Carrying the Lycan Cursed child

chapter 5

Ch. 5 / 30 Mar 26, 2026

POV Kali

The air on the balcony felt tense and dangerous. I stood frozen between two powerful Alphas - my husband's panic and rage fighting against the Lycan King's calm authority. Zion had just declared I was his fated mate, and now everything was different.

Kastian's face kept changing - confusion, then anger, then pure terror as he realized what this meant.

"Your Majesty," he stammered, his voice shaking, "surely there's been some mistake. Kali is already mated to me. We've been bound for eight years. She cannot simply—"

Zion cut him off with a low growl that made every wolf instinct in my body want to submit. The sound sent shivers down my spine.

"There is no mistake," he said, his voice carrying centuries of royal power. "She is my fated mate."

The words shocked the growing crowd of nobles. I could hear gasps and whispers erupting from the glass doors where people had gathered to watch. The Lycan King had found his mate, but she was married to another Alpha.

I stood between them, my whole world falling apart and rebuilding at the same time. This was impossible. Kastian and I were chosen mates - our families had arranged our marriage, and we'd grown to love each other. That was how it worked for most werewolves.

But this was different. This was what the stories talked about - true mates, destined by the Moon Goddess herself.

The bond with Zion pulsed through my blood, making me aware of every breath he took, every beat of his heart. It was nothing like what I'd shared with Kastian. With my husband, our connection had been warm and comfortable, gentle. Once..This was powerful and overwhelming, demanding my complete attention.

Oh my goddess, what was I feeling? It had never been like this with Kastian, not even in our best days. My skin felt alive everywhere Zion had touched me. My wolf was practically purring, more alert than she'd been in months.

"She bears my mark!" Kastian said desperately, gesturing to the barely visible scar on my neck where he'd bitten me eight years ago. "She is Luna of Crescent Moon Pack. You cannot simply steal another Alpha's mate!"

Zion's silver eyes flashed dangerously. "Watch me," he said, stepping closer to me.

When his hand grabbed my arm again, the mate bond flared through me powerfully. I gasped out loud, my knees almost giving out. Oh my goddess, why did I want him this much?

What was happening to me?

I became aware of everything happening around us. The crowd was getting bigger, more nobles pushing closer to see what was happening. Their whispers were getting louder, more excited. Some looked shocked, others seemed thrilled by the drama. A few of the older Alphas looked angry, probably thinking about their own political alliances.

But somehow, none of it felt real anymore. The politics, the treaties, the arrangements my father had made - it all seemed distant and unimportant compared to this overwhelming pull I felt toward Zion.

"No!" Kastian shouted, his composure completely breaking. "This is impossible! We're married! We have treaties, alliances - you can't just take my wife because of some supposed mate bond!"

More Alphas rushed onto the balcony, including my father. Alpha Edmund Silverwood immediately dropped into a bow before frantically trying to fix this disaster.

"Your Majesty," my father said desperately, "surely we can discuss this in a civilized manner. Perhaps compensation, a different arrangement that would satisfy everyone—"

But Zion wasn't listening to politics. His silver eyes were focused entirely on me, and I felt lost in their depths. Something about his gaze calmed the chaos in my mind, made everything feel right.

"Come with me," he said softly, so only I could hear. His voice was gentle now, nothing like the commanding tone he'd used with the others. "I can smell your loneliness."

His words broke something inside me that had been carefully built over years of disappointment. When had anyone cared about my sadness?

Behind us, the arguments were getting louder. Kastian was demanding his rights as my husband, other nobles were debating the legal problems this would cause. But I barely heard them. All I could focus on was this man who looked at me like I was precious, like I was wanted.

"This will destroy everything!" Kastian was shouting now, his Alpha composure completely gone. "Our packs, our families, our alliances - you're destroying eight years of marriage for what? Some fantasy about fated mates?"

"Please, Your Majesty," my father begged, "think of the political consequences. My daughter's honor, our family's reputation—"

But Zion extended his hand to me, palm up. Not demanding, not commanding - offering. Giving me a choice.

I stared at that outstretched hand and realized something stunning. This was my choice. Not my father's choice when he arranged my marriage. Not my husband's choice to replace me with a second wife. Mine.

Oh my goddess, what would happen next? This feeling rushing through me was strong, and overwhelming. But when I looked into Zion's silver eyes, everything felt right. This was exactly where I was supposed to be.

The entire ballroom behind us had gone silent. Hundreds of nobles were watching this drama unfold, waiting to see what I would do.

"Kali, don't you dare!" Kastian screamed, all pretense of dignity gone. "I forbid it! You're my wife! You belong to me and my pack! You can't just abandon everything we've built!"

As I slowly reached toward Zion's hand, Kastian made one last desperate attempt to stop me.

"If you do this," he hissed, "you'll destroy both our families. The political ramifications alone will ruin us all!"

Zion's response was calm and final. "The only thing being destroyed tonight is your claim on what was never truly yours."

My fingers touched his palm, and the world exploded into sensation.
