I didn’t know where I was going until I ended up at the park, the cool night air biting at my skin. I collapsed onto a bench, my whole body trembling as the tears finally came. I buried my face in my hands, the weight of humiliation and betrayal pressing down on me like a physical force.
The sound of footsteps made me look up. Logan stood a few feet away, his face pale, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. “Emma—”
“Don’t,” I snapped. “Don’t say my name like you care.”
He stepped closer. “I didn’t know she was going to—”
“Did you show her those messages?”
Logan hesitated, and the silence was deafening.
“Oh my God,” I whispered, my stomach twisting. “You did. You gave them to her.”
“Emma, I didn’t think she’d—”
“You didn’t think?!” My voice rose, echoing in the empty park. I shot to my feet, my hands trembling with fury. “You didn’t think that giving my private messages to someone like Vanessa might end badly?”
“I didn’t give them to her! She must’ve seen my phone, or—”
“Or what?! You didn’t care enough to stop her? To protect me? You let her use me as a joke, Logan!”
His face twisted, guilt flickering in his eyes. “I swear, Emma. I didn’t want this to happen.”
“But it did happen,” I said, my voice breaking. “Because you were careless. Because you didn’t care enough about me to keep this safe. Because…I…I was just one of your toys!”
Logan reached for me, but I stepped back, shaking my head, my voice trembling. “Don’t touch me.”
“Emma, please—”
“I trusted you,” I whispered, the words tasting like ash. “I let you in. And you just handed her the ammunition to destroy me.”
“I didn’t mean to hurt you. You mean more to me than—”
“Stop,” I wiped up my cheeks with trembling hands. “Just... don’t talk to me ever again.”
I walked away, my heart shattering with every step.
“Emma!” he called after me, his voice echoing in the dark. But I didn’t look back.
