Unwanted Mate

Chapter 147

Ch. 147 / 165 Jun 23, 2025

  Guilt, helplessness, fear, rage...

Jeremy was consumed by a mix of emotions, like a raging battle in his mind, tearing at his sanity without mercy. His head was going to split open under their relentless assault.

Every time he squeezed his eyes shut, the vivid image of Celeste being taken away invaded his mind, playing on a loop like a tormenting film. He could see it clearly. The hunter leaped off the vehicle, fingers tightly gripping Celeste's fur before callously tossing her inside.

His gaze was fixated on Celeste, his feet propelling him forward, desperate to bridge the agonizingly short distance between them. But to him, that distance felt like an unfathomable expanse stretching across billions of light-years. No matter how fast he ran or how much effort he poured into igniting his strength, he couldn't catch up, no matter how desperately he chased.

Faintly, the whistling of bullets brushed past his ears, catching his peripheral vision with their glimmering silver. But he couldn't care less about the danger. All that mattered was Celeste.

Those motherfuckers were snatching away his Celeste! He wouldn't allow them to lay a finger on her. He couldn't bear the thought of them taking her away from his side.

The unmistakable scent of wolfsbane permeated his nostrils, instinctively sending a shiver down his spine. Yet, it did little to dampen his relentless pace.

His eyes remained locked on Celeste's figure, longing to reassure her, to tell her not to be afraid, that he was right there beside her. He swore to make those hunters pay for their audacity, vowing never to let them separate him from her.

But in the blink of an eye, reality sneered at him as the hunters cruelly slammed shut the car door.

As the door sealed shut, Jeremy lost the connection with Celeste. A sudden surge of fear gripped him as if that door had severed the invisible bond that tied them together.

Driven by desperation, he lunged forward, determined to catch up with the fleeing vehicle. He vowed to eradicate every single one of those hunters who dared to lay a finger on Celeste. But the hunters were oblivious to his curses. The engine roared to life, and the car reversed, widening the gap between Jeremy and Celeste once again.

Gritting his teeth, Jeremy dug his feet into the ground and pushed himself forward, accelerating like a lightning bolt toward the moving vehicle. He could practically feel the earth quiver beneath his pounding footsteps as if the very ground wanted to lend him a hand and propel him faster.

  Faster! Faster!

The echoes of howling wolves chased after him, their defeat hanging heavy in the air. They hadn't even had a chance to fight back before the hunters came crashing down on them. The wolf pack was in utter disarray. But Jeremy couldn't afford to dwell on that now. His eyes were locked on the car, his heart fueling a determination that knew no limits. No matter the price, he would bring Celeste back.

No matter how hard he pushed, no matter how swift his stride was, the distance between him and the vehicle didn't seem to be shortened even for a bit. The hunters inside had their guns pointed straight at him, their barrels protruding menacingly from the windows. Dodging their bullets while in full sprint added an extra challenge, momentarily widening the gap between them.

Jeremy gritted his teeth. Not even a barrage of gunfire could dampen his resolve to catch up with that car. He was going to shred those hunters apart.

The hunters on board the vehicle, too, sensed Jeremy's unyielding pursuit. Jeremy was sure they could see his bared fangs and the primal hunger gleaming in his eyes. Their gunfire gradually dwindled, a clear sign that their ammunition was running low. The car revved up its engine, speeding ahead and leaving the other vehicles behind in its wake.

Jeremy's heart skipped a beat. If he could, he would burst into laughter. It was like the universe was handing him a golden opportunity on a silver platter, and he couldn't help but feel giddy with excitement.

With a renewed burst of energy, he quickened his pace, determined to catch up to the vehicle. But to his utter surprise, the vehicle sprouted another barrel from within, except this time it didn't shoot bullets. Instead, it unleashed a fine mist that hung in the air like a delicate spider's web.

Jeremy's mind raced as he realized what the mist was. He still remembered how Celeste had been ensnared in its watery embrace, rendering her helpless before the hunter whisked her away.

Yet, despite the imminent danger, he couldn't afford to stop. Driven by instinct and fueled by adrenaline, he leaped to the side, narrowly evading the misty trap. But the ephemeral fog swiftly dissipated into the air, akin to a dissipating virus. In that fleeting moment, it managed to infiltrate Jeremy's nostrils, tingling with a hint of discomfort as it invaded his lungs.

Undeterred, Jeremy continued his relentless pursuit of the car, his determination burning like a raging fire within him. Suddenly, the vehicle unleashed another burst of mist, but this time Jeremy was prepared. He skillfully sidestepped the hunter's snare, refusing to fall into their cleverly laid trap. Still, the air grew heavier with the scent of wolfsbane, filling the surroundings with an eerie and suffocating fog. It blurred his vision, making it difficult to discern the path ahead.

Blinking rapidly, he fought to clear his sight, desperately trying to keep the armored vehicle within his line of vision. His head throbbed painfully, and the pounding was going to shatter his skull. The fog seemed to swallow his surroundings, engulfing everything in a hazy mist.

With unwavering determination, he strained his eyes, focusing on the disappearing vehicle. Jeremy yearned to infuse his legs with a burst of strength, to defy the odds and narrow the gap between them. But his efforts were in vain. His body betrayed him, sluggish and unresponsive, as if ensnared by an invisible force. Every step he took felt like wading through quicksand, dragging him deeper into exhaustion.

Finally, as the vehicle vanished completely from his sight, Jeremy's stamina gave out, and he crumpled to the ground in a heap of exhaustion. The echoes of the vehicle's roaring engine still reverberated in his ears, a bitter reminder of his failed pursuit.

But faintly, a haunting chorus of wolf howls grew louder, drawing closer with each passing moment.
