Unwanted Mate

Chapter 153

Ch. 153 / 165 Jun 23, 2025

Celeste's gaze fell upon the pristine white lab coat in front of her, and at that moment, her heart began an erratic dance within her chest. Deep within her, her wolf seemed to stir, startled by this unexpected visitor.

She couldn't fathom why her wolf reacted this way. Perhaps it was simply the fear of the unknown, a fear of what these hunters might have in store for her. Her eyes traveled upward, briefly skipping over the clinical coat, until they landed upon a pair of broad shoulders.

Further up, she noticed a collar adorning the man's neck, capturing her attention. In the dimly lit room, the collar gleamed, made of supple leather, adorned with circular metal accents. Were they silver? Celeste pondered, her brow slightly furrowing.

Her gaze continued its ascent, and she beheld a meticulously sculpted jawline, plump and inviting lips, a perfectly straight nose, and a pair of eyes fixated on her. Those eyes that mirrored her own vivid blue irises.

Celeste felt an inexplicable pull as if she had been bewitched. She couldn't tear her gaze away from those eyes, and then it struck her. They were not only the same shade of blue as hers but also shared a strikingly similar shape, as though she were staring into a looking glass.

In a futile attempt to regain composure, Celeste blinked, but those mesmerizing eyes remained unyielding, locked onto her. They seemed to hold a secret, contemplating her every move.

"Who... who are you?" Celeste's voice quivered, her eyes refusing to break contact with the man.

It was then that Celeste's realization deepened. Not only did the man possess captivating eyes, but his face also stirred a peculiar sense of familiarity, as if they had crossed paths in some hidden realm. Yet, as Celeste delved into the depths of her memory, she found no trace of this mysterious man.

She creased her already furrowed brow, perplexed. If she had encountered him before, surely it would have left an indelible mark. Did the hunters do anything to her memory during her unconsciousness?

"Kevin..." the man uttered softly, his eyes fixed intently upon Celeste.

"Kevin," Celeste repeated, her voice tinged with something she couldn't even recognize. The name felt so foreign on her tongue, and she was certain she had never crossed paths with any Kevin before. But something about him felt strangely familiar, like an echo from a distant memory.

As Kevin took a step forward, he loomed above Celeste, casting an intimidating shadow. His eyes scanned her as if analyzing the subtle shifts in the surrounding light. It was in that fleeting moment, as their gazes met, that Celeste's mind pieced together the puzzle. Kevin wasn't just an ordinary human; he was a creature of the night, a werewolf.

The realization sent a jolt through Celeste's senses. How could a werewolf and a hunter stand side by side? It defied all logic.

She blinked rapidly, her eyes wide with incredulity, and inhaled deeply. The scent that wafted from Kevin confirmed her suspicions–a distinct musk, an untamed essence that belonged to the world of beasts. But there was a contradiction she couldn't ignore.

Celeste's gaze roamed over Kevin's form, searching for any telltale signs of restraint or transformation. Yet, to her surprise, he appeared unbound, free from any visible shackles or markings. It left her bewildered and intrigued.

And then, as if a curtain had been lifted, she noticed the figures standing behind Kevin. Without needing her sense of smell, she could discern their humanity. But they were no ordinary humans. They were hunters.

Their eyes locked onto Celeste, their predatory focus unsettling her to the core. It felt as though she had unwittingly become the hunted, trapped in a confined space, locked to the wall, stripped of her freedom.

The room grew heavy with tension, as if the air itself held its breath, waiting for the next move in this supernatural dance. Celeste's heart raced, and she couldn't shake the feeling that she had stumbled into a twisted and perilous game, where the boundaries between predator and prey blurred into a murky haze of uncertainty.

Amongst this group of hunters, Celeste couldn't help but notice one particular young human with a head full of raven-black hair. There was an air of uniqueness about him, as if he danced to a different beat. Leaning slightly forward, his body seemed to gravitate towards Kevin with a relaxed, carefree stance. In stark contrast, the other two hunters, while seemingly composed, betrayed their inner tension through their subtly taut muscles.

What were they so nervous about? Was it because of Celeste, rendered motionless by the chains that bound her, or was it the unrestrained werewolf standing before them?

But wait, was he truly unbound? Celeste's gaze fixated on Kevin's collar, catching the glimmering reflection of light. The circular metal pieces adorning the collar bore a striking resemblance to the material of Celeste's own shackles.

As if aware of Celeste's penetrating gaze upon his collar, the man raised his hand and delicately brushed his fingers over it. A subtle tremor coursed through him as his fingertips grazed the fluorescent metal, yet he did not withdraw his hand.

Unable to resist, Celeste's eyes darted toward Kevin's piercing blue orbs. How intimately familiar that shade of blue appeared!

Celeste had beheld that same hue in her mother's eyes and even caught glimpses of it in her own reflection. Jeremy, too, possessed eyes of a similar shade, albeit with a deeper allure. For the longest time, it was the presence of this mesmerizing blue that led Celeste to believe she and Jeremy were long-lost twins. But that belief had been shattered by subsequent revelations.

And now, standing right before her, the man boasted that very same blue in his eyes. "You are..."

Celeste's voice trailed off as she held her breath, her heart pounding like a wild drum, her eyes widened with a mix of astonishment and hope. It struck her like a lightning bolt, and disbelief coursed through her veins. "Are you my real twin brother?"
