They walked in silence, Celeste trailing behind Kevin like an obedient pet.
Kevin was a towering figure with broad shoulders. Celeste couldn't help but notice how his back stood tall and rigid, as if he was holding back some hidden strength, yet he never let it show.
The corridor seemed to stretch on forever. Celeste passed through multiple doors, each resembling the one that sealed their own little prison. Curiosity gnawed at her, and she couldn't help but wonder what secrets lay behind those doors.
Were they hiding werewolves, or were those poor souls unfortunate subjects of twisted experiments? The mere thought sent a shiver crawling up Celeste's arm, raising goosebumps on her skin.
As they approached one of the doors, a familiar scent wafted into Celeste's nose. Perhaps her wolf was physically separated from her due to the silvery chain, but her olfactory senses remained keen. Though the scent was subtle, it sneaked its way up her nostrils, tickling her senses with its familiarity.
It was the distinct scent of her parents.
In an instant, Celeste came to a halt, her gaze fixated on the door to her left.
But the hunters paid her no mind and continued their stride, oblivious to Celeste's sudden pause. The chain clutched tightly in Kevin's hand jolted, tugging Celeste forward, threatening to send her tumbling to the ground. She barely managed to maintain her balance.
The two hunters pivoted on their heels, their brows furrowed as they looked back at Celeste with displeased looks on their faces.
"Our parents are in there," Celeste murmured, her eyes locked onto the door concealing her loved ones. The stark white frame obstructed her view completely, yet Celeste's vivid imagination conjured up images of her parents on the other side, just beyond that door.
Kevin's figure stiffened for a split second, as if caught off guard, but he didn't turn around to face Celeste immediately.
"Come on, keep moving!" One of the hunters impatiently prodded them, his voice dripping with annoyance.
Kevin, like a programmed automaton, obediently took a step forward. The chain in his hand pulled taut, dragging Celeste along reluctantly.
A metallic silver collar descended onto Celeste's delicate neck, causing a searing sensation that made her want to scream. But she clenched her teeth and fought back the urge, determined to stay composed. With each step she took, she couldn't help but cast a backward glance at the door, growing smaller and more distant, mentally noting the room number etched into her memory.
Uncertainty gnawed at Celeste's heart. Were her parents safe behind that door? Could they possibly catch a whiff of her scent? She couldn't even fathom whether they knew that Kevin, of all people, was their own flesh and blood.
"Do they have any idea?" Celeste murmured softly, her voice barely audible, as she fixated on Kevin's retreating form. The words hung in the air, incomplete yet pregnant with meaning. True to her intuition, Kevin's shoulder muscles tensed ever so slightly, confirming her suspicions.
But Kevin remained tight-lipped, his feet carrying him forward without pause. The black-haired young man stole a quick glance in Celeste's direction, his mouth pursed in silent contemplation, but no words escaped his lips.
Before long, Celeste found herself standing before a slightly larger, gleaming white metal door.
The black-haired man went forward and deftly manipulated the sophisticated sensor system. With a soft whoosh, the door swung open.
Though the scent of disinfectant wasn't overpowering, it instantly assaulted Celeste's nostrils, leaving an unsettling prickle in the air. She swallowed hard, the lump in her throat betraying her nervousness.
The silver chains coiled tightly, dragging Celeste into the heart of this mysterious lab.
This place was a stark contrast to the cramped cell that had confined her earlier. It was spacious, almost too spacious, and flooded with an overwhelming brightness.
The white walls bounced light like a gigantic prism, enclosing the space like an enormous cage. The temperature inside dipped, sending shivers down Celeste's spine, as if the air itself held a bone-chilling secret. Neatly arranged rows of metal shelves displayed an array of peculiar scientific contraptions, glinting with an icy metallic allure. Buttons, switches, and indicator lights adorned the corners of the lab like mischievous eyes and sharp fangs, exuding an air of wickedness and mischief.
A heavy atmosphere hung in the air, carrying a peculiar scent, a mix of experimental potions and chemical compounds. On the scattered tabletop, test tubes, syringes, and glass vials stood haphazardly, their translucent contents showcasing a mesmerizing range of bizarre colors and forms. Along the walls, shelves overflowed with meticulously sealed files and records, chronicling unimaginable experiments and horrifying research outcomes.
Despite the lab's eerie and oppressive ambiance, it boasted an unnatural cleanliness and brightness that seemed to taunt the malevolence it harbored within.
At the center of the lab, two colossal chairs beckoned attention. Draped in pristine surgical cloths, they were surrounded by an assortment of surgical tools and containers brimming with enigmatic biological specimens.
Kevin's silver chains led Celeste to one of the chairs, as if guiding her toward a peculiar throne.
"Sit down on it," he said, pointing at on of the chairs.
Celeste hesitated briefly, her options dwindling to nothingness, and reluctantly complied. As she settled into the chair, her eyes caught the faint traces of violent experiments etched into the surface, hinting at a tumultuous and cruel past. In the cavernous room, mechanical sounds and hushed electrical crackles intermittently punctuated the silence, sending a delicious shiver down her spine.
No sooner had she nestled into the seat than the sides of the chair sprang to life, extending and molding around her body. The silver chains ensnared her limbs, firmly securing her to the chair, causing a surge of unease to course through her veins. The cold, colorless metal grazed her skin, leaving a faint prickle. The sensation of entrapment gnawed at her, making her squirm uncomfortably.
With a deft motion, Kevin unfastened the chain from Celeste's neck, freeing her from its clutches.
To Celeste's bewilderment, Kevin himself settled into the adjacent chair.
