizing that he will never see me as more than a sister. When I heard him leave Riley in the room, we assigned her I closed my eyes thinking he was coming in to sleep, but he wasn't. I waited to hear him come in. I kept waiting to hear him come in, however, I fell asleep from waiting so long.

When I feel him lie down next to me, I turn my back to him and continue sleeping. I don't go back to sleep when he lies down, I pretend to be asleep, so I don't have to answer uncomfortable questions.

uncomfortable questions. I think about what attitude to have tomorrow, rather, in a few more hours and the best I can do is pretend I don't remember anything, that he took me to bed, and I don't even remember how he got me to the room. That's the most convenient thing to do, at least for me.

I feel him moving in his sleep, how do I know, by breathing, I've learned to tell the difference when he's asleep because he always moves around a lot looking for my warmth. It's not that he hugs me or anything like that, it's just that with his feet he looks for my warmth, although sometimes it's annoying, I've gotten used to this.

I still don't move; I don't want him to know I'm awake. He's a light sleeper, when I get up, he wakes up quickly, although I'm almost always the one who always gets up later, or rather, I'm always the last one to get up.

This time my head hurts, so I don't want to and can't get up, at least not yet. I close my eyes again to try to sleep a little longer, I feel like I'm making it to the dream world, but a hand stops me. Yes, a hand on my waist, hugging me, as if we were a real couple. Not enough with that, I feel that he settles on my back to stick his body to mine, what the fuck is going on here?

This can't be happening, even less after he denied me a kiss, I'm not understanding anything. In all the nights we have been sleeping together, he had never, never, ever moved from his side to mine, I mean with his feet yes, but nothing else, it was impossible for me to imagine that this could happen, what I am living now.

Maybe the best thing I can do is to take his hand off my waist, which would be the right thing to do. Although thinking things through, I am supposed to be asleep and drunk, how can I feel his hand on my waist. Of course, it's a good answer to leave his hand where it is and pretend not to know anything, while I enjoy this moment as a normal couple who love and care for each other.

I let myself be carried away by the feeling of warmth that gives me his body glued to mine and I close my eyes letting myself be carried away by the sleep and the hangover I feel.

I don't know how many hours have passed, I try to move, and a body attached to mine in every possible way has me trapped in bed. This time I find myself staring at the ceiling and Mason has half his body on top of mine. I look at the clock on the wall in front of the bed and see its almost noon, it's the first time Mason is still asleep at this hour.

I'm about to clear my throat when the bedroom door is opened and a Sarah appears with a breakfast tray, it's not enough for her to just walk in without knocking, she shouts out.

“GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS”

The combination of her scream and the door makes Mason jolt awake.

"Good morning," I say timidly, covering myself with the blanket.

"Well, poor Paige, do you think it's appropriate to sleep like that, buddy?" Sarah scolds Mason.

"What?" he asks, running his hand through his hair to wake up properly.

"You were sleeping on top of the poor girl. You should be her pillow, not the other way around. You're embarrassing me, friend. I'll have to ask Ethan to advise you in that area. We don't want Paige to leave you. No other girl would put up with your temperament," Sarah says, rolling her eyes.

"I wasn't sleeping on top of Paige!" a blushing Mason exclaims.

"Of course, you were. I saw it. Besides, the poor thing was already awake. It's just that your massive body wouldn't let her move. You're so inconsiderate. You've crossed the line," Sarah continues scolding, causing me to laugh at our friend's indignation.

"Was he really sleeping on top of you?" Mason asks, looking at me.

"Just a little. I actually just woke up and didn't know how to let you know," I reply, bringing a hand to my head.

Damn hangover! How is it that Sarah is acting as if nothing happened? Was I the only one who drank so much? Of course not, I remember Riley fell asleep on the couch just like Sarah. Ethan was the one who took her to bed. Why is she so fine?

"I brought you some medicine, my friend. This will make you feel much better. Take it and hush," Sarah says, stretching out her hands.

In one hand, she has a glass with a liquid of questionable origin, while in the other, she holds two pills. I suppose they're for the hangover. I owe her, I don't want to face Sarah's anger, especially not this early. Seeing that I downed everything, she smiles and says,

"You can go back to sleep. In an hour, you'll feel as good as new, but you need to sleep a little for it to take effect faster. Trust me," she winks at me and leaves the room.

"What about me? Don't I get anything?" Mason yells at the door.

"You don't have a hangover like us," they reply in shouts from outside our room.
