I Wanna Ruin Our Friendship

The Truth Confirmed

Ch. 127 / 162 Apr 09, 2026

Alyssa hesitated, clutching her bag like it was a lifeline. “I’m not sure if I should do this,” she said softly, her voice quivering.

Sarah turned to her, her voice sharp and commanding in a way I’d never heard before. “Let’s do it, Alyssa.”

There was no room for argument. Sarah wasn’t usually this firm, but today, she was different—focused, determined.

Finally, Alyssa pulled something out of her bag. It was a folded piece of paper, slightly crumpled from being tucked away. She handed it to Sarah, who glanced at it before handing it to me.

“I love her,” Alyssa said, her voice cracking. “But she can’t keep living like this, Emma. Not like this. And neither can you or Logan.”

I unfolded the paper with trembling hands, already knowing what it was. I recognized the format instantly—the bold letters, the official seal.

It was a paternity test.

And there it was, in black and white: Professor Mitchell, listed as the biological father of Vanessa’s baby.

The confirmation hit me like a wave, but it wasn’t a wave of shock or disbelief. It was relief.

I already knew the truth, but seeing it written there, undeniable and irrefutable, made my chest feel lighter. For weeks, I had been carrying this burden, this knowledge that could unravel everything Vanessa had built her lies on. And now, here it was, handed to me like a gift.

My breath caught, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I felt hope.

Tears welled up in my eyes, but they weren’t tears of sorrow or anger. They were tears of release, of knowing that the truth couldn’t be hidden anymore.

“This is her records,” I whispered, clutching the paper tightly. “This is the proof I need.”

Sarah sat beside me, her expression softening. “I know, and now you have it. She can’t lie her way out of this anymore.”

Alyssa, still sitting on the edge of the couch, looked at me nervously. “I found it in her bag,” she said hesitantly. “She left her stuff, and the paper was sticking out. I didn’t mean to pry, but... I saw it.”

I looked at her, my tears spilling over as I shook my head. “You did the right thing, Alyssa. Thank you.”

She gave me a small, shaky smile, but I could see the conflict in her eyes. She cared about Vanessa, despite everything.

My mind raced as I stared at the paper in my hands. This was the proof Logan needed—the proof I needed. It was the key to unraveling Vanessa’s lies and finally setting us free.

But another thought crept in, unbidden.

Vanessa’s life was built on pain and survival. She wasn’t just lying to manipulate Logan; she was lying to survive the world she had created for herself. The world where her parents blamed her, where she felt like she had no choice but to carry this secret alone.

For a moment, I felt a flicker of pity for her. Not enough to excuse what she’d done, but enough to understand why she had done it.

“She’s scared,” I said quietly, more to myself than anyone else. “She’s scared of what will happen if the truth comes out.”

“That doesn’t make it okay,” Sarah said firmly. “Being scared doesn’t give her the right to destroy other people’s lives, Emma. She’s done enough damage.
