" Ethan". I tell him and huff our humorless laugh.
" That meat head? And you sent him off with your mate? I hope she sleeps with him while that is gone. I bet they are really cozy right now laughing about how that both played you for the Luna and Beta position . They will never be loyal to you, not like me. He says, and the kernel of doubt I had about then begins to grow in me at his words, but I try to push it away. I would feel it if he touched her anyway and I haven't felt anything like that.
" You are dismissed, Steve ". He gives me a hard look before he scoffs and pushes himself out of the chair storming out of my office and slamming the door behind him.
I stayed in my office for a while doing paperwork that my father has started forcing me to do. He calls it part of my training , but I just think he hates doing it. I didn't notice how late it was until I felt Rachel press against my mind. A smile flashes across my face and I throw my pen down on the desk.
" Hey sweetheart ". I said and I could even hear how tired I was.
" You already?" She inquires and my heart warms up at her concern.
" Yeah, just that I had to talk to Steve today" I say and she hums in understanding.
" He didn't take the break up well I took it?" She asks and I huff out a laugh.
" He did not". I admit scrubbing my hand down my face.
Let me guess he barely had a fight? She asked and I smiled at her ability to read people well.
" Nope, he barely said a word ". I tell her and she grunt.
" Pussy" she said and I couldn't stop myself from laughing out loud, I heard her giggles and smile.
" You are the highlight of my day, sweetheart" . How was your day?did you see anything interesting ? I asked and I could feel that she was thinking about my question. "I saw some good ideas at the pack hospital. I like the way they staff it, and their trauma base setup . It makes more sense than ours" she says and I nod, even though she can see me right now.
" Add it to your list. We will look at it". I say , what about the pack itself? Do you like it so far? I am nervous about her answer.
" Ehn, they are nice, but they haven't really made an effort to welcome us. The alpha son is my new bestie though . He follows me around all day. She says giggling.
" How is Dave?" I ask because I was quite fond of the little cutie the last time I saw him.
" Good, he is four not six" she said amused and I chuckled.
" I was close, what are you doing now?" I ask and she sighs.
" We just got back from dinner . This remote location means fruit and vegetables are hard to come by. I'd kill for an apple . But just going to read a little before going to bed " she says and I remember laying on her bed next to her. reading with her and a deep sense of belongingness filled me.
" I had probably better eat". I tell her and she gasps.
" It's late Gabriel, go get some food and head to bed". She instructed me and I smiled at her bossy attitude.
" Yes sweetheart". I will sleep tight.
" Goodnight" she responded shortly after that I felt the link break. I feel a little better knowing that she wasn't obsessed with the other pack, but it had only been a day.
" How did today go?" I ask Ethan and I feel him accept the link.
" Fine, she seems a little lonely, I'm not much for a conversation . She tries to talk to a few girls of our age, but they seem wary of new people ``. He says and a little bit of hope flickers in me.
" Alright, let me know if there are any issues ". I told him.
" Yes, Alpha ". He responded with a touch of annoyance in his tone as he cut the link , I can't help but chuckle. It feels good to have someone challenge me sometimes.
Rachel
The rest of the week seemed to crawl by, the people in the pack were nice, but they didn't seem willing to include me and Ethan in anything. And since the pack is far away from any kind of civilization, there was nothing to do, no movie theater, no book store, not even a cafe or something. So we had to spend most of our time in the cabin. My conversation with Gabriel started becoming the highlight of the day. I couldn't tell if he liked me linking him three times a day, but he didn't complain about it.
" I didn't think I would be so excited to move on to the next pack. But the only thing I will miss here is Dave. The little guy even had. Slept over last night, and we watched cartoons and ate snacks like it was going out of style. For a four year old he's an excellent conversationalist. Much better than Ethan who prefers to chop woods all day or throw tractor tires around for hours than have a twenty minute conversation with me.
As the day to leave arrives, I sent Ethan on a run since the drive to the next pack was going to take us hour before getting there and I don't want to hear him whinnying about been stuck in the car for hours again, while he was gone I also went to the Alpha to greet him goodbye myself, when I got to the door of his office I knocked and he signaled for me to come into his office and I sit across from him.
" Thank you again for allowing us to visit ". I tell him politely and he nods while eyeing me curiously.
" Were you ever going to tell me Gabriel was your mate?" He asked, stunning me. My mouth gape and I stumble over for my next word.
" How did you know?" I ask and he continues to study me.
