I Wanna Ruin Our Friendship

Vanessa’s chance

Ch. 133 / 162 Apr 09, 2026

Later that evening, we drove to Vanessa’s house. I sat in the passenger seat, fidgeting nervously as Jake parked the car.

“Are you sure about this?” he asked, glancing at me.

“No,” I admitted. “But it’s the right thing to do.”

He nodded, and we stepped out of the car, walking up the driveway together.

Vanessa opened the door after the second knock, her expression immediately turning suspicious when she saw me standing there.

“What are you doing here?” she asked coldly, her gaze flicking between me and Jake.

“We need to talk,” I said, my voice steady despite the tension in the air.

She crossed her arms, leaning against the doorframe. “About what?”

Jake stepped forward, his tone calm but firm. “About the truth, Vanessa. About what happened with you and Professor Mitchell.”

Her expression hardened, and she tried to close the door, but Jake stopped her, his hand on the frame.

“Vanessa, please,” I said, stepping closer. “We’re not here to hurt you. We just want to help.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Help? That’s rich coming from you.”

“Vanessa,” Jake said, his voice gentle but insistent. “You don’t have to keep hiding. You didn’t do anything wrong. What happened to you wasn’t your fault, and it’s not fair for you to carry that alone.”

She hesitated, her grip on the door loosening slightly.

“You don’t understand,” she said, her voice shaking. “It’s not that simple.”

“It is,” I said quietly. “Vanessa, you’re not the one who should be ashamed. He is. Professor Mitchell took advantage of you, and he’s the one who should face the consequences. Not you, not your baby.”

Tears welled in her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away, trying to keep her composure.

“And what do you think is going to happen if I tell the truth?” she said bitterly. “People will talk. They’ll judge me. I got knocked off by someone old enough to be my father. My parents will never forgive me.”

“Your parents don’t deserve to control your life anymore,” Jake said firmly. “This isn’t about them. This is about you—and about making sure Mitchell doesn’t hurt anyone else.”

Vanessa looked at me then, her eyes filled with something I hadn’t seen before. Vulnerability.

“Why do you care?” she asked softly. “After everything I’ve done to you... why do you care what happens to me?”

“Because you deserve better than this,” I said honestly. “And because I know what it feels like to live in a lie. It’s not worth it, Vanessa. You don’t have to keep running.”

For a long moment, she didn’t say anything. Then, finally, she stepped back, opening the door wider.

“Come in,” she said quietly.

Jake and I exchanged a glance before stepping inside.

This wasn’t going to be easy, but for the first time, it felt like there was a chance for something better.

A chance for the truth.
