Love after Divorce

19: I Drank Too Much

Ch. 19 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

The party is wonderful. Despite being small and with family, we have a very pleasant evening, laughing at Simba's mischief with the decorations.

My in-laws are the only ones who leave the house. They have their plans, but what surprises me is when they say goodbye and my mother-in-law tells me, "Darling, would you mind if we take Simba for the rest of the weekend? We have planned a trip to the countryside, and I'm sure Simba would be happy to have all that space to run. However, if you're not okay with it, I understand. He's your baby, and I'll accept whatever you say," she says nervously, with a smile.

"I have no problem with it. I'm not selfish enough to not let him be with you and just with me. Besides, it will be good for him to go out and have more space to run and explore," I reply. "If Mason agrees, I have no objections," I say, looking at my husband as he approaches me.

When he reaches my side, he wraps his arm around my waist and smiles at his mother. I'm not foolish enough to not notice that with every display of affection Mason shows towards me, Emily becomes more hopeful about our marriage.

"What are the most important women in my life talking about?" he asks, looking at me.

"I was telling Paige about the idea of taking Simba to the countryside. You know we'll be staying there this weekend until tomorrow night," my mother-in-law responds.

"What do you think, love?" he asks me directly.

"I agree. That way, our baby will have more space to run and enjoy the outdoors. Of course, if you support the idea," I say, looking at him with a hint of shyness.

Hearing that makes me choke on my own saliva. How can she say that? Well, she's been friends with Mason for many years, so she has enough trust to say it without sounding nosy.

I look around and everyone is refilling their glass. I guess I'll end up looking like a saint who has never had too much to drink in her life, which is not true. I've definitely gone overboard before, but to the point where I can't remember anything, no.

I have to admit that what Sarah is saying is not far from the truth. I've been drinking too much. Sometimes I can't even understand the questions properly because we're all speaking slowly and slurring our words. We're laughing at anything, and I don't even know why, but I do. We're entering a state of drunkenness. Well, not everyone. Mason and Ethan are less drunk than us, and that's admirable because I could swear, they've had more to drink than us. Stronger drinks too, like whisky and then tequila.

It must be because they have more practice with drinking. They probably have more years of experience in this than us, as well as more nights of partying. The game goes on, but the questions have become sillier. Like "I've never had a pet" or "I've never had red hair." Just excuses to drink while we laugh at anything.

The hours keep passing, and I feel my body getting restless and overheated. I need to stop drinking. I'm getting more and more drunk. I try to look at the time on my phone, but everything is blurry. It's confirmed, I'm too drunk for anything.

I feel someone grabbing my hand. I look up and see my handsome husband looking at me.

"Are you feeling, okay?" I think that's what he's asking.

"Will you take me to bed? I think I drank too much," I say with slurred speech.

"You're not the only one," he says, smiling.

I see where he's looking, and I realize that Riley fell asleep on the couch. Ethan is putting a blanket over her. Then he looks at us and says,

"I'll take Sarah to rest. Goodnight," he winks at Mason.

"We're going to bed too. I'll take Paige, and then I'll come back for Riley, so she doesn't sleep there," Mason replies. "Let's go to bed," he says, looking at me playfully.

"Are you proposing something naughty, husband?" I had already told them that my tongue gets loose when I drink too much.

"So much as undue no, we're married anyway "he replies winking I'm definitely too drunk, Mason wouldn't say something like that to me, or would he?
