Louisa's POV
Leo looked at me with an incredible look on his face.
"Louisa…… Is he telling the truth? Are you Lucas' mate?" he asked.
"Yes, Leo," I replied. "I thought Lucian had already told you about it."
The look on Leo's face immediately changed into a mixture of disappointment and anger. He didn't know that I could see him in the dark.
Even in the daylight, he still wasn't good at hiding his feelings.
The wheels of the carriage must have hit a stone or something and shook turbulently.
I grabbed Leo in my hand, but he abruptly pushed my hand away.
"Don't touch me!" Leo said anxiously. "I'll never believe you again! Lucas is right! Women are liars!"
I didn't know why he would act in this way.
"Leo, I have never lied to you..." I said.
"But you didn't tell me that you're Lucas' mate, either!" Will said indignantly. "I was so worried about you. And now it turns out that I'm like a joke! Are you laughing at me now?! Are you laughing at me, warlock?!" Leo roared and kicked the door with force again.
There was a crack in the door and some light leaked through the crack.
"Leo, chill out. Don't..." I tried to hold him but was thrown back to my seat because of the jolt.
"Don't talk to me! Do not ever talk to me again, Louisa!" Leo turned his head towards me and shouted.
I immediately recognized that look on his face. I saw the same vicious look on Lucas' face every time before he decided to kill.
Will snarled at Leo in my pocket. Snow jumped on top of my lap and held my pants tightly. I could see the hair on her back standing up.
They must be terrified. It's all because of me. I thought to myself and held them both in my arms.
Leo turned towards the door and kicked it again with all force.
The door was kicked open and Leo instantly jumped out of the carriage like a flash of light.
"Leo, don't!" I stretched out my arms and tried to grab him, but before I could move, the world in front of me was turned upside down.
It took me a brief moment to realize that this whole carriage was flying upside down in the air.
Everything in front of my eyes was either flying or turning.
For a brief moment, time seemed to stop.
Then, everything started to fall down.
"Louisa! We were falling off a cliff!" I heard Snow shouting. "We have to get out of the carriage!"
I held her and Will tightly in my arms before using all my effort to step on the seat behind me.
Then, I sprung out of the carriage through the door. I stretched out one of my arms and tried to grab something. Then, I saw a rope in front of me.
"Catch it, Miss!"
"We've got you!"
It was Mana and Mata's voice.
I grabbed the rope and stopped falling.
I looked down and saw the carriage flipping, falling all the way down the cliff before eventually crashing like a smashed pumpkin into a rock.
"Don't look down, Miss."
"Look at us! We'll pull you up!"
"We can't pull her up, Dickhead! We're too weak! We can only hold her like this."
"Shut up, potty mouth! She doesn't have to know about it! Now you're making her panic!"
"If you don't tell her the truth and keep holding her like this, then she'll freak out!"
I looked up and saw Mana and Mata holding the rope at the edge of the cliff.
The membranes of webbed hands were already torn, but they didn't have any intention of letting go.
Will jumped out of my pocket in a panic. He flapped its wings all the way onto the cliff and transformed into a human.
He helped Mana and Mata to grab the rope with his hands and said, "Don't worry, Louisa! I'm very good at dragging things around. I'll pull you up!"
The rope started to move upward.
Snow jumped off my shoulder and climbed swiftly up towards the top of the cliff.
The rope, being abrased by the sharp stones of the cliff, literally became a straw of hope for me.
And my straw of hope was getting thinner and thinner.
Just when I was about to be pulled to the top of the cliff, the torn rope eventually broke into two pieces, and in everyone's shout and scream...
I started to fall.
"No!!!" I shouted at the top of my lungs and stretched out my arm.
I knew my life was always on a thread, but I certainly didn't prepare to die in this way.
At that moment, two strong arms firmly grabbed my arm.
"Zowie guacamole! We've got you, Louisa! We've got you!" I heard Colt's voice.
I looked up and saw Alex and Colt grabbing my arm.
Together, they pulled me up to the ground.
"Louisa," Colt lay on the side of me, panting heavily, "I'm not complaining here, but my life... has become very eventful after I met you."
"I'm sorry, Colt... I... I'm really... sorry..." My heart was beating so violently that I couldn't even catch my breath.
Alex stretched out his hand towards me and helped me to get back to my feet. Then, he pulled Colt up.
I noticed red marks on both of their wrists and forearms.
They must have been chained up by Darren.
"Sorry, Alex. It's all my fault," I apologized. "I would do everything to reimburse the damage to the carriage."
I didn't know how much a carriage like that would cost, but I knew what a carriage like that meant to Alex.
"You don't have to apologize to me, Miss Louisa. It's not your fault." Alex said in a soft voice. "I could always build a new one. You're alive. That's the only thing that matters."
"Thank you for saving my life, guys," I looked around at everyone and said.
Will jumped into my arms and held me tightly. Snow was on his shoulder, wrapping us with her tail.
Mana and Mata stood next to us while looking up at me. It looked like they wanted to join the hug out, but were hesitant.
I bent down and hugged both of them.
"Thank you for hanging there for me," I said, pressing my face against their cold, slimy heads.
"She's hugging us. I can't believe it. Someone is hugging us, dickhead!"
"Can't you just shut up once and enjoy the moment?! You've ruined everything!"
"Are you crying, dickhead? I'm asking because I am."
"Yes, of course, I am! We shouldn't cry! We made a promise to her!"
"If she didn't see us, then we didn't break our promise!"
Then, both of them covered their faces and fled in embarrassment.
Looking at their backs, I sighed and looked around.
"What exactly happened?" I asked Colt.
