Who's My Triplet's Alpha Daddy?

Chapter 53

Ch. 53 / 245 Apr 30, 2026

Lysander's POV

The great hall feels different in the morning light.

I stand at the center where yesterday Thalia made her choice, where my heart shattered into pieces I'm still learning to carry. The pack gathers at my request, confusion evident in their faces. They expected the crisis to be over. They expected me to disappear quietly into whatever future awaits a rejected suitor.

They didn't expect me to call them together one final time.

Kieran stands near the front, his expression guarded, protective. Thalia beside him, her hand in his, the picture of unified leadership that the pack demanded. When our eyes meet, I see the grief she's carrying—the same grief I feel, reflected back at me through the woman who chose duty over love.

My father positions himself at the edge of the gathering, arms crossed, waiting to see what his younger son will do. Whether I'll make this harder or accept what cannot be changed.

"Thank you for coming." My voice carries through the hall, steady despite the chaos inside me. "I know yesterday was difficult for everyone. I know my actions created uncertainty and fear. I asked you here to address that directly."

The wolves shift, exchange glances. Some supported my challenge, and others condemned it. All of them wait to see which direction I'll take now.

"I stand before you today to make my position clear." I straighten my spine, call on every ounce of composure I possess. "I honor the decision of Alpha Magnus Fenris, of Alpha heir Kieran Fenris, and of Luna Thalia Fenris. The leadership structure of this pack remains intact, as it should."

Murmurs ripple through the crowd. Relief on some faces, disappointment on others.

"I formally withdraw any claim to leadership beyond my rightful place as Alpha brother." The words taste like ash, but I speak them clearly. "I will not contest Kieran's authority. I will not challenge Thalia's choice. I will not seek to undermine what they are building together."

Elder Margaret steps forward, her expression sharp with suspicion. "And what guarantees do we have that this withdrawal is sincere? Yesterday you challenged the entire succession structure."

"You have my word." I meet her eyes without flinching. "I understand that may not seem like much after what I did. But I also understand what continued conflict would cost us."

"Which is what, exactly?" Marcus's voice cuts through, demanding clarity.

"Everything." I turn to address him directly. "If I continued fighting, if I refused to accept Luna's choice, this pack would tear itself apart. The factions that formed yesterday would harden into permanent divisions. Wolves would be forced to choose sides, and families would fracture along those lines."

I pause, let the truth of it settle. "I am not willing to pay that price. No matter how much my heart rebels against what I'm saying, destruction would cost all of us more than I am willing to take."

Catherine speaks from near the back, her voice carrying clearly. "You loved her. Everyone saw it yesterday when she made her choice. How do we know that love won't drive you to fight again?"

The question strikes deep, and I take a moment before answering.

"I do love her." No point denying what the entire pack witnessed. "I will probably love her for the rest of my life, in whatever quiet corner of my heart I learn to contain it." I glance at Thalia, see the tears she's fighting to suppress. "But loving someone doesn't mean owning them, doesn't mean I have the right to their choices or their future."

I turn back to the pack, force strength into my voice. "Thalia made her decision freely, for reasons I respect even if they cause me pain. She chose stability over personal desire. She chose her children's future over her own heart's wants. That kind of sacrifice deserves honor, not resentment."

Kieran steps forward, his expression unreadable. "What will you do now? Where does the younger Fenris go when he's stepped back from everything he was fighting for?"

"I'll return to Colorado." The decision crystallized somewhere in the sleepless hours of last night. "The Fenris Group expansion needs leadership, and I can serve the family's interests from there without creating tension here."

"Running away?" The challenge in his voice is mild, almost gentle.

"Creating distance." I hold his gaze. "Staying would only deepen the wound—for me, for Thalia, for everyone who would have to watch us navigate something none of us know how to handle. Space will help us all heal."

Father moves forward, his authority settling over the gathering. "My son speaks wisdom, even if it comes from a painful place. The pack should acknowledge his grace in stepping aside when a lesser man would have continued fighting."

"I'm not asking for acknowledgement." I shake my head. "I challenged the structure because I believed it needed challenging, and I withdraw that challenge because I see now that the cost would be too high."

The hall goes quiet. Every wolf present processing what I've said, what it means for the pack's future.

"Luna made her choice." My voice drops, carrying emotion I can't fully suppress. "That choice is final, and I accept it. Not with joy—I won't pretend this doesn't feel like being torn apart—but with respect for the woman who made an impossible decision with more courage than I've ever witnessed."

I look at Thalia one last time. She stands beside Kieran, tears streaming down her face now, her hand pressed to her mouth.

"Take care of them." I address Kieran directly. "Your mate and your children. The pack that depends on you both. You have something precious—don't waste it on old patterns that almost destroyed everything."

"I won't." His voice is rough. "I promise you that."

I nod slowly, accepting his word even though part of me still wants to fight for what I've lost. "Then I have nothing more to say."

I turn and walk toward the exit, each step carrying me further from the life I wanted, the woman I love, the family I imagined building. The pack parts silently, wolves stepping aside to let me pass without meeting my eyes.

At the doorway, I pause. Look back over my shoulder at the hall where so much has changed in such a short time.

Thalia watches me from a distance, her crown feeling heavier than ever—I can see it in the way she holds herself, the grief she's trying to contain for the sake of appearances. Our eyes meet across the space between us, and I pour everything I can't say into that final look.

Gratitude for what we shared. Sorrow for what we'll never have. Understanding that her choice, while it broke me, came from love for her children and duty to her pack.

Then I turn and walk through the doors, leaving behind the great hall and everyone in it.

The morning sun is harsh after the hall's shadows. I stand in the courtyard for a moment, breathing air that feels different now. Cleaner somehow, despite the ache in my chest.

Walking away hurts more than any fight ever could. The instinct to turn back, to demand one more chance, to prove that I can be what she needs—it screams inside me with every step I take toward the parking area.

But staying would only deepen the wound. For all of us.

I climb into my car, start the engine, pull away from the Fenris estate without looking in the rearview mirror. Colorado waits—new challenges, a life I'll build from the wreckage of what I lost here.

The thought that carries me forward is simple, painful, and true. Loving her doesn't mean owning her. Sometimes loving someone means letting them go.
