Unwanted Mate

Chapter 158

Ch. 158 / 165 Jun 23, 2025

Jeremy and the rest of the wolves finally arrived at Wolf Town.

As soon as Jeremy stepped out of the car, a peculiar sensation tingled through his body, leaving him bewildered. His heart skipped a beat, and he could feel a distinct surge in the connection between him and Celeste as if someone had turned up the volume.

Without a doubt, Celeste was here, but where the heck was she? Where were the hunters hiding her? Jeremy closed his eyes, desperately trying to follow the invisible thread that bound him to her. It felt like Celeste's presence was swirling in every direction, teasing his senses. With every breath, he almost caught a whiff of her intoxicating scent, but dang it, where was she hiding? He was utterly disoriented, like a compass gone haywire.

This sensation felt all too familiar. It reminded him of when Celeste had slipped away with the rogues before.

Back then, he had been plagued by the same feeling, an uncanny awareness that Celeste was close, yet completely clueless about the right direction to pursue. But heck, back then it took him days of tireless searching, and only with Nick's help did he finally find her.

Now, was he doomed to repeat the same agonizing process? Hunters were sly snakes compared to those rogues, and he had no idea if he could crack the case and track down Celeste in such a short time. His wolf inside him paced back and forth, its restlessness palpable.

Taking a deep breath, Jeremy tried to suppress his mounting impatience and panic. Time wasn't his ally. With each passing day, Celeste remained in peril, and he couldn't just stand around twiddling his thumbs.

He had naively believed that his knowledge of Celeste's whereabouts, coupled with their powerful mate bond, would lead him straight to her. But reality had other plans, mocking his expectations and dancing out of his grasp like an elusive dream.

Jeremy closed his eyes once again, attempting to tap into Celeste's elusive presence. But their connection seemed to defy his senses, teasing him from every direction. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't pinpoint her whereabouts.

The werewolves around him reeked the smell of concern and worry. Yet, as Jeremy reluctantly opened his eyes, he could only shake his head in defeat, causing a flicker of disappointment to briefly shadow their lupine faces.

Frustration surged within Jeremy as his inner wolf grew increasingly restless. Stripping off his clothes, he took a deep breath, and with a forceful exhale, he beckoned his wolf to burst forth from his very skin.

Without a moment's hesitation, his wolf seized control, swiftly claiming its territory within his body. All four paws hit the ground, grounding Jeremy in a primal reality. Raising its head, the wolf sniffed the air, its senses attuned to the tiniest particles floating around.

In this lupine form, Jeremy could feel a heightened connection to Celeste, a tether between their souls. Yet, this connection remained fragile, akin to a delicate spider's thread swaying in the breeze, perpetually on the verge of snapping.

Jeremy strained to find Celeste's elusive location through this tenuous bond, but he couldn't shake the sensation of an impenetrable barrier, as if a solid wall had abruptly materialized, separating Celeste from him completely. Her whereabouts remained an enigma, tauntingly concealed from his grasp.

Restlessly, the wolf paced back and forth, its powerful paws stirring up a whirlwind of dust. Yet, no matter how fiercely it moved, Celeste's ethereal presence eluded its heightened senses, like a playful ghost dancing just beyond reach.

Suddenly, the wolf's gaze met the unwavering eyes of Raymond, the hunter. A surge of fury and impatience surged through his primal being. Was the fucking hunter silently mocking them? Had Raymond deceived them again?

In an instant, like a bolt of lightning, the wolf launched himself, hurtling toward Raymond with a primal ferocity. He brought him crashing down, their bodies entwined in a wild tangle. Razor-sharp teeth hovered perilously close to Raymond's vulnerable neck, emanating a low, menacing growl that reverberated through the air.

Caught off guard, Raymond lay frozen on the ground, his body rendered immobile by a mix of fear and shock. His eyes locked onto Jeremy's intense gaze, lips quivering ever so slightly, but not a single sound escaped his trembling mouth. The tense silence echoed, pregnant with unspoken questions and unsought answers.

"Easy, pal. While I don't mind ripping this hunter to shreds, it won't do us any good," Kent's voice whispered into Jeremy's ear.

Jeremy's wolf throat let out a low, menacing growl, but he begrudgingly moved his feet away from Raymond's chest. Raymond let out a muffled grunt in response.

Although Jeremy had transformed into a wolf, he still couldn't catch a whiff of Celeste's scent. They were left with no choice but to tap into their werewolf advantage and rely on their good ol' instincts, sniffing the air for any trace of those godforsaken hunters.

Thankfully, the town wasn't exactly sprawling. With their numbers, they should be able to spot those damn hunters in no time, amidst the bustling crowd.

Jeremy ground his wolfish teeth, ready to shift back into his human form. But as his fur receded, making way for human skin to reclaim his body, a sudden jolt struck his heart, like a lightning bolt out of the blue.

He returned to his human self, but his limbs felt utterly feeble, causing him to crumple on the ground, unable to stand in an instant. It was as if a momentary vacuum had sucked away all his strength, leaving him limp and powerless. Gasping for air, he desperately tried to recover from this unexpected surge of sensation.

Yet, what left him dumbfounded was how swiftly that strange feeling vanished as if it were a mere figment of his imagination.

Jeremy furrowed his brow and hastily slipped his clothes back on. He couldn't quite fathom the nature of that peculiar sensation. Nevertheless, his inner wolf seemed to be in a frenzy, scratching at the walls of his soul with unease.

Then, a sudden pallor washed over Jeremy's face, as the realization dawned upon him. That sensation hadn't originated within him. Rather, it was indirectly channeled through the bond he shared with Celeste.

His heartbeat quickened once again. What had those bastards done to Celeste? What devilry were those fuckers inflicting upon his Celeste?!
