Carrying the Lycan Cursed child

chapter 24

Ch. 24 / 30 Mar 26, 2026

POV Kali

I was barely holding onto life. Each breath required conscious effort, and speaking cost precious energy that I needed to keep our child alive. My body felt like it was slowly dissolving from the inside, consumed by the supernatural demands of carrying Zion's heir.

"The birth could happen any time now," Healer Morwyn announced during her daily visit. Her face was serious with worry as she examined my weakened condition. "But Your Majesty, I must be honest. I'm not sure your body can survive the delivery in its current state."

The words didn't shock me anymore. I had felt death approaching for weeks, creeping closer each day despite the energy Zion shared with me each night. My skin had become so pale it was almost transparent.

Zion sat next to me, holding my hand with fingers that shook from exhaustion. We both looked like ghosts of our former selves, bound together by a love that was literally consuming us both.

"Then we go ahead with the ritual," he said firmly. "The life force transfer preparation is ready?"

"Everything is prepared," Morwyn confirmed, though her scent carried deep uncertainty. "The chamber has been set up according to the ancient books. Crystals from the Northern caves, silver blessed by moonlight, herbs gathered during the dark moon. But I must warn you both again. This ritual is based on theory and old stories."

"Hope is all we have left," I whispered, though speaking those few words left me breathless.

Over the past weeks, palace workers had transformed the old ceremonial chamber into something otherworldly. Ancient symbols had been carved deep into the stone floor, their grooves filled with molten silver that gleamed in the candlelight. Enormous crystals stood at the four cardinal directions, each one pulsing with collected magical energy.

"The timing must be perfect," Morwyn explained as she made final adjustments. "The life force transfer can only happen during the exact moment of birth, when the child's connection to both parents is strongest and the barrier between life and death is thinnest."

I watched her arrange silver instruments on a specially prepared table. Each tool had been blessed according to rituals found in books so old their pages crumbled at the slightest touch.

"What if the ritual fails?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Then we try everything else we know," Morwyn said gently. "But Your Majesty, you must understand. Even if the ritual works perfectly, the energy demands of a supernatural birth are enormous."

Outside our sanctuary, the kingdom balanced on the edge of chaos. Beta James brought increasingly urgent reports about external threats.

"Kastian's alliance has gathered their armies," he reported quietly. "The combined force numbers in the thousands. They're demanding your abdication and Queen Kali's immediate return."

"Let them come," Zion said with what little authority he could still project. "My place is here, with my mate and child."

"Your Majesty, the kingdom's defenses—"

"The kingdom needs an heir who can break this curse forever," Zion interrupted. "That's my duty now. You'll coordinate the defense while we focus on what matters most."

"How close are they?" I asked, feeling contractions beginning to build in my lower back.

"Two days, maybe less," James replied grimly. "They're moving faster than expected, probably hoping to arrive while Your Majesty is occupied."

The timing felt like cruel destiny. Our child was preparing to be born just as enemies gathered to destroy everything we had built together.

As evening fell, the first real contractions began. They started as waves of supernatural energy that made the very air around me shimmer with golden light.

"It's starting," I gasped, gripping Zion's hand as otherworldly power ran through my body.

The contractions felt different from anything I had expected. Instead of just physical pain, each wave brought visible magical effects. The crystals in our chamber began to glow brighter, responding to the supernatural nature of our child.

"How do you feel?" Zion asked, helping me stand so we could move to the ritual chamber.

"Scared," I admitted. "But also ready. I'm tired of fighting just to survive each day. Whatever happens, at least we'll know soon."

Within minutes, we were in the ritual chamber, surrounded by weeks of desperate preparation. The magical energy in the room was so thick I could taste it. Every crystal blazed with collected power, every silver line glowed with ancient magic.

"I can feel the child's eagerness to be born," Morwyn murmured, checking the various mystical instruments she had arranged around the ritual space. "Their power signature is extraordinary."

Another contraction seized me, stronger than the previous ones, and this time the golden light became so intense that everyone had to shield their eyes. I could feel our child's supernatural nature preparing for emergence into the world.

Through the chamber's high windows, we could see orange glows on the horizon. Fires burned in the distance where Kastian's forces had begun their assault on the outer territories.

"They're moving faster than James expected," Zion observed, but he didn't move from my side. His decision was absolute. Whatever happened to his kingdom, he would be here for his child's birth.

"Are you sure you shouldn't help with the defense?" I asked.

"No," he said firmly. "My place is here. James can handle the military situation. I need to be with you and our child."

The contractions were getting stronger and more frequent. Each wave of pain brought corresponding surges of magical energy that made the entire chamber pulse with golden light.

"The energy demands are increasing rapidly," Morwyn said urgently. "Your Majesty, we need to begin the transfer ritual now, or we'll lose them both."

Zion positioned himself according to the ancient instructions we had studied for weeks. His hands found mine across the silver symbols that would either save us or mark our doom.

"I'm ready," he said simply.

"Are you?" I asked, looking into his silver eyes one last time. "Really ready to give everything for this?"

"I've been ready since the moment I found you," he replied. "Our love created this miracle. Our sacrifice will make sure it survives."

As the life force transfer began, I felt Zion's essence flowing into me with power unlike anything I had experienced before. But I also felt something extraordinary. Our child's consciousness was already present, already aware, trying to minimize the cost to both parents.

"The baby knows what's happening," I whispered. "They're trying to protect us both."

"Because they're ours," Zion said, his voice getting weaker. "They carry the best of both bloodlines."

The sounds of battle were now echoing through the palace hallways, growing closer with each passing hour. But inside our magical sanctuary, the only thing that mattered was bringing our child safely into the world.
